... before towing on any Distance

Yeah, you're right, but in this Case ... it WAS the Trigger
-
Nope, only when Don chooses to move the Smilies-Frame from right Side of the Input Box to somewhere else in the Template. This would make the Input Box wider.

I've never read this, but i know it's true from my own Expirience. This Setup will damage a Lot of the Innards of your Tranny. First Thing which will come up is the big Ball Bearing on the outbound Transmission Shaft. Don't ask how i know. Only Thing a would admit, it has to do with smoking .....

Hey Folks, this might get into a long and not so 'on Topic' Discussion .... Let's keep this short and i try to list my 'educated guessed' two Cents. The '83 was the Mother of all the V4's and it was born in Days, where Pollution and Fuel Economy was not high up in the Books. Therefore Yammi did bring up very much most Power they can have in a Mass Production and without much of long Term Knowledge about Durability These early Cams have a bit more aggressive Timing and a slightly higher Lobe. When they brought the Vmax Motor in '85 these Cams are known as the best and most powerful stock Cams ever made. These Vmax Cams have their base on early 1Gen Cams even if the Vmax Cams have a even higher Lobe to deliver more Mixture into the Combustion Chamber when the V-Boost is open. I even bought a '85 Motor just for getting such a Set of Cams for my upcoming Project Engine. The '83 Venture has had the YICS System, which was discontinued in '84 or '85. The '83 Model have different Springs on the Diaphragm, different Lifter Borings in the Slides, other Jetting. Even if the Carbs Diameter remained unchanged for all 1Gens, there are a Lot of changes made over the Years. The Dimensions of the Fuel Jets are, compared to the only 1 mm larger Vmax Carbs, a Lot more conservative. The Cams of the 1Gen, as far as i know, have been slightly changed in the '84 Model, then for '86 1300cc Motor(stock '85 Vmax Cams or sightly detuned), then in 1990 when Pollution was getting more into Play. All changes where not the Best for Power and Torque. And, not to forget, they changed Spark Advance on the '90 Model. They early Bikes have up to 42* Advance, since 1990 it's only 33*. All in all, i think, if some say the early 1200cc Bikes are faster, it might be dued to all these minor changes and the Difference in Weight which the 1300cc Bikes suffer from. The 100cc Gain in Displacement went straight into Torque, the 8 hp more Yammi states for the 1300cc Motor are pretty much only on Paper. Gearing hasn't changed over all Years. (Maybe it's Time to start a Wikipedia about all the Differences and Cross Parts over all Years, just before these Informations are lost forever. I've been thinking about such a Database since mid of last Year. A Lot of Informations are here in the Board, but buried inbetween Posts.)

Need Help Please!!!! Advice!!

I'd say, the "26H ...." Basket is only a Number for the casted Part of the Basket. (btw 26H is 1Gen:)) The complete Part Number is what counts. It might be better at this Point, if you just let the Dealer do what he's supposed to and check the Result. It may sound stupid, but i think the Gear on the Crankshaft would be eaten up within a short Period of Time. Be it Carbon Fibre or other Plastics, i.e. POM (Delrin). I've seen some very spoiled Steel Gears on Diesel Engines which connect to a hydraulic Pump. I just couldn't believe it in first Place. The Plastic wasn't even out of Specs, the Steel Gear was almost gone. On two Occasions, with assistance of a poor Adjustment of the Gears, the Steel was GONE and half of the Plastic was worn out. -
start up oil

if the Oil isn't synthetic or Fuel conserving ... No Problems expected -

Any of those Calipers who look like they would fit, will fit. The newest Models of R1 or R6 are using radial mounted Calipers and these are definitely different looking. FJR, R1, R6, TDM(don't know if they are sold now) are all the Calipers. Here's a recent Thread about the Issue ... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=19838

Yes Dan, this Breather Casing has everything in it. Hot Air Vent from inside the Casing, Coolant and Oil. If there any Leak on a Motor, be it Coolant in Oil, Oil in Coolant or a Lot of a Fluid out of the Breather Tube, i'd suspect this Assembly in first Place. And yes, there's not so much to see by the Book. I don't know why they designed it the Way it is, but it it's like it is.

Hi and welcome here on the Site. To be humble, even when most other Guys say, just replace the Springs, i'd suggest to replace the Friction Plates while the Clutch Cover is open. No big Job, Costs are not an Arm and a Leg and you'd be fine for the next Years. If the Clutch slips in cold Temperatures, i will not get better when the Oil is hot and Spring Time os coming.... Also, when the Maintenance History of the Bike is unclear, change at least Motor Oil, Filter and Plugs. Check Airfilter and blow it out with compressed Air.

