Headlight adjustment little did I realize.
foyerboy replied to hubbsfd's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
So how much better headlight performance do you now have? I've thought about doing this mod myself..... -
Riding as hard as you can, everywhere you can 1 up, throttle twisted so hard your forearm cramps, 31-32 mpg..... :rotf::rotf:

.......surprises me too. Last year there was just about anything you could need on ebay, and several to choose from.......this year nothing. Thank God we tore the bike down last year for a ground up restoration.......

So I'm making a list of winter projects that I want to do to the bike. I came across this Ivan's jet kit http://www.ivansperformanceproducts.com/xvz1300.htm and was wondering if anyone on the forum has tried this? So far my winter upgrades/projects list include: 1. VMax rear end swap 2. New stainless steel brake and clutch lines from Skydoc17 3. Skydoc's R1 front brake caliper upgrade 4. Rebuild the carbs......(which leads me to wonder about doing the Ivan jet kit) I'm open to other upgrade ideas, but mostly would like some feedback from anyone who has upgraded their jets (Especially with Ivan's). What are the pros and cons of this type of upgrade? Is it really worth it? Thanks for your input......

I'm itching to get out on the road today. I live here in Hickory, anyone feel like riding? I know there must be some Western NC Venture Riders on here....

OK, so I have a question for you RSV Masters out there. Last weekend went for a ride from my home in Hickory, NC out to Mountain City, TN.....Rode on "The Snake" and "The Devils Whip". It was about a 275 mile day..... Here's the problem at about 175 miles of riding I slow down to make a turn onto the Blue Ridge Pkwy and the bike shuts off....been running like a champ until then. Try to crank it for a minute , won't crank. Wait a minute...cranks. This happens 4 or 5 more times on the way home, mostly when I am slowing down to a stop. All this happens within 20 minutes, the rest of the ride home....45 minutes was no problem. I get home and garage the bike. I roll the bike out to wash her yesterday, when I went to put her up, same thing, gotta play with her to get her started(never had this problem before). I get her started and try to keep her throttled, she still cuts off. I get it started one time and really have her throttle up good....engine suddenly cuts off, not like its not getting gas either, it was as if I hit the kill switch. Another clue, I notice yesterday during all this that when the engine would die, the Yellow Engine Light would continue to blink 9 times, pause and blink 9 times again. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK? This is a new problem, never had it before..... Thanks in advance for your help.....you guys are great!

FYI everybody, Brian (tx2sturgis) and LilBeaver were correct. WillBill1 helped me switch the low fuel indicator light back to the stock incandescent and it fixed the problem. With that being said all the other dash lights work correctly with the new LEDS installed and are brighter.....which I like. The only dash light you cannot replace with an LED is the Low Fuel light. One other thing you should know if anyone does this upgrade. If you install LED's in your dash, LED's are polarized, meaning you have to put them in just right. An incandescent can be installed one way and then flipped over and it will still work fine. The LED needs to be tested to make sure it lights up before you button everything back up. If an LED does not work carefully remove it flip it around and you should be good to go. Thanks again to WildBill1 in Mooresville NC for all of your help, and thanks to the others of you that helped me arrive at this conclusion!

Rick really does a good job on these seat mods. I did 600 miles last week hardly had to move around at all. I recommend getting a sheepskin to put on top of your seat as well. I have to say I have been very impressed with the comfort of my seat since these 2 additions to mine.

What a precious baby......Praise God that he's doing well.....Congrats and keep looking upward!

I was in Edenton NC for the weekend and stayed at the Hampton Inn there. I notice a black RSV also stayed there. Anyone on the forum here? Also today on the way back home I notice a Blue and Black RSV just outside of Raliegh around noon on Hwy 64 west bound.....

Rick, Isn't the Fuel Thermistor part of the sender assembly I just replaced inside the tank? What are the odds of a brand new fuel sender assembly in the tank being bad?

