Don't know if this has been posted already or not (did a quick search with no results). Looks like Harley is taking a step ahead of other manufacturers and making a factory-backed trike. See it here. It's about time. I'm actually surprised Harley was the first to make this move.

I second all of the above.

I just re-read my post. Is it really okay to use 5 commas in the same sentence? -

My BMW dealer's service man told me that I could use it in lieu of the BMW oil "if need be". Basically, if it meets the owner's manual's specifications, you're fine. He did point out that most motorcycle specific oils have more additives in them for longevity's sake, because they're typically not ridden as often and for as many miles as cars. So if you planned on leaving your bike sit all winter long, it wouldn't be a bad idea to use an oil formulated for motorcycles. That was all I needed to hear. I went to my local Farm & Fleet and bought a gallon jug if it for about what I'd pay for a quart of the BMW oil. Because I don't know about the rest of you, but my bike doesn't sit for any length of time if I have anything to say about it. So no, I can't say for sure it'll work for the older Ventures, because I'm not familiar with them, but as I said, if it meets manual spec, I'm sure it'd be fine. -
Man I do like the looks of the 1800 Wings in yellow. And I am really going to have to find a dealer to take one of those DN-01's for a ride. Not that I'm in the market for a new one, but that thing looks crazy!

Bummer. That would definitely be a pain in the... Yeah, it works well, just didn't know if it too was a pain since it wasn't fully integrated.

I don't know if you're happy with the way the classifieds work or not, Don, but there is an alternative. One of the BMW forums I visit uses a simple forum structure for their classifieds, and it seems to work really well. For whatever reason, I seem to be more inclined to visit that one than one on another forum that functions like the one here. That could just be be me too... I am a strange one after all. Here is how the one looks that is setup just like a regular forum (they simply dis-allow anyone but the original poster from replying, forcing everything to go through e-mails or PMs): BMW Sport Touring Classifieds Again, take it or leave it. The classifieds here work just fine, in fact, I had my RSV listed in them until it sold. It's just another option since you said they're not truly integrated into the site.

All this talk about riding position leaves me with one thing to say... Ride them both before, extensively if you can, before settling on one. I recently sold my RSV and bought a BMW RT. I was leery of the seating position, because I loved my floorboards and heel-toe shifter as well. I wasn't sure how I'd adjust to having my feet below me and my knees bent (my left knee is sometimes a cause of pain, and I'm only 26). However, after spending a few hours on my dad's '96 Wing, and now a little over 3,500 miles on my RT, I have to say I like the position. I actually don't get as much soreness in my tailbone (even on the stock seat) as I did on my RSV. One of the reasons I think that may be (granted, no scientific evidence here) is that more weight is shifted to my feet and thighs than straight down my spine, which happens when your feet are thrown out front. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to take sides, just trying to offer a different opinion. I love the looks of both the RSV and the new Wing, and think they're both quite comfortable. I mean, I've seen both on cross-country trips, so they've both got something going for them.

Glad to hear everyone is doing well!

I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing that we really only see a fraction of those registered. On the one hand, at least the forums don't get too overwhelmed, but on the other, I'm sure there are a ton of really great people registered who simply troll the forums and never post.

Great find. I have mine requested as well! -
The pic displays just fine for me in both posts.