Here they are, #38 and #40 in the Fiche http://fiche.ronayers.com/Index.cfm/Module/Main/TypeID/26/Type/Motorcycle/MakeID/4/Make/Yamaha/YearID/31/Year/1990/ModelID/2238/Model/XVZ1300DA_VENTURE_ROYALE/GroupID/350002/Group/RADIATOR_HOSE_

Dan, mostly this are the Sealings of the Breather Casing underneath the Carbs. There are two special O-Rings which might need Replacement.

Can you see the U-Joint moving behind the Nut ??

That all said ... i calculate the todays Price here in Stuttgart, Germany to 8.35 USD per US gal ....

Cecil, now we are on the same Page. The "Freeplay" or "Lash" is caused by the Transmisson Gears. In Fact i think we can't call it that Way, because this is none of the mentioned. It is the Distance of traveling which the Dogs travel free in the Gears. These Dogs allow some Travel within the Gear which it is connected to, whenever the Trans is in a Gear. This is inherent in such Kind of Transmission.

Sorry Cecil, but i have to oppose your Statement. I don't know nothing about the early Pumpkins and their Drive Shafts, but the later Pumpkins have taken place in a Lot of Bikes (FJR,Vmax, 2Gen and who know where else) in different minor Variations. Whenever i was in need to put a Pumpkin back in Place, i've always pulled the Shaft out of the Pumpkin and never did anything go south. Even the Workshop Manual for the later 1Gens and the Vmax states that the Shaft is mounted to the U-Joint prior to the mounting of the Pumpkin. In your Theory this couldn't happen, because the Shaft is mounted to the Pumpkin. Maybe you have the early and later Pumpkins mistaken ? Second, regarding the free Play inside the outbound Shaft of the Transmission. There is none. There can't be any free Paly. The Spring load on those two Cams inside the angled Gear is heavy. That is why you need a Shop Press or other high Force Tools to undo the C-shaped Washers which hold everything together. If there would be any Lash or free Play, this Safety Clutch would unlock every second Time you accelerate a bit harder. You would feel and hear this 20 Meters away from the Bike. I've been there and i can tell you this is a hammering Noise you won't forget your Lifetime. I had the big Ball Bearing partly damaged and it locked up on every 10th or 20th Revelation of the Motor. It was all my Fault and i payed the Price for it. No need to ask how come ... :whistling: So, if you grab the the big Nut on the outside of the middle Gear and the U-Joint with the other Hand, you can feel the Lash between both angled Gears and the Lash in the Spline of the U-Joint. If there is a Lash in the Spline. When playing around, you can feel and determine which is which Lash. Of Course, if someone is technically inclined he can get a satisfying Result much quicker.

I can't imagine a Wrench Guy coming to the the Warehouse Guy and saying "hey, please give me a 11 139 for a RP12" :rotf::rotf:Even it he says this in Japanese. I could imagine, that this System is Part of trying to get a Structure into a Lot of Parts in different Models. This Structure could makes '11139' a Head Cover. Sort of how to manage the individual Part, it's Size, Weight and a lot of other Parameters which come into Play when running a Plant and a Inventory in a Warehouse. If you apply such a Structure to any new Model wich is ought to be produced, it may come in real handy and cheaper to manage. But i never ever heard about it in the Past. Maybe, we're onto something here and are on our Way to reinvent the Wheel. But what to do with the new gained Knowledge? :whistling: -
You're bad Boys. Both of you. Teasing a fellow Member with a running Bike, while he has plenty of Bikes in the Stable, but none that would work right now. That's not nice, not nice!:sick:

Why are you in need to replace the Seal ? I never did that and it always worked fine for me.

I Need A...

But, i can assure you, if the frist three Digits are different, it is not a different Parts by all Meanings. There are a Lot of Parts interchangeable even when then carry a different Parts Number. A Lot of Vmax Parts fit to Ventures and vice versa. Once, i even looked up a Parts Number from a Vmax (Tank Sensor) and compared it to the same Parts from a 1999 YZF-R1. They are different in first three Digits, so are the Sensors, but the main Difference is the Length of the Sensor inside the Tank. Mounting, Sealing anything except the Lenght and the Connector is the same. So, in Case of Repair Kit, which is only in Question to determine if the Piston Diameters are the same or different, you can say just that the Repair Kit have different Numbers on the first three Digits. You can't say, they will be interchangeable or not. If the Parts number would have been exactly the same, now you take it as Fact that they are not different and the Piston Diameters are the same. As you reseached, the Fact that the same 5 Digits carry the Number for the same Part in different Bikes is quite interesting, i never thought about that and it's good to know, but won't help me anything when i'm looking for the Parts number of any Part on my Bike. But i would buy the Beer if someone could explain me the overall standing Logik behing all this. -
