  1. I've been told that Yamaha has solved the whine problem. Newer models have no whine issues or at least that's what my dealer has told me. It may be all smoke and mirrors but, I know neither my Wife's or Mine has any whine or chirp. I'm not sure how far back that supposedly goes?? Maybe we can get our group to sound off, to see if He's right? Anyone have a whine problem on a newer model? I would think yamaha knew the problem and had answers but it was cheaper to let the customers whine along with there bikes.
  2. If you asked my Wife she would say I don't need help. I'm very good at it.
  3. This forum is great. Bunch of people with a love for biking and a knowledge base that's knows no bounds. Thanks all. Mark
  4. Thanks Mark. Looks like I need to get a tach. Is it the man with the most tools before he dies wins?
  5. Did you turn up the idle or use the throttle? If you did turn up the idle where is the adjustment? Looks like i might need to get a tach if you did the first. I think the unit is set up right. I cut 4 inches off each of the tubes. Cut the clear reducer tube into 4 equal lengths and put them in. I put the 4 inch reduced side of the hose to the bike and the other to the carbtune. Only two on the left side (1 & 2) were erratic. Thanks
  6. Used my carbtune for the first time. 1 & 2 carbs were slightly off. 3 & 4 were even, but there was about 3 difference between the left and right side. Got them adjusted so there all within 1. I noticed there was a lot of bounce on the needles of 1 & 2. 3 & 4 were very steady. Is there something I can do reduce the bounce? Anyone else have this problem? I never thought of changing sides to see if it was the carbs or the guage, until just now. In the carbtune manual it said some adjust the carbs at a high idle. Wondering what most do when syncing?
  7. The 110 v has the advantage of being able to plug it in anywhere. The manual says it will weld up to 5/16th thick, it would be pushing it. I couldn't emagine welding anything that thick around the house.
  8. Can't go wrong with a lincoln. In your search be aware not all units come with the gas kit, even if its the same model. Sometimes the two are almost the same price, so you may as well get the gas kit included.
  9. Cousindave ( His Handle) has a second gen. He rides 2up and when pulling his trailer says 5th gear is almost useless anywhere near a hill.
  10. What does the vmax cams do for the 2nd gens? It must really reduce gas mileage?? Just curious. :-)
  11. By afternoon it could be standing room only. There's a lot of curious people that are not bikers checking things out too. Very interesting mix, quite entertaining, lots of vendors. A few exhibitionist will stop all movement of the crowd. Get there early if possible. Some of my friends leave for Dover a 0500 hrs. and usually head for home before noon. It gets bigger every year and if the weather's cooperates???
  12. If you us the u-bolt. Put a piece of heat shrink over the u-bolt. If you decide to move it later there won't be mark on your handlebars.
  13. True, you may have to ask first. Most stations get money for there used oil. Never tried walmart though.
  14. If you ever plan to do an oil change yourself, on the run. Most gas stations have free disposable funnels and you can probably find an empty window washer or oil container cut part of the side out. Work and its free.
  15. Thanks Condor
  16. My carbtune finally arrived. The bike still has the AIS. After removing the 4 vacuum plugs, do you have to plug the 2 AIS lines while synching? Thanks
  17. try your wife's clear nail polish
  18. This is a very interesting thread. Its hard to tell from the photo's the one side of the leaf looks like a metal clamp that allows the leaf to move. The other side i can't make out. Mine was a bolt. You had mentioned the trailer bounces. I was wondering if when the trailer comes back down and the weight of the loaded trailer causes a small amount of flex in the axle see my crude diagram. The flex may cause the tire to scuff as the axle flexes up and down? The trailer is rated for 2 or 3 times what your hauling if the extra leaf was taken out, the springs would take more of the load and you'd get less flex. Just a thought.
  19. This isn't the same trailor i have. Not to be disrespectful but the quality assurance of these trailers may not be to the standards of north america. I my case I had to buy a new castle nut because it was threaded crooked.
  20. Yes, their 8 inch. It's usually loaded, everything needed for camping including a bring your own bed. Too old for sleeping on the ground.
  21. I haven't the solution to your problem but you might try removing the extra leaf spring, it should help with the bounce when running lite. As suggested measure the end of the axle to tongue they should be the same on both sides. Lift the wheels off the ground and spin them, is there a wobble? Does the axle look straight? Also check the bed from corner to corner it also should be the same and be ridged so it can't move and go out of square. Also measure the front leaf mount to the front corner on each side, they sould be the same. As Goose said pressure is the least of your problems. For what its worth, I've been running 45-50 psi with no signs of wear after 20,000
  22. I cut the axle in half and welded a piece of square tubing (about 8" long) in the channel for support. Can't remember if it was 1" or 1 1/4". There's 3 pieces for the wideth I took 10" off one end of each, then redrilled the holes using the cut off pieces as a template. I also removed the 2nd leaf spring, its way overkill for the trailer If needed I can take some pictures. Hope this helps.
  23. How big is the dog? T-bags makes a pet carrier for smaller dogs.
  24. Eithers fine. I have the 8", bought the kit from harbor freight, it has over 15,000 on it, still has the original tires with no signs of wear. I grease the bearings each spring. The only thing I did was take 10" out of the width, so if the bike makes it though so will the trailer.
