  1. Check out the posts on lowering links and a narrower front tire. I ride with the standard tire and height but others have had success with the mod's. Good luck and enjoy your Venture. You will find that this is a bike you can get on in the morning and ride all day. Fitz
  2. Sorry I can't help with your electrical problem. I was just wondering; If the blinkers don't blink and the flashers don't flash, what did the pistons do??:rotf:
  3. Good Ride Cowboy, Good Ride!
  4. Hitch Things is a local company. http://www.hitchthings.com
  5. Rode round trip Pennsylvania to Deadwood, SD in August 07. Gentle massage the entire trip. No hot spots or saddle sores. I have the small black beads make for the motorcycle seat.
  6. I found that this stuff works very well. Spray it on and hose it off, chamois and done. Really makes the chrome sparkle. Start to finish 15 minutes (not counting the time to roll up the hose.) Buy it in the bulk container and use your own spray bottle. Standard spray bottle from bike brite uses way to much. A fine mist will do the job. http://www.bikebrite.com/

    stock seat?

I use a wooden bead seat pad on a stock seat. The beads are about 3/4" dia. and strung together with heavy fishing line. This set-up allows some ventilation and reduces the pressure points. You can kind of roll around on it to get some massage action, gets the blood flowing if you know what I mean. Did 4000 miles in 10 day with no discomfort. You can find them on the internet for around $15 - $20. Nice low cost remedy before you buy a seat. Good Luck, Fitz
  8. It's going to be hard to shave around those new scars.
  9. on my '99 RSV less the speedo error of about 8% = 78 MPH. The old gal will run all day at that and get 41 mpg. Made a couple of quick trips crossing Iowa and South Dakota. I love this scooter.
  10. They sell some pretty cool T-shirts.
  11. One place you may want to visit is the Harley factory in York, PA. Only about 30 minutes west of Lancaster. There is a visitor center and museum there. Factory tours are available on weekdays. Laugerman Harley Davidson dealership is just west of the factory on PA Rt. 30. There are plenty of Amish tourist type places in Lancaster and a large shopping mall. Enjoy, Fitz
  12. David, I have ran the Rotella T 5w40 since last May through 3 oil changes, about 13,000 miles. All types of riding--A trip from PA to South Dakota, 150 miles + per day travel for work, weekend jaunts and just tooling around town. The greatest benefit I have found is the shifting. Very crisp. No change in the tranny whine. Fitz
  13. Tom, Go to the Tech Talk forum. You will find alot of info on oil there. Everybody has their own view. I use diesel oil (Rotella T synthetic 5-40) with very good results. Wal-Mart sells it at about $20 per gallon. Shifts better than the Mobil-1 I used before. Check out the posts. Fitz
  14. for every day riding give me the old '99 silver and gray. Much easier to keep looking clean. Like someone said on this forum "If I'm cleaning I'm not riding." Fitz
  15. Pick, I have ran the hotter NGK DPR7EIX9 for about 3000 miles. No difference in performance. Run'em. Fitz
  16. The place looks a little funky with the names carved in the tables and the license plates nailed to the walls but---The sandwiches are very good and the beer is cold, even in a plastic cup. I make it a point to stop there every MB trip.
  17. That's the fastest bike I have ever seen sittin' still. Tell us more about your Star.
  18. Thank you for the beautiful poem, we'er touched at the Fitzgerald Home. Merry Christmas to all.
  19. Try Stambaugh Metal they should be able to help. They polish parts for Harley-Davidson production and have contacts with a chrome plater. http://www.metalsfinishing.com
  20. Sorry Ken, Your new HD wasn't built this week. Harley has a shut down until next Monday.
  21. I vote for June 7, to much family stuff on M-day weekend.
  22. Thanks to all for the input. I will try the shim fix for the short term and I have ordered a plug to replace the leaking one. Talked to the Yamaha Tech. at Riders Edge in Gettysburg, he recommends only replacing the plug that is leaking. If the other 3 ain't broke, don't fix them. Thanks again, Fitz
  23. I have had a slow "weep" of antifreeze for a while in my "99. Just a drop or two over a couple of days. Pulled the cooling fin off the left rear cylinder and found a leaking "special plug" (description from the Yamaha parts breakdown). It appears to be a rubber plug with a steel core that has internal threads. Has anyone had this problem and are there instructions available for removal and installation?
  24. I had my new tire, ordered via the Yamaha Parts System, mounted at Riders Edge Yamaha in Gettysburg, PA yesterday. The numbers on the new tire are 150/90B-15 MC 74H the tire that was worn out in 7,000 miles was a 150/90-15 MC 74H. It will take a few months to see if the "B" tire out lasts the "Non-B". Average tread deapth is .35", I will keep the forum posted on tire wear.
