  1. That's great!! Just keep it up. Yes, that scar tissue is a bear, you gotta keep it broken up.
  2. Same here, it can drop below freezing and they are out with the brine trucks. I can remember back in the day you seldom ever saw a salt truck, only in town, and they wouldn't even plow 'til we got 5 or 6 inches.
  3. Well, last year we actually had a pretty mild winter, the kids didn't even miss any days of school. I've got a cousin that has lived in Midland for the past 25 years or so, and that's what I always ask him, he absolutely loves it up there. I finally got to visit the Midland area in October '08, the company I worked for is H/Q'd in Midland, with facilities over in Hemlock too. Looks like some primo deer territory, and they grow the biggest sugar beets I've ever seen. Maybe sometime I can get up there and do some riding in that "2 week" window!! I'll just say that I paid 28 years of union dues, and I can see both sides of the argument, but I do think the country is leaning the way of "right to work". I think the crappy economy is also contributing that lean.
  4. Eck, I've heard from patients that had both done, and from therapists too that having them both at once is the way to go. It also looks like the rehab is a lot more intense for a knee than it was for my hip, or even my back. I did all my hip P/T at home because of an insurance snafu, back to work in 3 months with nary a problem.
  5. The Envoy is a nice ride, I looked at one before I bought my Equinox. It could very well be a faulty ground to the window switch, I had a '96 Blazer that had the same problem and that's what was finally found with it. My mechanic told me that the ground for the drivers side "main" switch also grounds the other switches, which makes sense. Just don't let the dealer stall you out of your 30 days, rattle everybody's cage at that dealership if you have to!! Good luck.
  6. My question is, what do you Michi-ganders do with that 2 weeks of Summer you guys get??? (just tryin' to lighten the mood!!)
  7. Once you get that "seat of the pants" feel then you will love this bike. The only problem I have with them is that they ARE a handfull in a tight parking lot, but when you let 'em out to run,,,,,,, OH MY!! You don't have to be too mechanically inclined for the manual to make sense. If you "feel" something that you think might not be quite right, then use it as a reference to find out how that particular area works, I think you'll be surprised how easy that is. If you use an independent shop it also helps to have one on hand for them. Looks like you're only about an hour from my son over in Clermont, we're planning on coming down sometime after the first of the year to visit them, maybe we can meet up and see how you're adjusting to the new ride. Be safe,,,,
  8. If you plan on doing most of your own work, then download a service manual and get acquainted with it. Most everything else you'll need can be found here, just ask. Congrats on the "new" ride!!
  9. Good luck with the knee. I had my left hip done 6 yrs ago after dragging it along for about 4 years, it is a huge relief to finally get rid of the hurt. We'll be thinking good thoughts for you.
  10. Yeah Dennis, health insurance is a BIG deal when considering retirement. I figured when I retired if I could pick up a job that would cover the monthly cost of my health insurance then I'd be that much ahead. I started about 6 weeks ago with a local-based tanning business, and I love it. Like Larry said, it's finding that little "niche" that gets you a few $$'s, and makes you happy. Good luck!!
  11. I saw a kid on a crotch rocket just about bite it Wednesday morning. I was just south of Louisville where I-65 goes to 5 lanes. He was coming up in the far right lane, then I guess he thought he saw a quick way to get around the traffic so he starts shooting diagonally across the 3 middle lanes, headed for the far left when a pickup cut him off, and here we all are, running between 75-80. He actually locked the rear tire for just a second, and I thought, oh boy, here it comes, but he managed to hold on to it and get out ahead of the mess. He probably didn't even have time to "pucker", but I sure did!
  12. Yeah, it bit me too!! Working fine now, got the Mic-Mute figured out too, which I can see being a very handy item, but I'm still getting sound out of the rear speakers. I don't remember my other Venture doing that, but we didn't use BOTH headsets but just a few times. Now, the story behind these,,,,,. I stopped by my dealer, Louisville Yamaha, after work Friday afternoon just to shoot the breeze with him. I tell him I've bought another Venture, (he bought my '04 last year), and after I tell him the story behind all that he starts digging around and comes out with these headsets. He hands them to me and tells me "MERRY CHRISTMAS", and for my wife to hurry and get healed up so she can ride with me. He said they were in the trunk of a Venture he traded for a few months back, and he knew that when he saw me that if I didn't need them that I'd know someone who did. He said he appreciated my loyalty and friendship, and the business I've sent his way. I just about fell off my stool, 'cause this is just so out of place for this guy. Anyway, these are a little different than the others I had, these have the mic boom molded into the clamp that mounts them and the mic/boom is WAY bigger. Also, the speaker wiring is heavier, with no connections at the speakers, so I'm guessing these are a "newer" version? Thanks for helpin' out an old dog.
