  1. Is the starter from a 91 Vmax a 4 brush?
  2. I contacted them earlier about how this setup performed, this is his reply. Dear mralex714, "Hi there, best thing you get is gas mileage and easy, really easy maintance, and inexpensive parts. Bike will perform as good as with the 4 carbs and you will get same top speed. But you gonna loose the torkiness and fast response in the lower speed taht the 4 carbs give you. Please let me know if you have more questions. JUAN - juan.fernandez"
  3. There were no hose on the carbs before, I just put them on from a spare set of carbs. If I remove the drain screw I get flow thru it.
  4. Item A is the drain screw. Don't know what else to show you. http://www.bergall.org/temp/venture/1stcarbs3.jpg
  5. Do the drain screws just cover a hole in the bottom of the bowl? I ask because I have tried to force air thru it with a syringe and meet with total resistance. The carbs will be removed but I was wondering if that much crud could have solidified in the hole since January.
  6. I'm sure, the screws on the bottom right of the carbs
  7. The carbs were cleaned in January by a shop.
  8. After opening the drain screws for the carbs no fuel come out of any of them. All 4 cylinders are firing so I know there is fuel in them. I believe I have something in them causing to overflow intermittently. Any ideas how to get them to drain?
  9. Where is that connector located?
  10. I did get it to start yesterday. It ran rough and I had to keep the throttle open. If i used the choke it would stall. I was going to adjust the idle screw to keep it running but it wouldn't restart, so I trailered it home. Today I changed all 4 plugs they were fouled, but it still wouldn't start. I am checking connectors and coils for water. Anyone have any other ideas?
  11. It had a fire a few weeks ago. I thought I got most of it off right after it happened, but that stuff is everywhere. I fixed a couple of burned wires and was up and running and wanted to put some high pressure in the area because it causes corrosion.
  12. It's not the cutoff switch, also I tried 2 other TCI's.
  13. I took my bike to a car wash to get fire extinguisher agent off. That stuff causes corrosion pretty quick. But anyway after rinsing off the engine I tried to start it with no luck. It cranks and is getting fuel. I tried some starting fluid and still no start. I let things dry out for a few hours and still no start. Any suggestions?
  14. Should there be 12v on it with the key off? Because there is on mine.
  15. I got my bike from the shop yesterday. The insurance company paid me to repair it rather than total it out (I ended up with a few dollars less, but don't have deal with salvage or reconstructed title by not buying back from the insurance company). I decided to wait on the repairs (have another bike) and had the bike towed home. I really hadn't looked at it before going to the shop but I did today and after peeling back melted tape from the wiring harness I found very little actual damage to wiring.. I think I will just replace the few that look questionable and go from there. BTW the shop quoted 14 hours labor for the harness, ouch.
  16. I called the insurance company again and let them know I did not want to part with the bike. Now they want a shop to look at it to get an estimate on repairs. It will be going to my regular mechanic on Monday.
  17. I have an after market Pioneer head unit. I did try it and didn't get any noise.
  18. After my fire my fuel pump has slow tapping sound while the bike is running. I never noticed this before and it is fairly loud. Do I have a problem or did I just never notice:confused24: the sound before?
  19. I don't have the OEM audio system, so do I need this? Mine got melted pretty bad during the fire.
  20. Behind the back cylinders is mounted a small cylinder shaped object with a 2 wire connector, I believe its called a condenser. I looked on the 89 I have and it doesn't have one. Does anyone know what this thing does? It looks like this ebay item. http://www.ebay.com/itm/86-YAMAHA-XVZ13-XVZ1300-VENTURE-ELECTRICAL-COMPONENT-38-/330967048723?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4d0f2c6213&vxp=mtr
  21. I spoke with an insurance adjuster today and without seeing the bike they want to total it.
  22. This has been destroyed on my bike. Does anyone know what this is or what it does? http://www.ebay.com/itm/86-YAMAHA-XVZ13-XVZ1300-VENTURE-ELECTRICAL-COMPONENT-38-/330967048723?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4d0f2c6213&vxp=mtr
  23. how much work involved with changing the harness? I opened the bowl drains on 1 & 2 carbs and got no fuel from either.
