  1. I've messed with lowering the front, lowering the back, raising the back with the leveling links and the narrow Avon on the front. One thing I always found is the bike really responds to changes. I was repeatedly amazed with the difference a seemingly minor change makes. Before the narrow tire and with my height the lowered front worked best for me. I ride solo with no air in the back shock and it settles a bit when I get on. The bike tracked great and would actually turn when I wanted. With a little air keeping the back up giving even less rake up front and it REALLY turned. Even with the stock height you can make some adjustments by changing the height in the back with different air pressure. The first time I dropped the bike was the first day I had it. No air in the shock and the wife on the back. With the back sagging it's real slow and heavy to respond. Stopped while finishing a turn and plopped over on the crash bar. Jerry
  2. I just did my bars last weekend. I used the Harley 1 inch clamps I found on Ebay. Check out Ebay item number 200221765457. This guy was the best price that I found for the heavy 3 piece type clamps. Jerry
  3. I guess opinions and desired feel vary. With the 404 Dunlops I tried the leveling links, then removed them and lowered the front 1/2 inch. I then went with the narrow Avon with the lowered front, raising the front back to stock a few days later. For me the narrow Avon and standard suspension height is the best feel out of everything tried. Jerry
  4. Larry I found this chart around here somewhere and found it useful to finally wind the thing out and discover what it will really do. Jerry
  5. Larry Just wind it out to the rev limiter. The rev limiter actually hits earlier then needed. The engine is good for more and some here have changed the limiter. My 07 hits the limiter at about 45 in first, 62 in second and 85 in third, regularly! Now it does sound like crap when you hit it so just get used to the RPM and shift just before. I used to want to add a tach but not anymore. Jerry
  6. Years back I had a 305 Honda that wouldn't run with a dead battery. We once took the battery out of my friends Pinto after it was running (should have fried something in the car but didn't) and wired it to the Honda with speaker wire. I rode it back home with the battery on the seat between my legs and the Pinto following. Jerry
  7. I had mine down a 1/2 inch in the front when I went to the narrower front tire. For me that didn't work. It had a sort of a nervous feel to it. I set it back to normal height and every thing is great. There is still a touch of the nervousness but not bad. Come to think of it I wonder if anyone else has noticed the slight hunting with a narrow tire. It seems to be from slight changes in the breese. Not really an issue tracking in strong winds just changes to the direction of slight breezes. I wonder if it's from the fork mounted fairing. Maybe the wide tire was Yamaha's method of changing that into heavy steering. Jerry
  8. Starrider The 06 seems to be different then our 07s. The IC will only change the intercom volume. One thing that kept me confused for a while is when you have a entertainment audio showing (radio, CD, AUX and such) the volume controls that audio level. If you have CB showing on the display the volume controls the CB volume and doesn't change the entertainment level. Hopefully I'm not the only one that took a while to figure this out. Did you have the CB display showing when you turned it all the way up? My 07 is no power house as far as speaker level but it is usable. For speaker level maybe check to see if the fader or balance is set one way or the other. This would be no help for a low headset volume since you no longer have those selections when set to headset. For both headset and speakers make sure that the bass and treble are not turned all the way down. If it is still very low it would help if possible to compare to another then take it up with your local dealer. Jerry
  9. There seems to be a difference with the 06 and my 07. My 07 doesn't have a mike gain in the CB selection. It does have an "IC" but it's intercom volume and is accessed by pressing the "SELECT" button. With my bad ears I need to set it about 15 and make sure my mic is close to my mouth. Any louder and I get other noises too. Jerry
  10. My 07 was doing that last winter. Everything on the audio control stopped working except the volume control. The problem was only there with the temperature in the 50's or lower. Alway worked in the afternoon when it was warmer. I figured the dealer would never find it if it worked when they had it. Dielectric grease did not fix it but unplugging and replugging would for a while. I did trace it to the connector between the control and the Clarion remote unit. I finally fixed it buy hitting the female contacts on the remote unit side with some WD40 and running a extra 22 gauge contact in and out to clean them. I used the grease after the cleaning and no problems since. Jerry
