since the Stock Rim is only 3.5 Inches Wide, thats 87 and change in Millimeter. There is no small Car Tire in the near Range. Probably a 135mm wide would fit. It Should be with a lower Widt/Height-Ratio to get it mounted on the Rim. So the Tire Size might be a 135/70 R 15H or 145 R 15 H. But sincerly, i would suggest a wider Rim.

fuel pump relay 83 standard
Squeeze replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hey Tim, the Fuel Pump's two Wires are Ground and Plus. If the Pump is a working while the Relay is not in Place, the Voltage has to come from somewhere else. I think the 'new' Wireing Harness you mounted is rewired to get the Pump running without the Relay in Place. This could be done nearly everywhere in the Harness between both Ends. But anyway, wherever it has been done, there is access into the Harness Harness needed. So if you inspect the Harness you will find the Point the Bridge has been made. I think you checked the L/B Wire from the Relay Connector to the Pump's end if there is zero Resistance ? Also, you can the Relay outside the existing Harness, if you put Ground and +12 Volts from a Battery to the Relay, you should be able to measure 12 Volts on the Output of the Relay for 5 Seconds when the Plus Contact is attached. So this outside Checking of the Relay needs a Wire from +12 Volts to the Contact where the R/W Wire goes, a Wire from negative Battery Post to the Contact where the black Wires plugs and the DMM one Side to the L/B Contact of the Relay, the other End of the DMM on the negative BatteryPost. Then hold the R/W Wire to the positive Battery Post and read the DMM, setted on DC-20 Volts Range. You should read 12 Volts for some 5 Seconds. As i was thinking about the Possibilities, why the Pump can stop when you attach the Relay, i came to a very minor Conclusion, that maybe, you connected the Pump in wrong Position of the Connector. The Pump will possibly work, even when there is Plus on the Ground lead and nothing on the other End. The Pump could find something like Ground Potential inside and start to run. Not good but, run. So, once you bring up Plus on the End where really Ground should be, there is Plus on one End and ghost Ground on the other, the Pump works. If you plug the Relay, there is Plus on both Ends and the Pump stops. Just a wild Thought and way out the Box, but nevertheless a very small Possibility. -
I don't want this Thread into something more or less political. But, these Politics are Part of all Consumer Prices. Our Government has an Attitude since 12 or 15 Years in this Matters. I don't care anymore about that. I even make some Money through it, because we are working on the Netherland's Atlantic Dam's since 5 Years and this not going to stop. Nearly the whole Netherlands are below Sea-Level and if they don't do anything about their Dams Heights and Strongeness, the rising Sea-Levels will pull the whole Country in the Sea. They would be completly gone in 2038. The US Government did not totaly deny the global Warming, but Prs. Bush said, the US Economy and their People are his Mission, not the Weather. I don't blame Al Gore and his Friends or their political Friends. He has a Mission and everybody who hears his Words, can hopefully think about it on his/her Own. And if his only Mission would be, rising 50000 Bucks for an Hours Speak instead of 20000. I don't care. The global warming is a Fact, nobody can or should deny that. Also, the Question about who and where has more or less Effect on that Warming is worthless. If it's only the the normal Life Cycle of our Planet or the Actions, taken or not taken by Mankind? I don't know and i don't care. Only Thing is, we have to do something against this. If we can have a Effect on this, ok, lets give us a Try. If we can't make a Change happen, OK, but we tried to. If we can make another Storm like Cathrina NOT happen, a Lot of Lives are saved and nobody needs to stay in a Barn for Months. I do not need to tell you Folks in US about Thunderstorm, flooding Rain for Days, Snow in Summer, Summer in the Winter and so on.... you all know that by yourselves. I do not want to blame anyone for this. If it the Vehicle Pollution, the AC in warm Regions, the Fridges, the Heatings ... i don't care. I think our Children do not need to be born in a World we did destroy somehow and we do know about our bad Habbits and the changes this happens to have on our Environment. What will i answer my Niece when she askes me sometimes in the Future, why the Heck, did you not do anything against this Mess you and the Elders made? In Fact, i don't know how to Answer this Question and of Course i'm anything else than an active Environmentalist or voting Green Party. I don't like their Habbits, Behaviour and anything they represent. But i, just for myself, will try to do my Best that my Part is going to clean up. I will ride my Bikes and my V8-Pickup like it did, because it's Fun, i love it and i won't give up. But there are more things to do. Other Things. First Step is, i plan on a 20 KWp Photovoltaic-Plant on my Roof. Will cost me a Lot of Money, ROI should be in 12 to 15 Years, but i don't care. If this Plant works out, i will definatly bring up some more of this. Our Politics are going to shut down our nuclear Powerplants over the next 30 Years, they will need to produce more conventionell Power, natural Gas, Cole ... Hey good Idea, that will help the global Warming of Course ... But me, i will grin on my own Plants and think, no, not because of me, i've done something... just a little Piece, but i've done something.... and let the overwhelming Sun work for me. And maybe, if my Niece asks the Million Dollar Question i'm able to point on my Roof and say 'I can't speak for the Others and what they have done, but look what i've done!'

