  1. Don’t be too quick to send the old girl to the scrap heap. The “First Genners” on this site revere these old relics and I am sure someone will give it the tender loving care it needs. Try posting it in the classified section of this site. Good luck and ride safe.
  2. Saw this post on buggiesgonewild.com posted in Oct. 2012. Might be a place to start. "I've got a 91 with a complete engine I'm parting out. No hole in block but has a broken rod. Call me on the parts your looking for. 618-924-6730"
  3. I use this product and found it to be very good. Spray it on, garden hose it off. Not perfect but pretty good. http://www.bikebrite.com/ I buy it by the gallon and use my own spray bottle.
  4. I had issues with 2 Deka batteries back to back. Neither would hold a charge more than 4 or 5 days. Did all of the checks for draw and charging, everything checked out OK. Had the first one checked, bad cell replaced after 2 months. Battery #2 would stay charged with the battery tender. Take it off for 4-5 days and it would go completely dead. Didn't bother to have it checked. Switched brands problem solved.
  5. Using ball end allen wrenchs will help. It is a tight area. Good luck.
  6. Muffinman, OBX Bike Week is this week. Check out this site http://obxentertainment.com/tag/bike-week/ Have fun!!
  7. :sign yeah that:Been using Rotella Synthetic for the last 70,000 miles. I am now at 100,900. The old '99 still runs like new. I change oil and filter every 5000-6000 miles.
  8. I myself and I believe several other members don't attache the seat with nuts. If you are on it it isn't going anywhere. Just my $.02
  9. I would try Pinwall Cycle at this site http://pinwallcycle.com/
  10. I found that the sparkplug wrench that came with the standard tool kit works best for loosening and tightening and the air line hose works well for everything in between.
  11. My '99 will leak a little from the front left cyl. head gasket when the temp drops to around freezing. Had the head bolts re-torqued but it didn't help. When the engine warms up, even on a cold day the leak stops. Never any indication of antifreeze in the oil. Will require a head gasket in the future but the engine must be removed to do the repair. Good Luck.
  12. ............and some clean underware!!! Lucky Man.
  13. Legal or illegal doesn't make a difference to me but here are some facts: Your motorcycle travels: 29.3 feet per second at 20 mph. 36.7 feet per second at 25 mph. 44.0 feet per second at 30 mph. 95.3 feet per second at 65 mph. There is not a warning light or alarm when a motorist swings open their door. Unexpected movement is to be expected in a traffic jam. If a motorcycle is involved in an accident with a cage it will lose. What is your reaction time?
  14. You may want to take a look at SKYDOC's clutch spring upgrade offered in the Venturerider Classifieds under the MEMBER VENDOR Section.
  15. A great gift to ask Santa to bring would be a SpeedoHealer. The factory speedometer reads about 8% faster than your actual speed. Do a search on this site and you can find more info. Enjoy your new ride and Merry Christmas.:2TEAL:
  16. That's now my new Theme Song and I know it will make some great traveling music. I can't wait to get it loaded to the iphone. Thanks for sharing!
  17. Boomer, Be sure that the volume is turned up on your Ipod. I turn my up full volume and control it with the bikes volume knob. Check your Headset (HS) and Speakers (SP) for the mode you are operating in. Good Luck!
  18. I purchased mine form Pinwall. A little pricy but great service and the paint matched my '99. They list several with the seat back and speakers. They may break them down for you if you give them a call. They also list a trunk bottom that appears to have cracks repaired. It may hold together with the reinforcement kit. Good Luck!
  19. This should be helpful http://www.wisetool.com/bendradius.htm
  20. I just sent them an email thanking them for their generosity and patriotism. What a great gesture on their part. Red Jacket email address: jmeaux@redjacketfirearms.com
  21. I heard the NAPA advertisement on the radio yesterday. Seafoam is on sale for $6.48 until April 30, 2012. Time to stock up!
  22. I always thought that mentioning oil or tires would keep a thread alive. I use Rotella T6 and Avon tires. Everyone knows that's the best oil and tire comb!!!:stickpoke:
  23. I will turn over 94,000 today and would take my '99 cross country without hesitation. When you ride the RSV just remember that she will love RPM's. The Venture won't lug like the HD. Don't worry about the red line, the rev-limiter will take care of that. Buy it and enjoy.
  24. I had an opportunity to have my battery tested this afternoon. It did indeed have a bad cell. All is well with the Silver Streak. Thanks to all of the Ventureriders that lent me their troubleshooting expertise and experience, especially Sylvester and Condor. What a great site.
  25. Rick, I PM'ed Sylvester. He indicated that they took it to the Yamaha Dealer. Not sure of the problem but he mentioned memory.
