  1. I did the carb clean myself, all 4 cylinders are firing. Mix screws are at 2&1/2 but it smells rich.
  2. I have an 89 VR I have been trying to get running. I am have trouble getting the carbs synched. I can get them all the same, but only 4-5 inches of vacuum running smooth, but poor throttle response, or one side at 10 inches but zero on the other side, with smooth idle but usually dies with throttle movement. If I nudge the choke just a hair I can get all 4 to 10 inches with good throttle response. If I release that small amount of choke the idle slows and it stalls. Any insights on what to check. BTW good gas, new fuel pump and filter, new plugs, air filter, carbs cleaned and new battery.
  3. Marine speakers just don't sound that good. I have an 86 I cut out the so I could add 5.25 speakers. I was using a Jensen MS30 marine gauge stereo. It put out power about the same as a car head unit. It sounded ok even at highway speeds. I tried a couple of cheap amps and was disappointed. I just added a JVC xc2410 amp with a pair of 5.25 kickers and I am very happy with the quality and volume of the sound. I have always used car speakers as long as they didn't have a paper driver. You will need an amp to power 6x9s. If you are still concerned Hog tunes makes speakers for motorcycles that are water proof. I tried a pair of their 5.25 but liked the kicker sound better.
  4. Is this the wobble I've heard some speak of?
  5. I have recently have suffered a lot of damage to my trunk. What is the feasibility of installing a 2nd Gen trunk on my 86 VR.
  6. I saw 5 or 6 and all but one had a broken right tab. The one I bought looked good but when I got it the right tab was cracked.
  7. While dealing with a broken trunk mount http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?123851-MKII-trunk-mount I came across another issue. A while back some one talked about the retainers that support the trunk when it's open not being even, of course mine were not. The right side had been bearing the load. This led to about a 3 inch crack right along the arm rest. To prevent any further stress on the trunk lid I just disconnected both sides and it rest on the seat when opened. I will not be using them anymore.
  8. Same issue with my 86, ended up changing the compressor assembly. About a year later I removed the system and added schrader valves and bought a portable 12v compressor from Harbor Freight for $9.00 and never looked back. and I can air up my tires if needed.
  9. I found one on ebay that wasn't broken. I think I will have it beefed up at a machine shop. Thanks
  10. I was doing some other things on my 86 and noticed the trunk was loose and rocked back and forth a lot. Upon further inspection I found the 2 forward mounts broken. I removed the trunk and found the back of the trunk was cracked from completely across from the rear 2 mount points. I'm guessing the front issue led to the rear issue. Wife never mentioned it was loose. Check your bike it looks like one side had been repaired before.
  11. I thought the voltage from the stator should be around 100vac?
  12. Any electric shop should be able to rebuild it.
  13. Did you use a micrometer and check the thickness. I just changed mine and if I remember correctly 5mm is minimum thickness. BTW ended up getting one from EBC from ebay.
  14. I ended up replacing the carb of the one that was missing on mine.
  15. I just rebuilt my master and slave cylinders 2 days ago. Do your self a favor and get a vacuum bleeder. It took me longer to read the directions than to bleed the clutch. http://www.harborfreight.com/brake-bleeder-and-vacuum-pump-kit-69328.html This is the one I bought, money well spent.
  16. I went through this and finally bought a new fuel pump and no problems since. Ebay had new ones for 75.00 a few weeks ago but for some reason they are $500.00. I used and aftermarket one, it's not a direct fit but works great.
  17. They are the floats inside the resivoirs.
  18. For sale on ebay, new fuel pumps http://www.ebay.com/itm/ELECTRIC-GAS-FUEL-PUMP-Fits-YAMAHA-XVZ1300D-VENTURE-ROYALE-1300D-1986-1993-/291760653742?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276
  19. I have one. Pay the shipping and it's yours.
  20. There isn't anything keeping the fan from spinning? If not maybe a local electrician can repair yours
  21. Anyone got a good rear rotor they are willing to part with?
  22. While doing the back tire I discovered that my rear rotor was at the minimum 4.5mm. I decided to use the one from my parts bike. I got the rotor off and its smaller and not offset from the tire or slotted. The bikes are the same year. Can I use this rotor or should I find another? I doubt if that rotor is not original, parts bike only had 13k miles on it. Also thinking maybe he swapped wheels with a MKI.
  23. I found the little drain screws. The fluid is awful, black as tar.
  24. I am putting in progressive springs in an 86 and have a question. Where is the drain for the fork oil? Also what's the general feeling on the size on the preload spacers? Thanks
