  1. We're planning to ride the Natchez Trace Parkway on our way back from Florida the end of April. We're going to start in Natchez and ride through to Tupelo and then get off there and head north west to Memphis and from there on home to Tulsa. It was very interesting to read the comments on this thread to know what to expect on the ride. We will look into getting the trace map that was mentioned. Thanks for all the input in this thread.
  2. We had 26 iches of snow in 7 days the beginning of the month. The most snow on record here since they started keeping records. Then the week after it was 75 degrees and it all melted.

    Is there a

I have a few patches of blue sky when I look out the window, but not enough to tell if there is a big bright ball that mimi described.
  4. We aren't riding either today. It went from 70's on Friday and Saturday to having 15+ inches of snow on the ground and it's still snowing for the next several hours.
  5. Thanks for all the birthday wishes this year. Had a nice birthday lunch with Newtruck. Sorry haven't been around - but my life has been crazy this year. I've been working very long hours since May and have been just trying to keep my head above water most days. I am making some work related changes in 2011 and hopefully I'll be busy, but still have time to enjoy life too. In fact we are discussing a two week vacation on the bike to the Florida Keys this spring. Yay! Thanks again for thinking on me on my B-Day!
  6. Yesterday was the first ride in a long time for Phil and myself. Between my crazy work schedule and a white water rafting accident in the Smokey Mountains this summer that messed up Phil's back and left me limping too for a while we haven't been out for a ride either since July. So last week we called Lowell, made our plans and baked a batch of cookies then we headed off to see the old man. He looks great. When we pulled up in front of his house we caught him packing up his saddle bags for the day he's ready to head out and just ride. I suspect that day is coming real soon! We sat and shot the bull with him for a couple of hours on his front porch and when we were ready to head home he road with us to Monett, MO before he headed back to Springfield while we road on to Tulsa. For all those that wanted to hug him - I gave him a hug from everyone. Can't wait for the day when he just stops by the house on his way to somewhere.
  7. We have the 10" asus. We've taken it on several trips with us instead of the full size laptop it really saves a lot of room in the trunk. I'm a mainframe computer programmer and have to be able to log onto work 24 x 7 and this allows me to work any where - when I have to.
  8. Love your pictures, thanks for sharing them. Beautiful countryside.
  9. If you're in the Tulsa, OK area tomorrow there is a motorcycle escort for the Moving Vietnam Memorial Wall starting at TU tomorrow morning and going to Normal, Oklahoma. You can find the information at the Transportation Union Workers website listed below. http://twu514.org/blog/2010/06/16/come-join-the-twu-veterans-committee-and-give-your-support-for-the-salute/
  10. We did the Grand Canyon October 2009. NEWTrk picked up me at the Phoenix airport on his way back from his San Diego ride and we rode up to the Grand Canyon and stayed for a couple of days there before we jumped back on the bike to make it home in time to get to back to work. Fantastic ride - you'll have a great trip, take a run down through Sedona if you have time. I'll post some pictures when I get home tonight. You'll have a great trip! Wish we could join you, but we're already planning our Smokey Mountain vacation this summer.
  11. Thanks for sharing - powerful message
  12. Just high winds and rain around Tulsa. It seemed to go south of here. Keeping our fingers crossed that you hear from you mom soon.
  13. Mini - I am so glad that I am not the only that thinks like this...
  14. Had mine removed almost 27 years ago - one slice of cucumber would set off an attack that would last for days. Getting rid of that thing was one of the best things that ever happened to me... Good luck - you will feel so much better without it.
  15. We use it on the bike. Phil uses velcroe and mounts the PikePass on the dash about the cassette deck. Never had a problem with it there.
  16. James Mitchner Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich always makes me laugh The Last Lecture - made a huge impact me last year and had both my daughter's read it. Exodus by Leon Uris The Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins I read a lot of US history - Civil War and Lincoln have been my favorite time in history, but I find myself braching out to other time periods from there. I currently have Dracula on my night stand to read next.
  17. Glad to hear that you are going to get out of the house. Be careful, but then you will have 3,000 biker all looking out for you while you are at the rally. Kind of hard to get into trouble with that many people watching you....
  18. Tuesday; 8:01 PM Catoosa, Oklahoma, USA
  19. So this is the real reason why NEWTrk started putting the outside (use to be feral) cat in the garage this winter. Preventative maintenance - keeping those poor little rodents out of the fairing... Guess that's planning ahead, and here I thought he was just a softy for a fur coat.
  20. Hey, are you still looking at J&M Heasets? I can tell you that we have used all three of their headsets. When we bought the RSV in 06 we bought their deluxe set they were good, but after a year so so I had a problem with mine - the sound went in and out just wouldn't stay stable, so I replaced it with the entry level $69.00 headset. It worked just fine, but the the sound quality just wasn't there and the mike is HUGE. Last year we replaced the headsets in both helmets with the elite. What amazing quality in sound. My husband, NRETrk06, has some hearing issues and has commented about the quality of sound and is sold on the elite headsets. Then after about a month of usage the same sound issue occured with mine. I contacted J&M directly, they had me return my headset and found that the 'Z' cord from the helmet was bad and replaced it. I have not had a problem with them since. And again the sound quality in the elite is amazing, Last summer when the Gold Wing - WingDing was in Tulsa we went and wandered through the vendors and J&M had a huge display there. I can tell you that we tried on $400+ Aries helmets with the headsets built in and if I could have afforded $800 + dollars right them for new helmets I would have bought a pair of them in a flash. Hope this helps you out in your search for the right headset and the difference. If you have any questions that I can answer - PM me. Rosebud.
  21. We're in Catoosa - just a hop skip and jump from you.
  22. I love that quote - Annie can I borrow it? Mel, congrats on the bike, your health, and the good weather!
  23. 1/2 cup shortening 1/2 cup margarine 3/4 cup brown sugar 1/4 cup honey 1/4 cup splenda 1/4 cup white sugar 2 teaspoons vanilla 1/2 cup egg beaters (or 2 eggs) 1 1/2 cup unbleached flour 3/4 cup whole wheat flour 3/4 cup oatmeal 1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon sea salt chocolate chips, coconut, nuts, toffee bits - etc - to your taste. Blend shortening and margarine together, add all sugars and honey and vanilla. When well blended add eggs and stir until smooth. Add dry ingredients 1 cup at a time until all mixed together. Stir in chocolate chips, nuts, coconut, or any other add ins that you want in in your cookies. Drop on baking sheet and bake until set about 8 - 10 minutes in 350 degree oven. If you want a chocolate version of the cookies add 3 - 4 tablespoons of cocoa to the mixture with the dry ingredients. This cookie stays moist and does not dry out and it's a little healthier if you really want a cookie.
