  1. well had it backwards seals out oil. found info in manual.
  2. well took water pump apart. then got distracted. the seal between bearing and impeller on waterpump not the mechanical but the smaller one. lip to oil side or lip to waterside what am I keeping out. I think sealing waterside as will have pressure from impeller. cant find a good pic any where. also going to use drill press as a [dake] press for putting in mechanical seal found a conduit coupler that fits great made of plastic

    well started on waterpump rebuild today. got plastic off. bolts fought the whole way. then removed allen bolts on pump cover found po had used permatex glue took me 2hrs to get it off don't know how many times hit knuckles on frame. had metal impeller on pump. took back piece loose elbow would not come out of thermostat housing another hour lost. then hose clamps were all turned so couldn't use screwdriver. then ran out of propane in heater. removed thermostat housing and radiator hoses. looks like should change starter wires while there out in open. in house shivering now dam weather. why me why me

    first thing on honey due list is get bike back together. will start on it Monday. rebuild water pump, thermostat, hoses, clutch update. starter wire improvement, then put back rest back on. then start fixing cracks in plastic between riding. hope to beat last years miles by at least 1000 miles. need a smiley with bugs in teeth. o yea need to adj carbs better

    well this is it. 34 years on the job. this is my last day there. opening up a new chapter hope it will be as fun. cant do the heavy work any more. so now a part time trucker. leaving the road work for the younger ones. cant say the r word yet. had to give up being mechanic two years ago. moved to hwy tec.bla

  10. I ordered my parts from parts monster if you look at different years same # its a good part number. and behind number is a link to new part numbers. mine was a 83 year ordered all parts available. now turn on the heat so I can work on it. lol
  11. mine hadn't run in years when I got it. 2 years ago. last year we drove it down to Huston mo area. we loved it, plan on riding some distance this year also. if you think its stuck put in gear and rock it back and forth. I have about 2000 in mine now. all new parts. yours shouldn't be any way near that much. not to bad to work on and there is a wealth of knowledge here.
  12. good luck on getting cured odds are a lot better now a days. I see you have a ipers job. i'm thinking about retiring also. fighting a different kind of battle.
  13. got my parts today for water pump. used parts monster saved over 60.00 over local yamaaa dealer all factory parts. they just moved all there sites to one address pick what ya ride one location. good parts break down with price. even got factory thermostat

  15. so far found #3 hose replacement advance 5570450,auto zone a71651. that's off this site haven't tried it yet. doing the same thing if you get other hose numbers post on here would ya. any one out there with more info for first gens

  17. I have a propane confection heater but need to make a area to work on my bike. ttwo trucks in pieces to cycles 3 tool boxes and pile of lumber and tools every where o did I tell you I hord tools not kidding y'all..
  18. well got my upgrade kit from skydoc today now if it would just warm up. still waiting on my waterpump kit and thermostat with housing. wanting to change all radiator hoses also.
  19. today the previous owner handed me the owners manual for my bike. he had run into it going through his dads stuff. i was supprized the wiring diagrams were in the back of manual.
  20. well need to upgrade clutch or replace discs. as long as you drive normal it dont slip. wanting to pull trailer so it needs changed whats out there. cost is important no need throwing gold at old bike. that said will keep till not fixable.
  21. well drained the antifreeze. tested to -37 on a thextron tester. plastic nut turns by hand. dont care for that must need o-rings replaced. any way the tec shows a tool for seal at pump impeller shaft. looks like parts will run around 150.00. thats rebuilding waterpump,thermostat, upgrade impeller,gaskets. the antifreeze was still almost green. lol. now going to start another thread. if i have to work on it might as well upgrade clutch:yikes:
  22. my royal has a reserve. notch for key to turn it. pass foot rest covers it so good luck using it. its a 83. cant remember notch in side cover. after company leaves will have to look.
  23. where do you drain antifreeze at. to cold to mess around and will have to drain it to change thermostat anyway. are oem part numbers still good and what all needs changed for thermostat replacement. was hoping for a early start this year. should i replace waterpump while at it. 83 royal xvz1200:fishin:
  24. well started the bike today. let it sit and run in place snows to deep to move it and ice underneath noticed the temp was rising went to top of green just like summer. wanted to run a little hotter so i shut it down. puked antifreeze out of tank overflow. i think thermostat stuck. tested good this fall and last fall for temp-35. what ya think antifreeze cant go bad that fast can it.:confused07: what now.....
