Anyone recognize this part?
Squeeze replied to superscouser's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Sorry, but that ain't no Sentence which would make feel hurt. I don't drink too much Beer during the Week and seldom on Weekends. But i'm all in for Beer on a Meeting. :D a Lot :D But if you feel so anyway, i'll try and get some Michelob and drink that instead of a Glass Jack Daniels/Coke :D- 10 replies

This could be the "round" Part of #37 in the Fiche .. http://images.powersportsnetwork.com/fiche/images/YAMAHA/1991/Motorcycles/438_oilfilter.gif I'm not excatly sure if that's the Part which comes togehter with the Oil Level Sensor, but if it's not, there migth be a Cup around the Sensor which look pretty similar too.- 10 replies

my 1988 not idling right
Squeeze replied to motorhead704's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Spraying Carb Cleaner in all the Ports you can find might not be a bad Idea for the "Air"-Side of the Carbs, but you need to extend your Effort to the fuel Side of the Carbs. Put some Cleaner into the Fuel, be it Sea Foam or Injection Cleaner, whatever good Brand Product you can find might help cleaning out the small Passages and Pilot Fuel Jets. -
Good Morning Bob, What will be in that Pile ? I mean, if there's something worth it, i'd glad to pay the Shipping (if you won't mind putting it in a Box a carry it to the USPS Office) and make a Donation to the Site also. I.e. i'm looking for the Rubber Pieces for the right Side Passenger Board. I'm also missing one of the Rubber Covers on the Top of the Fork Legs.

my 1988 not idling right
Squeeze replied to motorhead704's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Sounds like it's developing a lean Condition when the Bike is getting hotter. That could be either a Vacuum Leak on the the Carb Boots or the Fuel Pilot Jets are somewhat clogged. Take something flammable, like Brake Cleaner or Starter Spray and carefully spray it around the Carb Boots when the Bike is on Idle, one a a Time. If the RpM rises, there's a Vacuum leak. A Sea Foam Cure might be in Order anyway, just because of the unknown Condition of the Carbs. -
skydoc_17 or www.Partshark.com Some say the 2nd Gen Gaskets are better to work with but if the Bike is Kind of Bare, it shouldn't make much of Difference.

Hey Scotty, the Stator isn't supposed to move. It has to sit tight, real tight and centered to the Rotor. -
Second Gear Fix - Part Numbers
Squeeze replied to gaillarry's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I'm sorry to say, but there's no "Kit" form Yamaha. http://images.powersportsnetwork.com/fiche/images/YAMAHA/1991/Motorcycles/438_middledrivegear.gif I'd definitely replace the C-Clips #6 and the Thrust Washer #5, the Holder #1, the Spring#2 and the Driven Cam #3(because we had at least two Members with this Part #3 broken, these Parts are from a later Model Vmax and updated), replace the 2nd Gear Shift Fork and undercut the Dogs and their mating Surfaces on the 1st to 3rd Gears. Of Course, a close Inspection on all other Parts and Bearings in there is in Order to catch worn out Parts before bringing everything back together. -
Mike, honestly, forget about upgrading the IE, download Firefox in the latest Version and you'll have anything you need and it's somewhatsaver too.

Squeeze replied to Tartan Terror's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sounds pretty much like one of the three Bolts Holding the Stator in Place has worked itself loose. The Head touches the Flywheel and the Bolt Heads of the Starter Clutch. If so, nothing too worry too much about -
I forgot to add ... From my (based on industrial Applications) Point of View, i'd ride a second new Belt with the first Set of Pulleys, but never a thrid new Belt with these old Pulleys. The old Pulleys will eat up the Belt very soon.

Handling on my Venture
Squeeze replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The Races should be a drop in fit. Nothing should apply Pressure on the Diameter. Both Races should be glued in the Seat, using Loctite 648 at a Cure Time of 2 Hours minimum. I allways time the Job this Way to let them cure over Night.I uses two thick Aluminium Washers and a long and Thick Bolt to hold the Races in Place during cure Time. I also used the Tripple Tree with the old Bearings still mounted in the Past, works just as fine for a Jig. -
Handling on my Venture
Squeeze replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Using a Dremel on the Seat is the easiest Way. I've learned all this from a well known Suspension Specialist in my local Area. He modifies the outer Bearing Races by grinding them a Tad down on the Circular Grinder and he's using a patented upper Bearing with a double Height Nut pressed on to the inner Race, hereby taking out the Slack between the two Nuts. Of Course the Price equals the world wide Patent .... A Set is 120 Euros or so. But it's not necessary, opening the Seat does work just as good and when you get the Steel Replacement Washer from Skydoc_17, which comes in Place of the stock rubber POS, you're set. -
Hey Goose, i had my own bad Experience with Koso Products, but that was 4 or 5 Years ago. I use a Acewell Instrument (2852 iirc) finally and it's much better than the Koso Crap. Don't know if those are sold in US, though.

