Helpful Hints Requested for two RSV issues
grubsie replied to BlueSky's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Ditto on Dion's Ignition bypass relay. Plug and play. Super easy to install. 1st thing I recommend that anyone should do on RSV's and RSTD's. Ditto on cleaning out the stuff you put in the switch and using graphite instead. I use NAPA Lock-Ease. One can will last you a lifetime for all your vehicles. -
light bar block adapter
grubsie replied to mike042's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have one. Bought it for my bike but it doesn't work if you have a headlight visor like I have. You still have to remove the light bar with the visor. PM me if you are interested in it. -
1999 Yamaha Royal Star venture running rough
grubsie replied to FAAQ2's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sounds like a vacuum leak to me. When you get it running at idle without the choke on (pulled out), spray wd40 around all 4 rubber intake manifolds from the carbs to the engine. If the idle changes at all, there is an air leak somewhere. Simple test and well worth a try. -
Was at a motorcycle show today at a local town fair and couldn't resist taking these pics for you guys. I will leave the commenting to to you. There's a Coca Cola Bottle opener on the tip of the front fender if you look close enough.

Drilling Stock Mufflers
grubsie replied to Whitlow's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Ask around about local "HD Indy's" ( Independent HD repair shops). I can put my finger on 4 of them within 20 minutes max from me in my rural town in NH. Don't waste your time with a HD Dealer. I get HD take-off mufflers whenever I want for $0.00 from these Indy's since they have to dispose of them anyway. They are just glad to get them out of their shops. Craigslist and Facebook are other alternative sources. -
On my 4th RSV now and last night was the deciding factor that I have finally had it with the piss poor front brakes after a sweet "innocent" teenage girl decided to pull out in front of my wife and I at the last second. I managed to avoid slamming in to her somehow but I would have been able to stop sooner with more control with good front brakes. I just bled all brakes and clutch this past spring too. RSV stock front brakes just suck, period. Anyway, I read here that some guys have gone to Yamaha's R1 or R6 calipers and the braking is like night and day compared to stock RSV calipers. That being said, I read on a Rick Butler post that direct bolt-ons to the RSV are R6 - 2004 and earlier, and the R1 - 2003 or earlier. Is this information correct? I want buy a set off ebay today or over the weekend. Thanks

Both the 1st and 2nd gens are 6 speed if you count neutral as a speed.

One of the riders made a video of the ride. Sarah did a beautiful job on it. It starts from their staging area, then on to the Broken Spoke meet up in Laconia, NH then on to Randolph,NH to the crash site. It's not the whole ride, but enough to get a good taste. I can't watch it anymore. It's too powerful and brings back way too much for me this soon. I have cried enough already. It's only on facebook for now. sarah, the girl that produced the video is going to post it on Youtube tomorrow. I will post that link when I know. https://www.facebook.com/sarah.johns...8601474/?t=506

It was absolutely amazing to say the least. Over 3000 bikes, All the support from the crowds roadside and on the over passes, veterans saluting, Firetrucks hanging big USA flags from their ladders along the route, Firemen, EMT's and Police holding their hand over their hearts were just some of the things that had me on an emotional roller coaster, damn near had me in tears the whole ride. Fortunately the weather held up for the ride to the final destination. Then just before the memorial service, the clouds opened up and it poured and poured right through the service and on for about an hour after on the ride home. Don't even care that it rained as I would do it all over again in a heart beat, This ride was setup so that the "Fallen 7" will never be forgotten. This has been, and probably always be, the most emotional, most incredible ride, that I know, I will never forget. It was an honor and and privilege to participate. Condor was right...Addictive.
grubsie replied to Tennessee's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
In the last pic of your original post, I can see that the Baron's lowering kit is installed. The brake caliper normally sits on the top side of the swingarm over the the top front part of the caliper. Your caliper is located on the underside of the swingarm over the bottom front part of the caliper via the Baron's bracket. That means it also has the Baron's dogbones on the shock. If you want to raise the bike back to stock height, you need the stock dogbones. You can leave everything else just the way that it is, unless you want to spend needless money and time bringing everything back to stock. -
A memorial ride is scheduled for Saturday July 6 for the "Fallen 7". The ride will be led by the NH State Police. https://www.facebook.com/events/844206675965768/

I second Don on this one. The valve clearances on Briggs engines get too tight over time and cause hard starting. Actually hard turning over of the engine. Some engines have mechanical adjustments and some require grinding, filing or sanding on the retaining clip end of the valve stem to the proper clearances.

Terrific news. A whole month a-fib free. Sounds like the pacer and your heart along with any medication are adjusting nicely. Hopefully things will stay in sync so well that you pretty much forget about having the pacer during your normal daily and nightly activities.

I buy a crap load of stuff from ebay as it's the only place sometimes to find the parts I need for the old motorcycle restorations I do. I haven't really had any problems to speak of and I have been buying for years. In fact, over the years, I have bought merchandise from "qeautoparts1" and never had a problem. I recognized the name as soon as I read it in you post. I haven't bought anything from them recently, probably about a year or so, but have noticed that he/they are selling tons of stuff now. Maybe that's part of the problem you are in. They got too big for their britches and are having a hard time meeting demand. Sorry to hear you are having problems.