So many of you guys have a lot more mechanical wisdom than I do so I am posting this question for your opinions..... I recently went completely through my bike getting it restored (99RSV), new paint, new parts, new mods, blah blah, blah- you get the point. When we reinstalled the gas tank getting everything put back together the low fuel indicator light now stays on. The contacts appear to be good and I cleaned them for good measure(where they connect in front of the tank), still the light stays on. This morning I replaced the fuel thingy in the tank.....still same problem. Now though here's what happens: Turn key on, get correct fuel level reading on gauge momentarily then all fuel bars blink 7 times pause, blink 8 times pause, blink 8 times again, then only the top fuel bar continues to blink(the bar for totally full) none of the other bars light, meanwhile the low fuel indicator remains lit. The tank has about 5 gallons of gas in it. One more thing I will include is that I replaced all my indicator lights in the dash with LEDs which take much less wattage to operate are a lot brighter and have a long long life. What are your thoughts ?? :detective:

Bill, again thanks for all your hard work on my bike. Thanks VR members for all of the information sharing. It's pretty cool to have hundreds of years combined experience at your finger tips when needed. Also thanks for the compliments on the bike....I told WillBill1 what I wanted and he made it happen. Now I'm as happy as a turkey after Thanksgiving....

I wanted to take the time to thank one of the Venture Riders on this site. For the past 2.5 months he has patiently and meticulously worked to restore a Salvaged 99 RSV that I bought 2 years ago. I bought this bike thinking it would be a “winter project” but really underestimated the amount of work and attention to detail it would take to get it in tip top condition. A little about me....I am a perfectionist. If I am not confident that something can be done to perfection I will hold off until I am prepared to perform to that degree. I will not start something and say “oh that's no big deal, or that's not quite right but it will do” After realizing that this restoration was above my skill level, it sat in my garage until shortly after I joined this site and found WillBill1. Bill Little aka WillBill1 lives north of Charlotte, NC. What attracted me to Bill was the fact the he is a retire engineer, skilled mechanic, and rides what we ride. What more could you ask for? I told home my bike and he was confident that he could make it perfect and I knew after only a short while of speaking to him that he would treat my bike as his own- no shortcuts would be taken. I've included some pics of my bike before and after but that only tells a small piece of the story. The PO of my bike totaled it back in 2003 or 2004 and his well meaning son in law tried to put it back together, doing more harm that good. He used common nuts and bolts from Lowes or Home Depot, left lots of stuff off the bike and just all around screwed the bike up. Bill painstakingly combed over my bike for hours with part diagrams checking off every single nut and bolt that was missing or needed to be replaced and every electrical connection that needed to be repaired. He then got all the maintenance up to date and began doing some of the modifications we have here on our site. He installed a MP3 port next to my powerjack on the inner fairing. He installed my new passing lights and light bar, took out my cassette player and installed gauges, put the Harley License Plate Frame with additional brake lights on the back, raised my forks up in the triple trees to lower the front end and installed and Baron's Lowering Kit for the rear. Keep in mind while doing all this he would would find other little things that needed attention and fix those things as well. He found over 200 parts that were missing from the bike or need to be replaced.....that's attention to detail. I could go on and on about the work that Bill did. He was simply amazing. Not once did he complain about everything he ran into and not once did he raise the price on me that we had agreed to, which by the way was an unbelievable price. I had the pleasure of working with him some on this project and let me tell you, it was obvious he was an engineer. There were a few times that I said to myself “Holy Cow I would have never figured that out”, it was a real joy watching him at work. I hope that you guys will reach out to him if you ever feel you're in to deep and need help. I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that he can handle anything that comes his way. You can find him in the member vendors section..... http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showcat.php?cat=36 Bill, if you are reading this.....Thank You so much, if there is anything I can ever help you with....don't hesitate to call. You're a great guy, I would've never been able to do what you so skilfully did. Thanks again......Matt

So I've had my 99 RSV completely apart for the last month and a half doing a really nice restoration on it along with some mods thanks to the help of WillBill1 on here. Things are starting to come back together, just got back all my parts from paint. Today we were working on getting all of the electrical back together and adding the Harley License Plate Frame on the back and installing a passing light bar and lights up front. Here's the problem.... all of the Hazard lights seem to be working as they should, however when we go to use the turn indicators none of them work and the flasher unit make a buzzing noise. Everything else works, passing lights, running lights ect. We have checked and double checked all connections and they all look good. Before taking the bike apart everything worked fine. What do you guys think the problem could be? Please Help!! :confused24:

QUOTE=Million Mile Rider "Okay, an idea. What if there is a member in each state, and in each province, that is willing to be the (hypothetical) road captain for each state, and do their very best to get as many members from their state to ride to the International Rally?" I like the idea of trying to have members from each state travel together....great idea... Besides that WI, IL or somewhere in Canada sounds cool... (pun intended)

Looks like I may want to find a friend with a Mississippi address and run my bike through there. In NC a Salvage title can be turned into a Salvage rebuilt title , but not a squeeky clean title. You guys are saying in MS it can get a completely clean bill of health if it passes the DOT inspection???