That, and I don't think the engineers had "footrest" in mind when it came to the heads. Or maybe they did... who knows! Anyway, they do also make pegs that replace the spark covers... like these: http://www.cyclegadgets.com/images/Elf_Open_250.jpg Again, I do have options, they just run me $300+! Now I know what it's like to be a Harley rider who only wants Harley accessories...
-
The "tupperware" sticks out too far to comfortably rest my feet on the heads. I can get about half a foot on there... heh. I've also thought about getting a set of pegs like that, but I think they would interfere with my crash bars. See here. That's why I was hoping to find some simple clamp on ones, but I didn't realize it'd be such a hassle. If all else fails, I have some heavy duty gasket rubber (in sheet form) that I will put around the bar and then clamp on to. Which really will server two purposes... one to protect the bar and the other to make it a tight fit.
-
This Beemer rider must be the exception. Not only do I wave to everyone, but I'd actually prefer to put non-BMW parts ::GASP:: on when possible to avoid spending $300 for something someone else makes a whole heck of a lot cheaper! That also could be why I can't find pegs to fit, since they're Touratech crash bars.
-
Sweet... those might just work. And they look better than the ones MC Enterprises has. I called a local bike shop (not a dealer) and they think they have several different types that should fit bars under 1", so I'll probably drop in there Friday afternoon and see what they have before making any decisions. Thanks for the heads up on the BikeBandit ones!
-
Anyone know of some good clamp on footpegs that will fit crash bars that are less than 1"? The crash bars on my bike are 7/8", or around there, and I just have this feeling that 1" clamps will need some... umm... help in staying where I want them. The only ones I've been able to find are from MC Enterprises, called Holey Pegs, that are made for 7/8", but when I checked today, JC Whitney no longer carries them. That's what I get for waiting so long. And I know I could make some of the larger clamps work, I'm just being picky here. Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions on places to look for non-standard sized pegs, let me know!

I would like to be added to the list. Thanks.

Yep, that's the one. The rain was actually the least of my worries. It was the wind that made it a miserable trip. I'll take rain any day over that.

I too would not be able to own a car or motorcycle if I didn't finance. I don't have the luxury of being able to drop that much cash. Maybe that's due to the fact I'm only 26. Regardless, I have to say that I would have done the same thing and walked out. When I bought my new bike (the BMW), I did the financing through the dealer. The percentage rate was just a fraction of a percent higher than the best I could find around here, so I went that route for less wasted time and effort on my part. When it came to the issue of the down payment, I was asked one question, "how much do you want to put down?". That's it. At first I didn't know because I wanted to run some numbers, and I wasn't handing them a check that day anyway, just made sure the credit was there. Once I determined where I wanted my payment to be, and over what term, I figured my down payment from there. I wouldn't have had to put anything down if I didn't want to, and they only change it would have made would have been my payment. It had no effect whatsoever on my percentage rate, which was based purely on my credit rating and the term of the loan. Maybe that's just a BMW Vs. Honda thing, but I still think you got the wrong end of that deal.

Sweet! I'd definitely ride that. Any info on who built it?

Kinda like this one.

How about this one? Hello, my name is Alfonso Merkin. I am suffering from rare and deadly diseases, poor scores on final exams, lack of sexual activity, fear of being kidnapped and executed by electrocution, and guilt for not sending out 50 billion forwards sent to me by people who actually believe that if you send them, that poor 6 year old girl in Arkansas with lung cancer brought on by second-hand smoke from the cigarettes smoked by the big bad men who kidnapped her and took pornographic pictures of her for use on their child pornography web site will get 6 cents very time you send me the letter. Do you honestly believe that Bill Gates is going to give you and everyone you send "his" email to $1000? How stupid are you? Ooooh, looky here! If I scroll down this page and make a wish, I'll get laid by every Victoria's Secret model in the catalog! What a bunch of bull[edit]. So basically, this message is a big [edit] YOU to all the people out there who have nothing better to do than to send me stupid chain mail forwards. Maybe the evil chain letter leprechauns will come into my apartment and [edit] me in my sleep for not continuing the chain which was started by Jesus in 5 A.D. and was brought to this country by midget pilgrims on the Mayflower and if it makes it to the year 2000, it'll be in the Guinness Book of World Records for longest continuous streak of blatant stupidity. If you're going to forward something, at least send something mildly amusing. I've seen all the "send this to 50 of your closest friends, and this poor, wretched excuse for a human being will somehow receive a nickel from some omniscient being" forwards about 50 times. Show a little intelligence and think about what you're actually contributing to by sending out forwards. Chances are it's your own unpopularity. P.S. Please forward this to at least 50 of your best friends!

Once I got a good feel for the bike in the wind (my first high wind experience on this bike) it was just a matter of riding close to the shoulder line, and "pre-leaning" into the wind when getting ready to clear some trees or ridge. I did a 7 hour straight ride in the rain once from Ohio home, and it was nothing compared to the hour and 45 I spent fighting that wind yesterday. I had such a headache when I got home... either from the constant buffeting, or the tension, I'm not sure which.
