R6 & De-link Brake Questions
Squeeze replied to luke000's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well, 5/8" IS the right Master for FJ1200 Calipers, but not for the blue Star R1's .... I never saw a 5/8" Master on a R1 or R6 -
R6 & De-link Brake Questions
Squeeze replied to luke000's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Those R1/R6 come with a 14mm Master. 5/8 " will work, yes, but 14 mm will give a better feeling at the Lever, 5/8" is kinda "digital" Brake Feeling for a Lot of People. -
Sounds pretty much like you're in Need of a Rebuild of the Master Cylinder at first.

Jonas, me thinks you're just set right with 4 Bikes in total. I have four also, and it makes perfect Sense ! :D I don't know if i can manage a Visit to US next Year. Depends if i can find the right Employees beginning next Year. It's not easy and there are not much of the right Guys available, but i'm working on it. I really hope to make it happen. Already started working on getting my fat a$$ into a Plane Seat also. You're absolutely right about the VMax, with upgraded Electronics, it got almost scary fast. I finally got my fat a$$ personal Best just under 11@200kph in October. Well, you gotta know, Cost of human Work is much more expensive per Hour in Germany, so investing in Technology which makes the Job easier, faster and more efficient in general gives a much better ROI than in other Countries, where Cost per Work Hour is not so expensive. Them respective Authorities here have a slim Budget too, but if it saves human Work Hours, every Investment calculates much easier and since they have the Carrier Vehicle (Unimog) in already in their Stable ...

Starter Clutch Mod
Squeeze replied to Dano's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well, i'm not Dano, but since we're managing Parts and Supply within the two of us during the current meagerness, i can say some Parts-Sets are available from him in the Moment. Yes, the Upgrade will fit 1Gen Ventures, MKI and MKII, as well as the 1Gen Vmax. We're expecting the Drought go away later this Year. -
Well, Guys, honestly, forget about the Dealers anywhere in the World know Feacts about a new Generation of a Model. Those that are interested in Yamaha Bikes for a longer Time know this already, all others, just believe it. Over here, and, as i know from the US Forums i attend also, usually informed Riders tell them Dealer what to expect and sometimes even, when it will come to their Sales Floor. Now, about the Don's original Question ... The '09 and up VMAX is generally a noisy Engine. On Idle, there a Lot going on inside the Motor on low RpM, be it the Startup Decompression Mechanism on the Cams, one Set of Cams is chain-driven as we're all used to, but the second Set is driven by Gears, third, the Slipper Clutch has some moving on all the Guts on Idle. That said, all the Noise subsides when you're taking off. The Tranny is quite on the Road, and on the naked Bike you'll hear a Lot other Noises before you'll some "Whine" or "unwanted Noise" from the Engine. There's a "huge" (at least for standard Bike and MY Taste) Touring Windshield available from Yamaha. I never heard a Rider complain about unwanted Noise even with that Shield. Some Riders expirienced buffeting, but that's something you'll allways have. People and their Gear are different, you can't please everyone. Don's absolutely right about the Style Dilema. But honestly, i for one don't car much. I don't like most of the Styling Elements of the 2Gen VMAX, i bought it anyway. That's because the Ride is absolutly awesome(in the whole true Meaning of the Word, and since i had my ECU reflashed, it's scary sometimes) and if i can't stand the "Look" anymore, i can change it. Completely, if necessary. Full Stop. The only Thing left to be said goes out to Yamaha: I ride a '09 VMAX from the beginning, more than 20 ooo km as of today within my limited Time. Some other VMAX Riders reported fifty thousand Miles and more and with no serious Problems. As we know, VMAX Riders do a Lot of abuse to their Rides, if they don't break it, it can be called bullet-proof with every Reason. The upgraded FJR1400 which is on the Horizon will be a good and sporty Ride and with the Cross Plane Crank as near as inline 4 can be at a V4, but it sure won't cut it for us (hardcore) V4 Guys. Period. Bring the already developed VMAX, Bike and Engine over to a 3rd Gen Venture and sell them !! !! I'd haggle out a Price with my Dealer and buy one, so would a Lot of others !! The Sales of the V4 Touring Bike as we know it today will go down more and more, to the Point where it won't sell at all, like Suzuki B-Kings, even if you give it away under Cost Price. Please, bring the Upgrade and open up the Way to the next Level, don't hand over the whole Market Segment to Honda and BMW !! (One last Thing to add, and i'm sure a Lot others won't see the Need in their big Tourer but make them Power Parts 100% compatible with the VMAX. I love my 190 Horses on the rear Wheel and i wouldn't like to give away one single Pony, big Tourer or not.)

