  1. News? Do they still play that on TV? I wouldn't know, I haven't been able to stand watching it for years.
  2. Scary. Not only the size of the claws, but simply the idea of running into something of that size. Glad to hear the rider came out alright.
  3. The next target shall be... You, your bike, and a public sign w/ the letter 'X' in it somewhere. NOTE: XXX signs do not count. Nor do street signs. These would be too easy (depending on your location). Hoping this one isn't too difficult, but it should involve a little scouting. Good luck!
  4. Good luck, Don. I'm pulling for you. My mom has smoked for years, and I'm always trying to back her when she tries to quit. I'm not sure how many times, and ways, she's tried but nothing's worked yet. Then I know others, like you, who went cold turkey and came out just fine.
  5. My grandpa told me at one time to pick this one up. He said it was a really good one. Cool to see some overlap in what people have read. I'll have to check this one out as well. Anyone ever read "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance"?
  6. That's awesome! Too bad it's my bike that usually gets nailed.
  7. I keep thinking about picking up some books to read now and again, motorcycle related, and there are so many out there!! From journeys to guides, and everything in between. So let's hear it, what are some of your favorite motorcycle-oriented books, and what category would you put them in? Example: Proficient Motorcycling (training/tips/tricks/etc.)
  8. If not, I got it covered! Either way, let us know who needs to come up with the next target!
  9. Looks awesome, Jay! Now the hard part will be making sure all the chrome on the bike can keep up with the shine of the diamond plate! As soon as the weather gets a little more consistent, I'll get my trailer out of storage and finish up the wiring on it. It'll be a little nerve wracking pulling it the first time, seeing as how I didn't start small. But I'm told they pull great as well. I can't wait, I'm so ready to get out on the road and just go...
  10. 5'8" 150lbs
  11. I was looking at those when I was looking a trailers. It seems like a neat idea, and in theory I don't see why it wouldn't work. The trailer I ended up buying already had a swivel hitch on it, so I didn't pursue this one any further. The only question I'd have, is they say it doesn't flop back and forth when under tow, but what about when you don't have a trailer behind you? Not that it would necessarily hurt anything, but having a ball clang around back there on corners could get distracting/annoying.
  12. How about this? Chrome Handlebar Mounted Speakers On second thought, this could be the same as the ones noted above. I couldn't get that link to pull up for some reason. The ones I posted are through J&P Cycles, but they too are Kuryakyn.
  13. Mine was definitely a personal issue. I'm a small guy, and just wasn't comfortable with it. That could also be because I have not had a experienced rider course (yet, I'm enrolled for May), nor have I ever watched any of the RLAP videos or anything similar. However, I think most of the replies to the original post were in regards to him having a wing, yet being tired of the weight. Like the others, I'm not quite sure there's much to gain (or lose as the case may be) by switching to a Venture.
  14. I do too... that's why I said "almost".
  15. So the sides are too I'm guessing? That's almost a shame, as then you could have painted it to match.
  16. Heh, I can vouch for that, being a Beemer now.
  17. Before I begin, know that I'm only 5'8", and 150lbs... I sold my Venture because I wanted something smaller, and easier to handle at low speeds when loaded 2-up with gear. The weight became a major issue for me. Now as a comparison, I've ridden my dad's '96 GL1500, and to me they felt pretty close. Granted, I never put as many miles on his Wing as I did on my RSV. However, I've sat on the GL1800's, and I thought they felt lower and more balanced than the 1500. So, from my standpoint, I'm not quite sure that you'd be gaining much in the way of a lighter, more maneuverable bike. Again, this could be do to our size difference. I will definitely have to agree that you should find a dealer (or meet with some of the members here) and take one for a ride. If size is your main deciding factor... That's just my . As to your other questions, GeorgeS pretty much summed them up.
  18. Sweet... I love diamond plate.
  19. I can't wait. I'm really looking forward to it. From those of you that have taken it, or those that help teach, I have a question. I'm very heavily considering picking up a copy of "Ride Like A Pro". Would it be beneficial for me to do so before I take the ERC in May, or would I be better off waiting? I'm just thinking that I'm going to learn more from actual in-class and hands-on instruction than I am from a DVD, but the DVD may supplement what I learn at the ERC nicely. Thoughts?
  20. Awesome, Jay. Can't wait to see pics of your setup. Did you (or are you going to) have the trailer color-matched, so it too is the "bestest"?
  21. I'm sending off an affidavit this morning stating that I did not authorize charges of approximately $300 to a Walgreens in California. I've never even been to California! Credit union called me a week and a half ago to see if I authorized them, and when I didn't, they registered the card as lost/stolen. The crazy thing is, I still have the card in my possession, and I only have one.
  22. Sounds good to me. As long as it works, and is easy to manage (for your sake and that of the other moderators).
  23. My bike is currently in a friend's garage, but if I get it back one evening this week (very possible), I can hopefully complete this one. There is a blow sitting in a parking lot not 1/2 mile from my house.
  24. Yes, I remember the service guy telling me that as well, about not simply letting it idle because it was easier on the electrical system with the RPMs up.
  25. Well, I guess if I had to choose a "worst" bike, it would have to be the RSV. I hate to say that, because the RSV is just a great bike, just not for me. It simply didn't end up fitting the bill for what I wanted out of a bike. That, and the previous owner/mechanic/whatever didn't do much of anything well, and I didn't learn that until it was too late. I did have it running great when I finally got rid of it, but at that point I knew I wanted something a bit smaller. So all in all, I guess I have to give it the "worst" label simply because it was the only one I ever had any problems with, and it didn't fit my wants & needs at the time.