Handling on my Venture
Squeeze replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yes, i've brought this up two or three Times in the Past. The Problem on all Steering Heads is, the Seats are manufactured before they're welded to the Frame. The Welding Process causes the Seats to take a unround Shape. This goes for Steel Frames as well as Aluminium from all Manufacturers all over the World. If you force a outer Race into that Seat, the Race will take the same oval Shape as the Seat is. This causes the Problem while adjusting the Bearing Slack on tapered Roller Bearings like we use in our Ride. On one Point the Bearing is almost too tight and when you tighten the Nut just a tad more, the Bearing will feel loose again. There's not a definite Spot to find because if a Roller is resting on a high Spot it will feel tight, if you turn the Steering the Roller walks away from the High Spot and probaly end up "in the Air" and another Roller takes on a "high Spot". If you make enough Room inside the Bearing Seat to not Force the Race in the existing oval Shape, the Race will stay in perfect round Profile and this will give you a much more defined Adjustment. You tighten the Steering and it will stay at your adjusted Point, because all the Rollers have the same Contact with the outer Race. This Problem causes a Lot of Grief on the 1Gen Maxxes on high Speeds. They start to wobble, caused by one or the other Reason, but the Steering Head being tight on one Point and loose on another escalates the Wobble, some Times to a Point of no Return. The Bearings on the 1Gen Vmax and all Ventures '82 to 2010 are all the same, so is the Problem. -

Condor, that sounds pretty much like you'll in for new Steering Head Bearings. Industry Type is 32005X/Q and 32006X/Q. Not a funny Job, but well worth the Effort. Watch teh Seal on the lower Bearing while you pulling it off. You can improve the Handling tremendously if you decide to grind the Bearing Seat a little bit bigger, so much that the outer Races just fall in Place and glue them in Place with Loctite 648. -

Parts for a German Venture
Squeeze replied to GAWildKat's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well Dan, there's nothing to be afraid of with the Max. Brakes are absolutely outstanding. ABS is working very well too. No Wheelies on full Throttle, almost no black Marks on the Road, just pure Thrust. Only Problem with full Throttle at a lean Angle is, the rear Tire likes to kick out once in a while. If that's happening and you gone too far, a nice a 8 Yards High Sider is to come in the very near Future ... i'd love to be able to control a nice Power Slide out of the Corners, but my Gut and the little Amount of grey mass in the Noggin' constantly keep on preaching me ... Don't do it ... Don't do it ....:crackup:The Bike is, without any Doubt, up to the Job but i'm afraid to rip it fully open at heavier Lean Angles. It's a Lot of Fun with the Venture, but with that low Amount of Power and the given Weight, it's like a Piece of Cake and i'm not having any bigger Problems running with my Vmax Buddies through the Twiesties, even two up. The '09 is a much different Story, 200 Horses create a Lot of pull on the rear Wheel .... Yes Randy, a bobsled Run is a very good Comparison. Especially since the Road wasn't wide enough for two Cars to pass each other on several Spots.- 17 replies

Parts for a German Venture

Wow, those are impressive Numbers too !!! :happy34: You've been through half of Europe with that Lenght of the Ride. Here's what i did while running down to South-Tyrol on Thursday. http://www.timmelsjoch.com/en/extras/gallery/overview.aspx# They've opened the Timmelsjoch Pass Road just on Monday before. It was impressive to ride between Snow Walls left and right of the Road at the Height of 4.5 to 6 Yards. Imagine yourself racing towards a Snow Wall, brake hard, corner and full Throttle out of the Corner only looking at the next Snow Wall and the next extra sharp 180 Degree (or more) Hair Pin turn ... :whistling: There was the Mendel, Tonale, Reschen plus countless others ... some of them which the Roads where even only 2 Yars wide with 50 Meters between the Turns ... All in all, i did only 1508 km/940 mls from Thursday noon to Sunday 6 pm. But i did it quite fast :crackup: Still analyzing the Engine Data i aquired, 12000 Recordsets ...- 17 replies

I'm terrible busy these Times, at work and working on my Bikes. Did a 4 Days Alps Run with my fellow Maxxers last Week. Looking forward to hit the Drag Strip with the '09 on Sunday 20th. I'd love to improve my Times to upper Tens. I'm too fat and my starting Capabilities are worse than my Grandma's ... We'll see. If nothing improves, i'll have two other Drag Days in August and one in October and my Drag Career will be over. Just put a second Clutch Spring in the '09 and it makes World of Difference in Clutch Feeling. Much crispier Bite and much more defined grabbing Point.

Parts for a German Venture
Squeeze replied to GAWildKat's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well, of Course i was riding the '09 Max ... My first real Outing on Mountain Passes. The Bike did very well, I'm able to ride it to 85 to 90 Percent of it's Abilities. The last 10 Percent, well, these are the Lean Angles i'm mostly afraid of ... Especially ripping the Throttle wide open at those Angles. We've been hooliganing though Passes in the Area on Friday, 350 km/220 mls with 8 Bikes and we had a BLAST !!!!- 17 replies