This Knock is most likely the 6003 Bearing in the Clutch Pressure Plate. Nothing to worry about, it will last A LOT of Miles. If you going inside the Clutch, you can replace the Ball Bearing, but the Knock will come back again. It's because i kight not be the best Design Idea to put an axial Bearing under lateral Force.

wide rim for 1st gen
Squeeze replied to pmelah's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Gary, actually you'd increase Holeshot Performance. These are the Tire Circumferences: 1Gen VR - 140/90 R 16 - 2068 mm 1Gen Vmax - 150/90 R 15 - 2045 mm FJR 1300 - 180/55 R 17 - 1979 mm On 1Gen Vmax, you'll increase RpM at a given Speed by 420 switching from stock Tire to 180/55R17. That's why some of the souped up Maxxes are using a VR final Drive. In other Words, you're on the Way to create a Wheelie Machine with everything you did on Tweety plus converting to a 17". If you give me the current Specs, i could give Gear Data a Moment of Calculation and show you what it would change. -
wide rim for 1st gen
Squeeze replied to pmelah's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Gary, once in a while, i modify FJR 1300 Rims for fitting the 1Gen Vmax. Those are 3.5x17 front and 5.5x17 rear. Tire Sizes are 120/70R17 and 180/50R17. Front Rim is easy to mod, but getting a fitting Gear for the Speedo is a big Hassle due to the narrow Fork Leg Distance, but i got it done. Rear Rim is much more work and both Rims require a Lathe with at 460 mm turning Diameter or a Mill with a c-Axis which can take these Diameters securely. The fit of the rear Rim on 1Gen Vmax is almost identical to stock, 0 to 2mm Offset to the right. but you have to mill down the stock Caliper Bracket from 30 to 19 mm to get the Hub in the Swing Arm. I didn't look at the FJR Specs and compare them to the 1Gen VR, but the FJR is faster than a 1Gen Vmax and we get these Rims through TueV-Inspection and penciled into the Bike Papers, which is huge over here. These Rims are great, opens a whole new World in Tire Selection, more grippy, better wet Grip. The only downside is, the Bike gets lower and the maximum lean Angle is a Problem for some. Vmax-Guys counteract this with longer Shocks. -
1st Gen Venture with EFi?
Squeeze replied to twigg's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The R1 COP's are low Resistance .... 1,19 to 1.61 Ohm at the primary. This won't work with a 1Gen TCI, but Dingy is sporting a Ignitech-Box, which can adress these COP's without going up in Smoke. -

Wiggle on the Starter Button and maybe your Lights will come back -
That's right. The big Ball Bearing outside the angled Gear will go south first.

1st Gen Venture with EFi?
Squeeze replied to twigg's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yes it would. But the overall Height of the Assembly will be a Problem, and for the Vmax-Airbox, the Battery has to become smaller or relocated. I have a half-fabbed Set of TB's lying in a box. Connections to the V-Boost and Airbox is done as well as the Collars for the Vacuum Connections of the Diaphragm Chambers. Fuel Rail is planned through, but not fabricated. Throttle Linkage between left and right Side is planned, Parts are there. Throttle Cable Connection has to be planned. Unfortunately, no Time at all to tinker with it.