Hi Tim, those Voltages seem to be right. Biggest good News is that the Voltage changes and this is how the they're supposed to. Did you try to measure the other Wires, if there are the Voltages/Restistance is like they should be ? R/W Wire to Ground - System(Battery)-Voltage (some 12Volts DC) B black Wire to the Battery Positive Post - System Voltage L/B Wire Blue/Black is the Output of the Relay - should bring System Voltage when Relay is connected and Enigine is running or 5 Seconds after setting the Ignition Switch in ON-Position. What bugs me, is, according to the Wireing Diagram i have, the Fuel Pump can not run if the Relay is not in Place. That's a common Function, on all Bikes with electric Fuel-Pump for Safety Reason. Did i understand that right, that your Pump is working fine until you connect the Relay ? -
Well, Ethanol isn't Milk anymore, but .... we have updated Law since last Year, to save the Environment. They now have to mix at least 4 Percent Bioproduced Fuel or Diesel in our Gas and also Diesel. Diesel-Engines is a lot bigger Market here than in US. Guess what happens ? We do not have anything near of the needed cultivable Land to bring up the Volumes needed to hold up the Law. Neither of our european Neighbors do have, they have same or similiar Law to obey. OK, so what would you do if you can't obey the Law by buying in Country ?? Buy it somewhere else on the World. Logic as this is the nearest and only Option. But ... We buy now in Malaysia. OK, no Problem with that. But Malaysia also did not have enough Land to grow the Plants in such an emerging Market. So, what do they do ? They burn down their Rain Forrest to extend cultivable Land and produce what those stupid Europeans want to buy from them. Picture that. Of Course, this is all in the Name of lowered Pollution, Save the Planet, global warming Gases, you name it .... As for the Milk, here in Europe, Milk is the daily used Product, which has the utmost Miles travelled on it.

Well, it is like this Guy stated. Works for him, might work for you. 2 Problems on a Venture. The Rim-Width is very small so, you can't get a real fat one on the Rim. I think a 155 mm wide Tire would be teh biggest i would choose. 2nd Problem is the Rims, technically the Humps of a MC Rim and a Car Rim are different and this may cause Problems. I know several Guys, with, here so called Streetfighter Conversion. They moved single sided Rear Swingarm from the early Fireblade to their GSX-R or similiar Bikes. They used wider Rims from Cars for the Wheel. Biggest Rim i know this Way is 8.5 Inches Car Rim with a 260 M/C Tire. There tis he same 'Problem' with unmatching Humps. I did not hear anything bad from one of them. If you think over trying this, go to a Tire Dealer and look out for a fitting Tire with very flexible Sidewalls. Should be found found mostly on more sportyer Tires. This will help in cornering the Bike. You need to feel the Sidewals moving, because there is no other Way telling which one would be better.

Yes, this is the basic Description of the Relay Function. Can you measure a Voltage (AC!! Setting on the DMM) ?? That would be one Post of the DMM to Battery Plus, the other End to the grey Wire ? AC Setting because the DC-Signal is intermitting and could be seen as a AC with rectangled Shape of the Signal. The AC setting will give you a better Sensivity. -
Sorry, but i disagree If it's the Bearing on the Crankshaft, then undo the Oilpan, the Oilrig and then open the Bolts on the Rod. If it's the upper Bearing, then undo also the Head and take the Piston out. Should be manageable, while the Engine in Place. OK, it might be a hassle this Way, but it is doable. Dismounting the Engine is also not just a 48 Minutes Job.