Glad I have someone about ten minutes away that changes bike tires, all mounted and balanced at $20.00 each. Bring them the wheels and new tires and they do it while you wait if you want. Takes about 20 minutes or you can drop them off and go back to pick them up.

That would be fantastic Rick. Thank you. If it is any inconvenience I understand. Thank you again.

Hi Bill, Thanks for the reply. I am not looking to put anyone out of their way. This guy has a an exhaust that isn't manufactured any more. I have been searching for one like this for a while. He is an older gentleman that just won't ship. I was hoping that someone nearby could grab it and then ship it to me. I will pay all costs. He is only asking $50.00 for it which is ridiculously cheap. I do not know if you are on Facebook as that's the only way to contact him. Like I said, I don't want you or anyone else to go out of their way as that's not worth it to me. Here's the link to his Facebook ad. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/335839783778953/

About 12 seconds in on the upper left of the video after the ad pulling a trailer. Anyone from here? https://www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-rolling-thunder-return-washington_n_5cead334e4b0512156f3a150?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuaHVmZnBvc3QuY29tLw&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAA3hhJL6pi5bPdei671p5o9itj_oNh-IjN-MPiUsEEwiUJtOLmWxJ3xDU_oIBY-Fqez6i4PRROUgYQHdTZyZn5LCuO9SSTbY9lkBZW31DlIa3wlZs5TZXgk-vf9y946f4FdOWrInIcZuUDXj58g6wuLfMzn467ZqY69MkFMn_UzU

There's a guy with an ad on Facebook for a Roadhouse exhaust system for my Road Star. Been looking for one for a while since they are no longer in production. He won't ship so looking for someone close by. I will gladly compensate for your time and shipping. I know it's a strange request on a RSV forum but I am just putting out feelers anywhere I can.

Yeah, you're probably right. I thought about that after I posted. I bet asking someone or telling someone you want one is also the same thing?

I would love one of these guardian bells, however I know it's bad juju to buy your own. Anyone else interested in one? I could buy yours and you could buy mine.

Holy crap! You are one lucky dude to even be here telling us your story. I hope this ups your game for routine maintenance and inspection from now on.

Hey Pucster, On injection system. That didn't come until the 1968 models so it's premix 20:1. No site glass. You're probably looking at the knobs that bolt the side covers on. the other round hole on the left cover is the key. It only smokes a little when cold. As soon as it warms up there's no more smoke. I have to sya though, documentation is super scarce on these bikes. Thanks for the internet though. I am finding bits and pieces of information all over the web. Now that I have this little jewel up and running and loving the 2 stroke all over again, I have turned my attention to one of the two 1976 Kawasaki KH500 triple 2 strokes that I have been storing for several years. They both need complete engine rebuilds. Fortunately, the one I started working on has a rebuilt crank and re-bored cylinders. Now I am excited more than ever to hear that triple 2 stroke sound again.

I bet good ole' Pucster does. Yeah, I know this is a RSV forum, but being a member here, I like to share about other bikes I get excited about an that's usually older bikes. Especially this one. I have been looking for one for years I owned one when I was an early teenager and loved it This past January it popped up locally on CL and I couldn't resist. I dropped everything I was doing and had it home within an hour after it was listed. It's a 1965 Suzuki K11 Challenger 80cc power house. 4 speed, weighs 154lbs, gets 153mpg and can run at 65-70mph. It was the fastest single cylinder bike in it's day. Super rare nowadays. it's all complete. Don't know if it runs yet., but it is all there. Bought it from a guy whose father owned the bike and passed away 5 years ago. The son doesn't know anything about it. He found it tucked away in his fathers old shop where I picked it up. Haven't decided after i get it running to either fully restore it or just give it a super good cleaning. They are only original once. Finally had a chance to work on this bike 4 months after getting it. Cleaned out the tank and carburetor last week. Nothing like crudded up old, dried 2 stroke gas. Put the tank and carb on Friday night. First off, no spark. A quick pull of the magneto show a frayed wire from the condenser to the points. The way it was placed, it was rubbing against the inside of the spinning magneto. Slipped some shrink tube on it and re-soldered it to the condenser. She's got Spark! Put in some fresh gas and it started in 3 kicks. Ran like crap. Checked the timing. With a fixed stator, the timing is adjusted by the max gap of the points. They were way off. Dialed them in and the bike purred like a kitten. 2 hours in and I have a running old bike. Next checked the lights, horn etc. and nothing worked. The wiring was hacked to to hell. Found a schematic online and figured everything out. Replaced some 6v bulbs and everything works now. That took another 3 hours fixing, patching and replacing wires. (Hate electrical) Anyway, called it a night. Went out to the barn first thing this yesterday and it fired up with one kick. Gave her a good cleaning and slapped a plate from another bike on it and took a short ride around town. Some minor carb adjustments and it's running fantastic. I got her up to 60mph and it could have gone some more but it was little scary on this little 80cc with dry rotted tires. At 60, it felt like I was going 80mph! Should have new tires by the end of this week so I can register it and get it inspected, What a fun little ride for around town. Here's a vid from this morning. Not bad for an old girl that was forgotten and left for dead.
