  1. Looks similar to BMW's concept bike, just without the jugs. http://bmwmotorcycles.com/gen/publisherimages/homepage/teaser_photo/shahram_bcc.jpg See more here.
  2. +1 on Roadrunner. Definitely a quality publication.
  3. There are quite a few threads on here about highway pegs. If you do a search, I'm sure you'll pull some up. On mine, I simply had some clamp-on ones from either Dennis Kirk or JC Whitney, but I don't recall the tube diameter. I'm sure someone will chime in on that. My dad owned a 1980 CB900 Custom... it was good bike.
  4. That's what I heard as well... supposedly during takeoff. At least that's what CNN's little scroller was saying. Would make sense why the plane didn't make it far if it was during takeoff. One of the passengers they interviewed said they all heard a loud bang, and then the smell of smoke. I can only assume they got sucked into an intake or something.
  5. Pretty much the same story here. My car read -7 this morning, and I think it's only a degree or two above 0 now.
  6. I've been on a ferry twice, both in the same day. One was in Kampsville, IL, and the other a little further south near Pere Marquette state park. Neither one was too bad, as the ferries were both pretty level to the road. I've had people tell of bad experiences, due to water on the ramps and the actual ferries, but we were there in good weather. That's the only way I could see water getting on the ones we road, the sit quite a ways out of the water, and it's not like they're hauling @#$ across there.
  7. CNN.com also has a live feed (posted above) and one of the passengers was just interviewed and said he's pretty sure all aboard the plane are safely off.

    Knife Test

Yeah, if you watch it full-screen and pay attention, at one point when he flips the knife you can actually see the fake blade on the back of his hand. I tried to stop the frame at the exact second and take a screenshot of it, but I can't get the vid player I have on this computer to be that precise. Pretty cool trick though.
  9. Here's the link to an article about them that came out on Wired.com today: http://blog.wired.com/cars/2009/01/indian-chiefs-h.html
  10. I'm sure if you spent the time to do a solid write-up with pictures, Don would be more than happy to post it in the Tech section.
  11. All I typically wanted to carry on mine was a bottle of water, so I took someone's suggestion on here and used a typical can "huggie" with the bottom torn out. Fit perfectly over the gas cap, and held nice and tight. Never once lost a bottle. It worked with cans to, though full cans tend not to like bumps, neither does your tank when it gets soda all over it.
  12. Mine's been to leave the co-pilot at home.
  13. I too wouldn't buy a bike without a test-ride. Some dealers are like that though. Luckily the Japanese dealers around here are pretty easy to work with. You just walk in, tell them what you want to ride, and they tell you to give them a few minutes while they get it ready. The closest BMW dealer to me was another story though. They didn't offer any demo rides... period. So, I decided to drive an extra hour and half to the next one, and they expected you to ride one before buying it. Yes, it was a demo bike, but it only had 90 miles on it, and the demo bikes are all serviced right at the dealership, so I had no worries. Long story short, I ended up buying my bike at the dealer that let me ride one.
  14. Also, I don't know how others feel, but I've always felt like online forums have a tendency to scare people. For example: when I was shopping around for my new bike, I was hitting the various forums trying to get a feel for the good and the bad of each bike I was considering. Most of the time, forums are jam packed with people throwing a fit, or crying for help, because they're having problems. Many people (I'm sure a few of you on here were the same way) join a forum at the beginning just because they're trying to get some help on a problem. What you don't get a feel for, are the tons and tons of people that never have a single problem with their bike. They just don't post on a daily basis how they had another ride with no problems. So my suggestion, like others on here, is to simply go with what feels right, fits you, and fits your budget. Letting any of those three slide will only make you ultimately unhappy with your decision. As for the whine, my '03 Midnight had a little bit to it, but nothing that ever bothered me. Had I never read about it here, I never would have even realized what it was. Like the above post, I just assumed it was a normal sound for the engine.
  15. This is what I was trying to find: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yamaha_Venture
  16. I don't know all of the specific dates and designations, but the older models (1st Gen) were Venture Royales, and the newer ones (2nd Gen) are actually Royal Star Ventures.
  17. Congrats. And as you're already well aware, you're at the right place for help!
  18. My bike doesn't have an intercom system, and me and the s/o are perfectly happy with a ChatterBox setup. I'm using an older (I believe discontinued HJC 80 setup), and the sound quality is just fine. Not only that, but since I didn't opt for the stereo option on mine, I'm able to plug my Zune right into the ChatterBox and listen to music right through the headsets. That point may not be crucial since the bike you're considering has the stereo.
  19. I really hope it works out and I can make it to this, even if it's only Friday evening & Saturday. I think it would be a great time, and it's not that far. Hell, it's only a matter of miles from the dealership where I bought my bike. Any good campgrounds in the area?
  20. Thanks. I think I found it about the time you did. Don't know if I could be there on that Thursday, but depending on my work schedule, I might be able to make the Friday/Saturday.
  21. Not sure, but this may be what you're looking for. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1656
  22. Around the $1.89 mark here in central IL.
  23. Hey, Bill... Where is the info on the St. Charles meet? I might have to try and schedule a work trip to Florissant towards the end of that week so I can work that in.
  24. Surely not. A day with Dad, on a motorcycle, checking out other motorcycles... sounds like a perfect day to me! In fact, I bet my dad will go along as well.
