OK first of all this site rocks. Since I bought my 85 Venture I have found most everything I needed to know here. But I have a rear end issue that I'm sure is common. I was going to replace the gear oil in the rear end. Book says .3 of a liter or 300ml. Get a measuring cup just to see how much drains out. Get my allen head sockets and 19mm socket for the drain and sit on the floor. The fill cap on the rear, about half way up looks a little knarly but the metric allen slides in sorta tight. Give a pull with the ratchet and around it comes....ta da stripped.....I assume this should not be this tight. Tried the SAE a little bigger and tapped it in with a hammer...no good. Is there a easy fix for this? I could drill it out and save the threads and get a new cap. Only worry is that the filings would fall down inside!! Not good! As always looking to fix the most economical. But if I need to go to the dealer I will. Thanks everybody!!

Well I had the back wheel off to change out the tire. Noticed the fuel filter hanging out there under the rear fender. Thought to myself, it would be a convenient time to change it out. On my way to the shop to swap tires picked one up at Cdn Tire. Wow what a difference. Fired up the bike and it goes through the hole rpm range now with no stumbling at all. I was thinking it needed diaphrams and such. Been running seafoam and helped a little. Just wanted to pass it on. If your ride is running like SH*t, maybe the $4 fix, not the $100 one needed:) Brad

I've changed the filter a few time but ya know. When you assemble the spring goes on the shaft between the filter and the magnessium cover to keep the filter tight to the motor right?!! Total brain fart! Pretty sure I'm right:) Tx Brad:fingers-crossed-emo

Thats to funny. I have some left over from replacing the screen for the patio door. Will have to give that a try. Thanks. Any idea if the carb diaphrams are still available? TX

I have an 85 that needs the seals on the luggage replaced. Asked at the dealer just for fun but they are discontinued. What are people using to seal the luggage? Where can I find it? Also are they still shpping the carb boots from the above link, $60 for 4?? TX

Do the air collars on the front forks just slide up and off to remove the forks?? They don't seem to move. I sprayed some wd40 on the but still nothing. Trying to get them out for my guy to rebuild. Ideas, a little tap up to convince maybe?? Tx

Yup...the green wire was off. A little squish and all is good. THANKS ALL!! -
What is everybody using for oil in these old V4's. Standard 15w40 or the Mobile1 synthetic? I used Mobile1 VTwin in my Buell but not sure about my 85 as it is new to me. Older bikes in the past I used just regular 15w40?? Only 55000kms. Thanks

Thanks everybody. I think I gonna give the Kenda Kruz a try form Zendo motorsports.

The Spitfire S11 was another option. Thought it would be a little light duty but have to go and get something soon. Think I will stay away from the Metzler for now. HUMMMM! What to do.

I've always ran Metzler tires on my sport bikes. So now that I have a 85 Venture project I have to decide on a set of tires. As always budget is a concern, but are the Marathon 880's good. Its only a few bucks more than the Kenda Cruz @ Royal Distributing?? Or is there somewhere better to get tires in Ontario??

85 Temperature Gauge Issue!

My 85 temp gauge has stopped working. Fan still starts when the bike heats up so everything is working except the actual gauge. Is there a cost effective/easy fix. Seem that all the wires are there and attached. Thanks.
