I'd check the Shift lever and all the Pivot Points first. Lube all of them and look at the Angles of the Knuckles, if the are not at a 90 Degree Angles, their don't make shifting easier.

clutch issues...again!
Squeeze replied to Trader's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
There's either no Slack at the Brass Pivot Point of the Lever, the Brass Piece is sticking in the Lever, you put an non exact fitting Aftermarket Lever on the Master or the Relief Hole in the Bottom of the Reservoir in the Master is clogged. Since the Time Frame is rather large, i'd suspect it's not the Relief Hole, but the Lever puts a little Pressure on the Piston and doesn't open enough to open the Relief Hole. -
Or probably Chewing Gum Paper instead of the proper sized Fuse ?

I run a HID in my 1Gen Vmax since Years and have very good Results plus no Problems at all. Burning down the Wiring sounds a Lot more like there has been something wrong with the Install. The Ballast uses less Current than incandescent Bulbs.

Horrible Howling
Squeeze replied to a1bummer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I'd probably suspect the front Headers too. On the 1Gen Vmax these are double Wall Pipes and when the inside Pipe gets loose, it makes a terrible sound, as if Motor has a serious Problem with all Main Bearings and Con Rod Bearings. Makes your Heart stop for a Moment or two. I'd never thought about the front Headers on the 1Gen Venture, but i'd suspect these are similar. -
Well Don, i can't add anything to what has been said already, but be assured, i'll keep you in my Thoughts and sure keep my Fingers crossed for a positive Outcome for you.

Sure, the only Difference is that 2Gens have no Center Stand, you need a Lift to bring it up in the Air. A Carbon_One Adapter is an Option for that ...

The Hi/Low Switch in the left Handle Bar is causing a Voltage Drop. That's common Scenario and the Ballast doesn't get enough Voltage to start the Bulb. Check and clean the Switch Contacts, or better just use the stock wiring for operating the Hi/Low Portion of the Bulb and rewire the Balast direct to the Battery.

I don't know what hp standard is used in Canada, but there a Lots of them. There's STD, bhp, SAE-hp, DIN-hp, french-cv, japanese-hp and Lots more of them. They all differ somehow, i.e. the '09 Max is rated 197 hp in US and 200 (DIN-)hp in Europe. Depends, under several other Things, on how the "standard" describes necessary Things must be running or not. I.e Waterpump, Generator and on and on ...

Sure, i'm looking forward to. I'll answer your PM and give you my Numbers, my Cell# is my Profile anyway. If you need the updated Starter Clutch, we'll get it done. If you just want to drop by and we have a big Schnitzel together, i'd be happy about that too. No Problem. If you're somewhat into Cars, i'd suggest you think about visiting the Museums we have here. Both, Mercedes and Porsche are a Blast to visit.

Sudden new rear end noise on decel
Squeeze replied to Grisolm1's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
It's not a Design Flaw. It's abuse on already used mechanicl Parts. We have this happen on the 1Gen Maxxes once in a while, maybe one per thousand Bikes per Year. It's repairable, but a the Price of used Pumpkin in US, i wouldn't bother with it. -
Ah Crap Now the starter clutch
Squeeze replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well, i admit that I'm biased, but Dano can take of your Problem and once you've done you can forget about the Starter Clutch. Except .... Someone else will talk about a bad sound coming from the Motor or a not starting Engine when it should. I recently had a Guy which had his long awaited Drag Day ruined by the Starter Clutch ... Greg, as in understand you'll be in southern Germany over the next Weeks. Why don't you come over to my Place and we'll do the Mod right here on the Spot. Takes 3 to 5 Hours all in all, depending on how your Rig and the Hack is set up. -
83 carburator issues - idle increases
Squeeze replied to mshowe's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Increasing Idle or slow Idle Decrease when coming to a Stop is usually a Vacuum Problem or lean Condition. Carefully spray something flamable like Brake Cleaner around the Carb Boots and Rubber Plugs while the Motor is on Idle. Only work onone at a Time, if the RpM increase, you found the Culprit. If you don't find anything leaky, the Seafoam will help your Case. -
As a Work-Around, you could store a Link to your Favorites like this ... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/search.php?searchid=2045150 which will show you all the Threads you started or this, which will show you all Posts you placed http://www.venturerider.org/forum/search.php?searchid=2045151 I took the Links right out the Statistics Tab in your personal Member Profile. Of Course, you need to visit the Members Page/Statistics to get his Links fro there. Not exactly what you ask for, but easier than searching every Time you like to see the Results.

Sounds a bit like a Sensor or Sensor Signal Problem. The Sensor is located in the final Drive. You might check the Wire and the respective Connectors first.

Dead Clutch, second time.. argh
Squeeze replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Clutch Leather means Friction Plates Changing out the Seals in the Master may be a good Idea, because Yammi says replacing those every two Years. However, it won't solve your Problem. You're abusing the Clutch and therefore it will start burning down like the last one you showed us. Even a Lock-Up Clutch won't help you in Way, because you're riding in the Friction Zone a Lot and this burns down the Friction Plates. Period. Seriously and it isn't meant in any offending Way. What you're doing with the Clutch is worse than doing constant Burn Outs without knowing how to do them right. If you can replace the Clutch Plates on your own, why bring it to the Dealer ? I'd bet some Money that there's nothing wrong with the Bike. The only Thing "wrong" is the Way you use it. As i said, if i'd be you, i'd put a Spare Set pre-soaked Friction Plates in the Side Bag, when the Clutch starts to fail, i'd break out the Tools and the new Parts and just replace it where you're st®anding. There's nothing to cry or whine about, just get it done and be a happy Camper again. -
Hey Patrick, would you please be so Kind and sent me your Shipping Adress ?? :D I'm sorry for taking me so long, but Things are not that funny at the Times over here.

Dead Clutch, second time.. argh
Squeeze replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well, what's wrong with putting a Spare Set of Clutch Leathers in the Saddle Bag and change it right on the Spot ? On a 1Gen Max with rear Sets, i'll do it in under fifteen Minutes .... Tell the Dealer they shall put the new Gasket on the Cover and use a Silicone on the Engine Side. Saves the Gasket in 98 out of a hundred Times. Or you learn how to do it yourself right now. -
Just to add this ... The '09/10 VMAX already sports a very good ABS, freaking awesome R1 Brakes and a Lot of Things needed for a big Tourer which will outdo a Wing in a Lot of technical Matters. Power and Punch is a no brainer even with calmer Cams and a more tourer oriented Engine Setup. The rear Subframe is boltet on, so its just a Matter of making up a stiffer Subframe to accomodate a bigger Tank and carry a heavy Trunk. The Front End is just fine, add a Fairing and some more electronic Gizmo's and your big in the Business. That's what they're aiming at, don't know if they can make it happen with the economic Dump they took and take.

I'll hopefully meet him on August, 7./8. in Hockenheim at public Drag Race Days. Really looking forward to, he already modified his Max to right a above 200 rwhp. He'll show us poor european slow Pokes how to ride fast on the Strip... :happy34:

Sorry, yes, Goose, you're right about the full Thread in the Fork Leg. I mixed it up with other Forks i worked on recently. Must be the Heat Wave we're suffering, makes the Brain work slowly and finally it's dried out ...