  11. Watch the button on the passenger CB radio push to talk switch. Mine fell off while washing the bike. Tried one more time to fall off soon after. Loctite works on that too. Jerry
  12. I got the video not long ago. I try during day to day low speed maneuvers. It has helped a bit on U turns and parking lots. I haven't gone out and set up to really practice. I signed up for a course early next month that works on low speed along with other things. And just in case I ordered the clamps for the crash bar reinforcement today. Jerry
  13. The owner's manual calls for a change at 600, 16000 and every 16000 miles after. Check level every 4000 miles. Some change it more then that but I won't. The manual calls for .21 quart. Jerry
  14. Al Here close by Tucson I did my 8000 service this weekend too. Changing the plugs bugged me, they looked perfect! Haven't brought myself to toss the old ones out yet. Another thing is getting the bike in the air and checking wheel and steering bearings. My kickstand needed lube, the controls levers would have except I did that 1000 miles ago when the clutch lever started clicking. The rear gear oil change isn't scheduled for the 8000 but check the level. I still need to pull the covers over the trunk and side bag latches and put some white grease on the contact points, the trunk is sometimes hard to open and won't fix itself (I have been waiting). This is also a good time to go around checking that all the bolts are tight. I changed my tires at 7000 mile after a run in with a nail and switched both to Avons. I found the front pinch bolt was loose. I had never checked that one before. Maybe the dealer or factory left it a bit loose but I'm keeping an eye on that one. Jerry
  15. That is a dual sport! Ride a little, push a little.
  16. They do go on sale from time to time but are rated at a lower sound output level. I once asked here if anyone had ever tried one but never got an answer. Sometimes you can get close to the Harbor Freight price on their horn for a Stebel. Jerrry
  17. I had the front down a 1/2 inch when I went to the narrower tire. It seemed a little too light to me and after about a week I took the drop back out of the front. I'm not sure just how much difference up or down with the narrow front but the tire change was a great improvement. I does feel a bit light tracking in the wind now but hasn't really been blown around anymore then before. Sure likes to turn. The bike is really a different animal now. Jerry
  18. You don't need to remove the back part of the fairing. Just move it forward out of the way so you can get the handle bars and upper clamp off. I put a short piece if 2X4 between the front of the frame and back fairing to keep it out of the way. Jerry
  19. Rokon has made these since the early 60's, maybe even before. The Tote Gote was a different bike and would go about anywhere with 1 wheel drive. My uncle was a dealer and I used to ride his every chance I got. I still would like to have either one of these around but if I had a choice it would be the Tote Gote. Much simpler, like a big mini bike. Evil handling but fun. Jerry
  20. My full face is tight in the trunk without a rack. I set it in upright. I saw someone the other day put one in laying on its side. Looked like a better fit that way. Jerry
  21. I keep forgetting to check, ever since I got the mac.
  22. Sounds like a problem of some sort. Mine works like others have mentioned. Click the set, click the accelerate one after the other. Just click, click without trying to hold them down at all. Doing that way I don’t have any delay. Jerry
  23. I think it’s something to do with marketing and how they are not common on the street. I had been riding for years but didn’t know about them. My wife popped up on day and said “Let’s get a Goldwing”. If Honda still made a four cylinder version I would have gotten it. I don’t care for the new Goldwings because I don’t think they look like a motorcycle. I do my own work and I like to be able to see an engine. I figured out the wife meant touring bike with a comfy back seat. I ended up doing an Internet search for touring bikes. The Kawa looked good (not the Ninja engine based one), too bad they don’t make them any more. I always wanted a Beemer but she didn’t like the looks of the LT and I didn’t like the complexity. I found out about the Ventures on the Internet and found this site. After lurking here a while I stopped by the local dealer and they had just put one on the floor. It was late January and turned out it was the very first 07 they had seen. Two days later it was still there and I drove it home. That is still the only one I have seen there. I don’t think Yamaha is trying very hard to get the word and the bikes out. It has a couple of issues. For me it was hard to deal with at low speeds, and then there’s that chirp. With some setup changes it is now a great handling bike, good warranty but nothing to fix and looks like a motorcycle. Jerry
  24. More power to him. I personally don't believe in the laws. I still would feel naked without one. Jerry
