  1. I started the bike today for a couple of minutes and then shut it off. The left front cylinder was still cold the other 3 were hot. So it looks like this cylinder is not firing, so where do I go from here?
  2. Carbs were removed cleaned and synched a month ago.
  3. The TCI is a new igntech ,that I bought the last group buy. I bought the bike back in November and it hadn't run for a year. It ran well for about 3 weeks after everything was done to get it running. It does it everytime I ride once the bike gets warmed up.
  4. My 86 VR has developed a hesitation from 2k-3k, it bogs down in this range until it gets to 3k then accelerates quickly. I have only had the bike on the road for a little over a month. It has new plugs, wires and TCI and ran excellent until about a week ago. Any ideas?
  5. I was on the Vmax outlaw site and they sell a fan switch that turns the cooling fan sooner. Has anyone tried this on a Venture or will it even work?
  6. Went to Lowes today and got an 18mm deep socket and it fit. Only problem I had I got home and couldn't find a 3/8 universal, just used a short exstension to change the plugs.
  7. Where can I get a spark plug socket for my 86 VR?
  8. If anyone is interested I have a bunch of Windows XP OS disc from Dell that are legitimate and have never been installed.
  9. My r/r is still good, I was just trying upgrade. Thanks though.
  10. You didn't say if you just plugged in your new regulator OR did you connect each wire to it's mate? If you used the plugs, inspect them and verify that it's wired the same as your original, with the exception of the brown wire not present. If you plugged it in and the wires are in their correct positions, it sounds like you have a shorted (bad) regulator. The regulator I bought already had connectors and plugged right in. I tried it on my parts bike an 89 that doesn't use the brown wire and had the same results. BTW the fuse blows as soon as the r/r is connected and you can hear it. I think the regulator is bad.
  11. I just purchased an r/r off of ebay. The r/r I received has only 7 wires total but the bike 8 and connecting it without the brown wire blows the main fuse. What do I have to do to use the r/r?
  12. My 86 is a sport tourer.
  13. Had you considered making and selling the side wings to members? If you did I'd take a set.
  14. I bought a car road side emergency kit that a collapsible gas can. You might want to look into one of those.
  15. The two 84's I had were both brand new and the 86 I have appears to have the stock setup in the rear. I haven't ridden in about 10 years so it could just be that or me getting older, but it does feel top heavy at low speed.
  16. My first 2 ventures were 1984's bought new and now I ride an 86 VR. When I bought the 86 the guy said he had ridden an 84 prior and it rode different, I thought nothing of it. After riding the 86 I see what he meant. High speed handling is fine, but low speed is a different story. It feels to me that the 86 sits higher at least in the rear than my 84's did which were more of a reclined position. Is this my imagination or is there a difference in the ride height between them?
  17. Since the issue of ride height I have a question. My first 2 ventures were 1984's bought new and now I ride an 86 VR. When I bought the bike the guy said he had ridden an 84 prior and it rode different, I thought nothing of it. After riding the 86 I see what he meant. 18. I just received this mp3 player form ebay and it works great. It has an FM modulator and plays usb, mmc and sd media plus an aux input. This is a great way to add mp3 capability and keep your current system and for $3.03 you can't lose. It does come from China but I got mine in 10 days. http://www.ebay.com/itm/160732982297?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
  19. Going on at the next tire change.
  20. Has anyone used this setup before if you are do you have the manual for it? It does have an air valve on it. The spring says "progressive suspension 1154 800/900" can't read the writing on the shock:confused:
  21. Here is one on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/1984-YAMAHA-1200-VENTURE-ZXV1200-IGNITOR-IGNITION-UNIT-/281051144446?hash=item416ff420fe&item=281051144446&pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr:thumbsup2:
  22. I just bought this from ebay. Is anyone familiar with it? I think it is from progressive suspension, but doesn't look like anything on their site. 23. I just got back to a 1st gen and wondered the same thing so I bought a parts bike for $500 and it actually turned out to be a better bike overall than the one I was going to ride.
  24. Got it running today. I used a syringe pumped carb cleaner thru the fuel line to the carbs and let it sit over night. It starts and runs with choke. I will have the carbs cleaned and synched tomorrow, should be ready for the road this weekend. Not a bad deal for a bike I originally bought for a parts bike.
