They're talking another "chance" for us for tomorrow night/Tuesday, maybe 3" total. We just had a good dusting by yesterday morning here, but man, it's COLD now. Mid 30 hi's/lows in the teens for the next week, I'm gonna have to keep a fire going in the garage for the Venture!! I did see a guy on a bike in Bardstown on Friday just as the sleet was beginning. I laughed and asked him if he had snow chains for it, and he said, "nope, I'm takin' my a$& to the house". Hopefully it won't be too bad this week, I've got a lot of tanning bed lamps to change this week, and a lot of road time. I love my new job!!

Amen Brother!! I've got one, an old Tom-Tom, and I've used it about 3 or 4 times since my wife bought it for me a few years ago, but just not on the bike. The guy I bought the bike from had a really nice Garmin mounted on it, all wired up for power and aux for the audio, which worked out fine for my mp-3. Heck, I really don't even like using the headsets, but the boss says we're gonna use 'em!

Hey Stroker, I just don't get the whole gps/bike thing. I've always lived by the old adage, "you're never lost on a motorcycle"!!

Yeah, she looks like she's ready for this trip to end and another to begin. Congrats on the new grandbaby, and spoil her every chance you get.

Haven't saw elk there, but I've seen them every time I've been on 441 between the Sugarlands and the Foothills Pkwy. My son and I, along with several cars, had stopped about 3 years ago to watch a couple of bulls with several cows in a pasture. Apparently the bulls didn't like an audience and started charging at us on-lookers. One other time the creek at the Sugarlands turn-off was full of elk splashing around on a hot day. There probably are a lot of people that make the Cades Cove loop that have never saw a deer up close, and you can get CLOSE to them there. A few years ago on a convertible trip we came up on traffic jam on the way back out. Apparently a bear with 2 cubs had crossed the road and people started bailing out to take pictures. The bears ran up a tree in the middle of a small field and were completely surrounded by tourists. Needless to say the park rangers frowned upon that.

That's about where I've been with two different ones, an '04 and now a '99. I have gotten as high as the mid 40's mpg, but not many times. I know everything is "right" on this one too, about 2k miles on carb rebuilds/tuning, new plugs, valve adjustments, all by the PO. I know some folks really keep an eye on fuel mileage, but I don't as much anymore, I just like to let it run!! How many miles on your '99?? Mines at 29k and just getting broken in.

Wow Randy, you're making me "homesick" for some mountains. The wife and I love riding that area, either on the bike or on 4 wheels. Yes, that traffic from Seveirville to the Forge is killer most of the time, widening the road just added more cars I guess. There's another pretty neat ride down there to do on a bike, the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail in Gatlinburg. Coming in from Pigeon Forge, I think it's the 3rd light, take a left, go up the hill, then bear off to the right. It makes a one-way loop up over the mountain and comes back into 321 on the east side of Gatlinburg. You can also go farther east on 321 to Cosby, take a right on 32 and cross the Appalachian Trail, then over the mountain to either Waterville or Maggie Valley. The only bad thing about that ride is that it's gravel on the N.C. side, but the ride up 32 to the Trail rivals the Tail of the Dragon. I sent Freebird that way a few years back, and he loved it. There used to be a little country store at Waterville called Mountain Mama's that catered to hikers and horse riders, but it's closed down now. It was like a step back about 40 years, with several old cars and trucks sitting around. If you ordered a bologna sandwich they sliced it off the roll with a butcher knife, now that brought back memories.

After YEARS of chasing my tools all over the place I've finally got mine in my big roll-around box. I've only got 4 of the 8 drawers organized so far, but all my regularly used tools are in it, with my drills, saws, stuff-too-big-for-the-box in an old locker I brought home when I retired. I even put together a small tool bag for use in the house so I don't have to go to the garage every time I need something. -
We missed this one today, just a dusting on the grass. Sounds like we've got a better chance of accumulation Friday night/Saturday. Good weekend to build a fire and tinker in the garage. Going Friday afternoon after work to pick up my "extra" trunk from the p.o., see what kind of trouble I can get into with it.

From the looks of some of these posts, I'm guessing that gee-tars are like bikes,,,,,,,,,,,never done "upgrading", huh??!! I've always wanted to learn the guitar, but never tried it, my wife did buy me a banjo for our 2nd Christmas(1978), but my fingers just never got the message. Santa was pretty good to me too I guess, got a new bike jack, the old one was bleeding by just enough that it wouldn't lift the Venture, so my son got it. Got a half-gallon of some primo moonshine too, and that'll help pass the time down in the garage while I'm doing the HD muffler swap and a few other things. BTW, I don't think I've ever seen anybody mention white whiskey. Surely I'm not the only redneck here,,,, am I??

I bought one from H/F, used it to paint a front bumper for my son's Kia Sportage earlier this year. I only got 1 small "sag", and that was because I got too close, but it wet-sanded out. I like the HVLP's over the old-styles. I saw a program on Speed last weekend that said water-based automotive paint is becoming the hot thing now, no v.o.c.'s or nasties to breathe.