So fast I am losing parts!!!
Squeeze replied to uthpda's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I'm a bit confused about the Words you're using ... Could you Please, in further Reference, use the Term 'it was blown off' or 'delaminated by the Acceleration' or 'the Parts mounting couldn't stand the Speed i was going' or something else in this Line of Arguments ? imho, 'I am losing parts!!!' refers to other Brands which are not meant here. :rotf::rotf: Sorry, on your initial Question, i have nothing to give. -

Squeeze replied to helomech's topic in General Tech Talk
- add four Floater-Sets, which come with new Valve Seats, their O-Rings and the Valves themself - add the Seals in the Carb Bowls - add the Rubbers in the Carb Bowls - at least the tiny O-Rings on the Idle Mixture Screws - eventually the Springs the Idle Mixture Screws - eventually the Idle Mixture Screws also -
Hi, i'm glad that could get it back together. Here's a Pic of a Vmax Switch i've taken apart. The Slider is the white Plastic

Well, i don't know how to say ... i really do not want to take the Winner's Pot from MBrood, but .... Ok, forget about it, i'm really happy that your back on the Road :cool10: -
Hi, i'm not familiar with this Lock and the Switch, but i think there is missing a Piece. On the right Pic, at the Pin are two flatted Spots, there should a some how round Piece of Plastics fit onto, which make the Contacts between those Copper Points on the Switchplate. The Contacts themselves are also made out of Copper Sheet and locked to the Plastic Piece similiar like the Contacts on every Connector on the Bike. There should also be a Spring and probably a small Isolatorboard between the Copper and Plastic. The Brass Piece seen on the right Pic isn't the One which makes the Contacts. If nobody else chimes in, i could take a Pic of a Vmax-Switch to show what i mean. But that would take at least 18 Hours from now on.

Venture and VMax crankshaft
Squeeze replied to Venturous Randy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Buy the Max .... :D :D Ok, let's get serious. The Crankshaft of the '86 to '93 is the Crankshaft which Yammi developed for the Vmax. You can check the IPC and will find the Parts No. with 1FK in front. But, normally you won't need a Crankshaft. The upper Bore on the Con Rods are the Culprit. The Oil-System on this Point is not the Best and there is not enough Material an the Rods to hold the Boring round. Once there is one Sitation with overrevving, the Boring will extend and a ticking sound begins .... 3 Months later the Knocking will be heard louder and louder. Time to change the Rods .... all 4 Rods of Course. -

Hi Tim, i'm really sorry for your Loss in that Fire and i'm happy that you weren't hurt more. This could have been a really bad Incident. As for the Voltage. Do you think that your Car's Battery will supply other 12 Volts than your Bike's Battery does ? Somehow brighter 12 Volts ? Sorry couldn't resist ... -
Hey, good Comment so far. The unsynched Carbs should not be the big Problem at this Time. Synchronsation only applies from Idle up to around 2500 RpM. Above that, the Butterflies are opened far enough, that any remaining Differences are not disturbing the Function of the Carb-Subsystems. Do you need to utilize Choke for starting the cold Motor ? At what RpM is the Idle now ? Normally it should be around 1000 RpM. Does the Motor holding the Idle you setted, or is it going up and down ? As long as the Clips on the Jet Needles aren't set to the very bottom Notch, they should not affect the Consuption that far. Now, if you smell unburned Gas, this can be either a overflowing Carb or no/weak/bad Spark. I think, i'd go for checking the Plugs as the next Step. Next Step would be checking and, i'm afraid to say, and possibly adjusting Float Levels. If the Level is too high, the Carbs need to be dismounted and splitted again. Also, of Course, the Floater Valves should be checked again. I read a Posting here, somebody did Place one Carb at a Time in a Glas, without the Bowl on it and filled the Glas with Fuel, this Way you can see the Floater moving and can adjust the Fuel Level against the Mark on the opposite Side of the Carb. That's by far the the easiest Way to do that, what i know so far. If you put a Hose on the Fuel intake of the Carb, you can actually blow some Air with your Mouth in it and determine if the Valves securely closes. If you're were able to access a Thermometer, as i mentioned before, it could be very helpful in resolving this Issue.

