Congrats! My Grandkids r my world. I'm blessed with 5 girls. It's wonderful watching them blossom!

My better half wants to see Gulf Shores, AL and New Orleans the 3rd week of January. I see their average high is 62 that time of year which is fine compared to what we'll have here in Wisconsin! What suggestions does anybody have for scenic rides, good eats etc in these two regions?

Missing part
Big Auggie replied to Big Auggie's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Went back to the place I had tires changed, no spare collars laying around. Ordered a new one, now watch the old one turn up!! -
I'm thinking a part was lost when I had my tires changed. I see an oil seal on the brake side of the hub that isn't sealing anything. I've attached a pic of what I've got. If that's what happened, does anyone have a spare laying around?

Forgot about the spring break thing. So where's a good place to go in Texas from February 15th-30th.

Looking for suggestions on "must see/do" things for northern Texas for last week of February-first week of March. On average, what kind of weather should we expect??

drive shaft lubrication

Great, I was hoping I could start putting her back together without tearing into it any further! Supposed to be in upper 40's later this week in Wisconsin, so I see a short run on Old Blue in my future. -
tire cupping

I've heard only good things about the product Ride On. It balances the tire and seals punctures. Google it to read the specifics. A friend had it in his tires and it had several puncture wounds by the time he put new tires on. -
Anyone had experience with using the product Ride On, a tire sealant/wheel balancer.

Kuryakyn Hyway Pegs
Big Auggie replied to GolfVenture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Just bought them this summer, should have bought them years ago. Well worth the money! -
While my rear wheel is in the shop getting a new tire is there any recommended maintenance I should do back there while things are apart?

Rough idle and popping in exhaust
Big Auggie replied to jowens's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
When mine does that I change the synch port caps. First time it happened a mechanic sprayed carb cleaner around the carbs while it was running and the rpms increased so we knew it had a vacuum leak. I actually keep spares with me. -
90 VR oversize tires?

What's the advantage of wider tires? -
Anybody riding a V STAR 1300 Deluxe? My '89 is lonely and needs a stall mate. I've been reading reviews on this bike and it sounds promising. What kind of mpg should I expect? Whatever happened to electronic cruise on cruisers? That's one of the many things I love about my '89 VR!

Regulator
Big Auggie replied to Big Auggie's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I'm going back to OEM for my new stator. I have no additional bells and whistles on the bike so don't need any extra juice. -
Regulator
Big Auggie replied to Big Auggie's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Just got in from checking the stator using info in the tech library of the Venturers web site. Found out my 10 year old stator is done. Hardly a volt coming through when I crossed the 1 wire with the 3 wire @ 3000 rpm. The other 2 combinations were only putting out 40 v AC and it was supposed to be around 60. At idle, the 1 - 3 combination output was almost nothing and the other two put out 14 v and should have been 20-25. The original stator lasted 13 years and the new "improved" one lasted 10. -
Regulator
Big Auggie replied to Big Auggie's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Found it -
Just exactly where is the regulator on my 89 VR? I had a new stator put in about 11 years ago, it had a new design allowing it to be cooled more efficiently. Now my system is not keeping the battery charged up so I'm guessing it's the regulator this time around. Battery is brand new.

O rings
Big Auggie replied to Big Auggie's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
That o ring you're talking about that's flat on the housing side and beveled on the crossover side didn't start out that shape. I took advice from this site and went to a hydraulic repair shop. They told me the o ring will take on the shape of the objects it's being compressed by. He gave me 2 regular o rings and I ended up using the thicker of the two. No leaks! -
Decided to go with an Interstate closed cell battery. My last Interstate lasted 6 years and it wasn't a sealed one. My question is: I'm going to put in a resistor so I don't get the battery warning and a constant red light. I read the article Freebird posted like in '06 but the picture quality of the resistor package isn't good enough for me to tell if they are 1/4 or 1/2 watt resistors. Can someone clear that up for me? Thanks to all for the great advice I've gotten from this site. Big Auggie

O rings
Big Auggie replied to Big Auggie's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks for the suggestions folks. I called the Yamaha dealer and they will have 3 of the 4 I wanted to replace ready for pickup by noon tomorrow. Cheaper than anyplace I found online as they weren't charging for shipping. The only one they aren't sure about being able to get is the one on the bottom of the thermostat housing that holds the bypass tube. (Neither of us could find it on the schematic). Oh well 3 out of 4 isn't too bad. Thank heavens the weather is going to be wet and in the 50's so I'm not missing any riding! -
Just put in my 4 brush starter from an '04. Since I've got the thermostat housing out I'd like to replace the O rings. I read on one of the forums that they were readily available at any auto parts store, I didn't find any of the 4 I need in the three parts stores I went to. Guess I'll take out a loan and try the Yamaha dealer. Suggestions??

Mufflers
Big Auggie replied to Big Auggie's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Is the center stand still useable when u installed the Road King pipes? -
My 89 VR is in need of mufflers, what are my options?
