  1. If that's true, then why are sportbike tires trending towards wider and wider tires? It's certainly not because sportbike manufacturers expect them to only go "hi-way straight".
  2. What ohm rating is required on those coils?...
  3. I run a kenda challenger in the rear, works great, handles great. I get at least a season out of them pulling a light trailer, and for the price I can buy two kendas for what it costs for one longer lasting tire, so I don't see the point of spending more. It would be nice to fit something wider, though.
  4. Really?...you've never heard of a little company called hilborn, then?.... Seriously though, I know this thread is a few months old so who knows if anyone is still paying attention, but.... I have always been a big believer in carbs. I think if fuel injection had been first, and the carb a recent invention, then the carburetor would be hailed as a revolutionary breakthrough in fuel delivery simplification. That said, if you want to do a forced induction setup, and you want the engine to deliver maximum horsepower, live more than a few minutes, and be streetable and driveable, you NEED the amount of fine control you have over fuel delivery that you can really only obtain from fuel injection. If someone was thinking of slapping a little toyota sc14 supercharger on a venture, fuel injection would be the way to go...Then just TRY and catch up to them to let them know that fuel injection is only good for the environment and fuel economy.... The other obvious benefits of fuel injection would be perfect stoichiometry no matter the altitude or temperature, quicker throttle response, ease of maintenance and the ability to tune it for whatever mod you planned in the future, with a few minutes and a couple keystrokes.
  5. Thanks for the reply, that would be great, if possible. I would appreciate it. Yeah, your sidecovers and a couple others I have looked at on here are what inspired me. I think the Venture looks great as it comes from the factory, but after 15 years of having it, I am ready to change it up some. I was thinking about going full chopper on it (they sound like two pissed off harleys going down the road with straight pipes, only faster.), but finding some kind of tank or tank shell to fit the wide double tube frame is a little challenging, and after seeing some pictures here, I think the "semi bobbed" look is pretty darn cool. cut down side covers, get rid of the leg vents under the fairing, cut the windshield down, take the trunk off..etc.
  6. Hello all, new guy here with an 83 xvz12 I have had for about 15 years now. Great site, wealth of information here. Quick question, I am planning a styling change, based on a couple of bikes I have seen here which I call "semi-bobbed", basically I want to expose the engine more (it's a great looking engine, why keep it covered?) and remove the trunk, etc... Make it look a little more like a fairinged cruiser than a full dress tourer. My question is: Before I cut the side covers down, is there anything I should consider, best method for cutting, tips, tricks, etc? Thank you, Johnny.