Hi, first off, check the Temperatures on the Exhaust-Pipes. Of Course you have to ride some Miles for heating everything up to normal Conditions. If you have a cheap, infrared Measuring Device in your Shop, that the Best to use this. Check each Pipe just on the Outlet of the Head. This gives you a Indication, if the Cylinders are working or not. If all the Temperatures are similar, then all Cylinders work, if one is more warm than the others, there is a Chance that this Cylinder is running lean. If there is a drop on one Cylinder, there is one Culprit hidden. One or two Plugs can be fouled during Riding under the previous Conditions. What exactly do you mean when you say you cleaned the Carbs ? Ok, you took them apart, took the Diaphragm Bowls off. Also the Floater Bowls ? Did you check only the Main Jet or also the Jets behind the rubber Plugs ? Did you measure the Float Hight ? Where are the Clips on the Jet Needle setted, seen from the Top, there should be 5 or 6 Notches ? Did you check the Floater Valves ? In what Conditions are the Idle Mixture Screws, is everything on Board, there should be a O-Ring, a Washer and Spring on every Screw, seen from inside to outside. How did you synch the Carbs after Mounting ? Just give us some Answers and we will try to Help.

Hi, i'd never opened a Virago Engine, but from my Point of View, it could be either the Shift Rachet Mechansim, which should be virtually the same as on our Bikes, or the Gears should be the Culprit.

Hey, i'm sorry to hear that, but if you really want a Schuberth Helmet, i check it out and i would send it over the Pond. Shipping could be handled a lot cheaper than the Standard Rates. The Sizes may be a bit smaller than labeled, but once you broke the Helmet in, it will fit like Glove. I have and have had 4 Schuberth's, i bought the first one to fit me in the Shop only. 3 Months later, i almost could turn it around my Head. That was my bad Judgement and a worse Sales Rep too. Now, on my last Deal, i bought a S1Carbon, Size 57/58 instead of 60/61 which was the first. Got a bit squeezed for 2 Hours, did play with the Inserts a Bit and i am HAPPY now. The Inserts are detacheable and come in different Sizes. If you wear long Hair for first 3 Months of the Season and then move over to a shaved Head, all you need is to buy new Inserts. The Shell and inner Foams stay the same, just the Inserts are different Sizes and, of Course, washable too. But, of Course, you need the Head to fit in a Helmet, a 'Schuberth Head' might not fit to a Arai-Helmet ot to Shoei or HJC and vice versa.

No top end
Squeeze replied to Burninator's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hi, i mostly agree with you. But don't forget that the Mixture is lean. If you ride under these Circumstances a Lot, there is a fair Chance that your Plugs and/or one or more Pistons will be burned.- 8 replies

Going 'Neutral'.
Squeeze replied to NLAlston's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hi Nathan, slipping Clutch and not properly released Clutch are two different Things. If the Clutch Lever is depressed, the Clutch ist locked by the six Springs or the Diaphragm Spring on the Clutch Basket. If the Spring, the Plates are worn or there is a wrong Oil in it, the Clutch starts to slip. If you are not able to shift to Neutral, the complete Opposite happens. You are pressing the Clutch-Lever, the obove mentioned Springs are compressed by the Slave and the Clutch Assembly disengages the Crankshaft from the Transmission. So, generally, if you're not able to shift or there could be someting wrong with either the ClutchMastercylinder, the Slave, the Shift-Mechanism, Shift Drum, Shift Forks or the Gears themselves. And, most usual, the Linkage of the Shiftlever are worn or loose and the Linkages are not set to the Best Angles to each other, which results in first Place in a sloppy Feeling on the Lever and in second Place in not proper Action on the Rachetmechanism, which moves the Shift-Drum. I think most of the older Bikes have a Lot of Freeplay on the Axle of the Shift Lever, which needs to corrected. I gave the Lever a bigger Bore and made a fitting Collar out of T6 Aluminium on the Lathe and got a wonderful Result. Resetted all the Links to proper Angles and was happy after 1.5 Hours of Work.- 6 replies