  13. I came into a set of JM headsets today and have a question. When I plug them in and switch them on the front works fine, but the rear h/s does not work and there is still sound coming from the REAR speakers, but at the same volume as the front headset. There is a mic mute installed, and the p.o. did have all the audio stuff apart when he changed out the original trunk that was cracked. I've tried everything that I can remember from my other Venture and nothing works or changes. Both headsets work in the front too, so I know they are both good. HELP!!
  14. It is a good looking bike, as I think all the Star's are. The BIG thing, to me, is the small fairing, not much if any more protection than a windshield, and if I'm going to sit behind a fairing I want tunes, AND true cruise. But hey, the whole bagger thing IS in right now. The spec's say the 1300 is a single-pin crank, but I thought H/D still had the patent on that. I remember when the Roadstar came out there was a whole lot of "grumbling" from the Motor Company about the Japanese building a pushrod motor. Best I remember they sued Yamaha but lost because that patent had expired. I thought they had 2 seperate patents, one on the bottom end and one on the top end, but that's been a long time ago. I'd just like to see F/I, like the V-Max, but so does most everyone else.
  15. Looks good Don!! How many miles you got on it now?? I picked up another set of big 'ol H/D mufflers yesterday to punch out, and now I've gotta get my air cleaner upgrade figured out. Probably going to go with a couple of chrome K&N's. Gotta get ready for those long winter nights in the garage ya know!
  16. Yeah, that's exactly what my tips looked like, started getting a "chalky" look to them after the chrome peeled. They do look good after polishing them out. Does that clear hold up pretty well? After the second set blistered I was so over them, that's when I decided to go with the punched-out H/D touring mufflers. In fact, I just bought another set about an hour ago, they've been drilled but not hole-sawed. Nary a scratch on them, and I picked them up for $40.00!! I really like the looks of the H/D's, they are 4" in dia. and really fill out the space under the bags, and they're just a tad longer too. Now I've gotta do a search on here to find the clamps I used before, I think they were V-Twin, and find the spec's for the muffler brackets.
  17. Trike-wise I also think the 'wing looks better. That Black one that Hannigan has in their current ad campaign is HOT!!!!!! Ditto on the seat "adjustment" too, got that on my list for this winter. I've got a seat guy that does a great job making them fit.
  18. I had a set on my '04 and the tips were crap, they all peel after some time. Bub's warranted the first set and said they had stopped chroming them, just polishing the billet, but apparently they did'nt as the second set did the same thing. They do sound good though, especially with no packing. About the only thing to do if you want to change the style of tips is to get a measurment of the O.D. of the tip where it slips into the muffler body and start checking around for something that will fit. If I remember correctly the muffler body is 3" O.D., which would be about 2-7/8" for the tip to slip into it. Let us know what you find out.
  19. From my meanderings of bikes for sale on the 'net it appears that they usually sell for less in Georgia, don't know why though. The Venture has been the only bike I've found, so far, that fits me just about perfectly, and I've checked the fit on just about every tourer out there.
  20. WAYYYYY ahead of ya Randy, I've been keeping that list most of my life!! Oh,,, by the way,,,
  21. If his public profile is correct it's an '08 Venture. Just trying to help.

  23. Yeah, they say that beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder! I fell in love with the Venture back in '05, then finally scratched together enough pennies to buy my first one, an '04 Midnight, in '06. Due to some things out of my control I sold it last year and bought an '03 Roadstar. I REALLY liked that 'ol bike, low, fast, and LOUD! But, they also say that you never get over your first love, so that's why I got another Venture a few months back. BUT, to get to my main point, and I'm not meaning to hi-jack this thread. Hummingbird, I understand the raked triple tree with a trike setup, but has anyone put a raked tree on a stock Venture? Stock rake is 29deg, but I'm thinking it would handle much better to get it out to around 32deg, similar to the Roadstar rake, and get rid of the wobbles. I don't think that 3deg more would significantly alter the handling. Just another of my many "inquiring mind" things.
  24. I've got a Wild Thing that my Dad had, and the best thing I've found to ease the starting issue is a Champion EZ Start plug. Also be sure not to mix your fuel too "heavy", Dad always had a habit of doing that. You could get away with it back in the day, but not with the crappy gas we have now. Another thing to check is to be sure that mud daubers haven't filled up the mufflers or any other opening while your stuff isn't being used. I dug out a dust pan full of dried mud from my Mom's leaf blower, and it had only sat for one season.
  25. I think that's the best sounding 'wing I've ever heard, kinda maybe got a little "Porsche" sound going on.