I've dug around thru old posts a little, but haven't found anything. No Squidley, I'm thinking in each side of the trunk, just behind the armrests that the stock rear speakers mount in, and below the trunk lid. I found some marine-grade speakers when I was looking at putting a fairing on the Roadstar. I'd cover the speakers inside the trunk to prevent any damage since I've now got a non-stop supply of 3/8" clear acrylic from the tanning beds I repair. I got this trunk for $00.00, he bought a new one, then had the cracked bottom in the old one repaired, so I'm not going to be out anything there. I may take it to my upholstery guy for some ideas too, he does a lot of custom boat interiors. Hey, it's just the rambling musings of a crazy 'ol biker.

My In-laws built a new house back in '86 and my Mother-in-law saved every scrap piece of 2x4 she could find and wrapped them for my 2 boys for Christmas. Man, they built just about everything they could think of. They did get a few mashed fingers, but they healed, and they learned how to use a hammer. It's amazing how we get caught up in the "newest and best", but it's the simple things that usually win out.

I got an extra trunk for my '99 from the p.o. and I've got a question. Has anyone though of, or attempted to put speakers in the lower sides of the trunk? I've been trying to come up with a way to get some bigger speakers with a little more umph without putting them in the saddlebag lids, I'm thinking just behind the armrests. Haven't done any exact measurements yet, but I think I might be able to get a 6 1/4" in there. My Chevy Equinox has 6 1/4's w/seperate tweeters and I think that setup would give me about what I'm looking for, no window breaking bass, but just a little more thump. I'd probably lose about 4" on each side inside the trunk, but better there than in the bags. Been spending too much time at night thumbing thru Baggers Magazine I guess.

Well, I thought the same thing too djh, but a friend of mine had a Tour Deluxe, and when I rode it there was a definite difference. He had lowered it and did the Progressive fork springs, but they did not ride the same. The T/D actually "felt" more like the Roadstar I had. Evidently the extra weight of the Venture was what made the difference.

Hope everyone is healthy, happy, and get all the chrome they wished for.

There are laws against price gouging, but here in the great state of Ky. our Attorney General says his office has investigated ALL the "tips" they have received. They actually did find that Marathon/Speedway gouged customers on ONE day last year. They settled the charges with a $0.06/gal refund for about an 8 hour window. The AG ran for office again and after the election it was found that there were several owners of fuel distribution that contributed to his campaign,,,, all legal donations though. Like the saying goes, "a poor man ain't got a chance"! They all know we're going to buy their gas, yeah, we may cut back some here and there but we still buy it. The job I have now has me using my personal vehicle and I'm reimbursed at $.40/mi. If I use my truck, which sometimes I have to, then that doesn't leave much meat on the bone for "upkeep" if it's much above $3.00/gal.

I got it Wednesday afternoon in Elizabethtown for $2.94, that was w/.03 cents off at the Sam's Club, stopped again there yesterday and it was $2.97 and the attendant said his boss was out "checking the other prices", and that usually means a price increase. There's a cluster of about 6 stations right around the Towne Mall area on 31-W and they kinda "rule" the local market prices. Went back out to Wally-World last night and saw that they were all at $3.26, they all react to each other, with the Speedway station usually leading the way. Back during the stupid times I've seen them change prices as much as 4 times in a day. Just down I-65 in Glendale and Sonora it's usually always 12-15 cents less than here in town. I saw an article in the newspaper last night that crude was up because of a drop in the U.S surplus, and because of a stronger German economy(??), and here I thought it went up just because the sun came up yesterday morning, SILLY ME!!

2007 Yamaha Royal Star Midnight Venture
Wrench replied to Robby's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
When you have a dealer run the VIN it will also show if there was any recall work completed or still outstanding on it too. Be sure to check. -
Thanks for sharing Beer, tucked that one into the 'ol favorites.

They do look good, especially on a Midnight with all that other chrome. I had a lot of problems with the passenger board rubber strips coming loose too, and the chrome had started peeling between the strips.

I can remember back in the days of 3 channels of black & white TV that they NEVER freaked out about snow in the forecast. We had 5 miles of gravel road with plenty of hills for the school bus to negotiate, and there was a big steel box under the back seat that the tire chains were kept in. If we got caught out and needed them on then it was the older boys job to help the driver put them on, and then if it was still too bad to get us all the way home then we'd walk the last mile or so. About the only thing that kept us out of school back then was ice storms. Can you even begin to think what would happen if kids were asked to do that now?? Lawsuit city!! But I guess we all want it better for our kids and grandkids than we had it. Oh, BTW, that Ural looks like an absolute blast in the snow!!

The Star Accy's billet f'boards are sweeet, but they ARE pricey, $279 front, $239 rear. I'm probably just going to polish out mine this winter, along with the fork legs. I did that to my old Roadie and it all turned out pretty good, just a LOT of elbow grease. Santa's supposed to be bringing me a new jack, so that'll make it much easier to do the fork. Has anybody thought about, or attempted to polish out the wheels? That's been on my mind when it comes time for tires, but I'm thinking that may be a job for somebody else.

No measurable snow here yet, had a few flakes fall about a week ago. Had a few minutes of pea-sized hail here yesterday afternoon, ping-pong ball sized up closer to Louisville. The weather "experts" are saying we could get a dusting next week,,,,, maybe. December is almost in the books, January and February usually go by pretty quick, guess I'd better sharpen the blades on the mower. I did notice some grass seed I sowed back in October is growing, finally.
