If i may ask, did you pay Attention on where to place the round/sharp Edges of the Steel Plates ?? What i'm getting at is ... If you place all the sharp Edges towards the outside of the the Motor, the Pulling Force on the Lever will be slightly harder and the actual "Friction Zone" will possibly be narrower than with the sharp Edges facing inwards on the Clutch Hub. That's because the sharp Edges allways "bite" a bit into the Surface of the Splines at Clutch Hub. This may cause a narrower Friction Zone and a very small Difference between the Clutch Package not grabbing, slightly biting and full Clamping Force. Simply because the Round Edges are not hindering the the Travel of the Steel Plates on their Way back into full clamping Position. The Upside of this is, of Course, the Steel Plates arem allowed an easy travel and full calmping Force. If you reverse the Steel Plates, a Pull on the Lever will make it easier for the Package to disengage and thereby probably making the Friction Zone a bit wider by not letting the Steel Plates travel back that easy. Please understand, I'm talking in Theory here, i never experimented in that Area, because i have Lock-Up clutches in both Bike, the VR and the 1Gen Max. Nevertheless, it could make that small Amount of Difference to put you back into your Comfort Zone. The Friction Zone allways will be different with a stiffer or double Spring Setup, but if it makes enough Difference for you, you could live with the Outcome and be a happy Camper without spending extra Money. Yes, there are other Options available, but besides a Lock-Up Clutch or a EFM Clutch, all will require extended Pulling Force and most likely narrow the Friction Zone also. It's Physics. Springs are Springs and the Amount of Room between Pressure Plate and Clutch Cover is very limited. -
If i remember correctly, Lynn, aka Pegscraper here had the same Problem. He raised the rear of the Bike with flipping over a triangular shaped part on the Shock. I don't remember if it took more Mods to the Part or it was only a Matter of Bolt-Off/Bolt-On, but anyway, thats hould give at least a Hint in the right Direction. You also might think about revamping the front Brake System with R1 Calipers and a Brake Master Cylinder coming off another Star MC.

I should add, those calculated Values are based on pure DC. Since this "DC" is triggered at a fast Rate, one should calculate with AC Data too, but since nobody (at least i never heard, read or self meeasured Data in this Area) knows cos(phi) of those Coils, a precise Measurement of the actual Current flowing is necessary. -

I just checked the Data ... 1Gen Vmax Coils should be at 2.43 to 2.97 Ohm (12V/2.43 Ohm = 4.96 A) 2Gen VMAX Coils should be at 1.19 to 1.61 Ohm (12V/1.19 Ohm = 10.08 A) Those 2Gen COPS suck a Lot more Amps out of a stock 1Gen Unit, most likely to a Point where the Circuits inside the TCI will die a waely and overheated Death. I'd willing to bet some Money there's some Resistance involved, be it a Resistor somewhere or even the Wire itself is a Resistor. Or there's a external transistorized Power Device which makes up for the Difference of twice the normal Current. -

Gary, the '09 VMAX has a COP-System. Pic showed up here also. I never checked for the Resistances involved, but i tend to believe just extending the Wires would kill a stock TCI, because of the Power involved. That may different with your Ignitech Brainbox, but i'd sure take some Amp-Measurements before frying the Computer. -

Wow, strong Words. I won't get into the technical Side of the Discussion, because most of the important Points are already made, but look at the human Side of this. Iirc, nobody in the orignal Thread said anything bad about your S-i-L or you. All Comments where aiming at one Point, giving you more Information and help you making an EDUCATED and INFORMED Decision. They speak from Expirience not only on the etablished Bikes here, but all Kind of Makes and Ages. You take that out of the Perspective and feel yourself and your S-i-L kind of attacked or belittled ? I'd say you should think about the Matter again. All People here are out to help in any Way they can, not to attack you or making you feel bad. Not meaning they can't be wrong, i was wrong myself more often than i'd like to. But nevertheless, they want to help you not put you down and out.

I want to add that it's allways a good Idea to cover the Engine Side with a Gasket Sealer Product, like RTV (for instance. i use Wurth DP300 on that) on a freshly mounted Gasket. I even openend up all relevant Covers on my brand new '09 Max just to do that. I saved all of them for a long Time. The new Gasket will stick to the Cover and the Sealer allows the Gasket to get away unharmed from the Engine Casing under normal Circumstances. I saved probably some 20 Clutch Cover Gaskets on my 1Gen Max in doing so.... Now SilvrT ... a bit of Body Workout is allways a good Thing !!! :crackup: P.S. You couldn't crack a Walnut by Hand before ?? Twas about Time time to train the Muscles !!!! -
No need to get miffed or something like that. You most likely got the Message to renew some three Weeks ago or longer than that. Within a Computer, there allways has to be dead Line set. When you go past the Dead Line, the Machine will cut you off. Period. Regardless of the Member. Even Don himself would been cut off !!:rotf:Renewing Process takes around two Minutes when using Paypal. It wouldn't been nice if the programing would have dumped your Profile and everything else, but i believe Don would never do that. At least not in such short Period of Time.

Generally speaking, shortening the Lenght of Exhaust System causes the Torque and hp Curves to shift upwards in Relation to the RpM. That goes for the Intake System also. Most likely you'll see a slight Increase in the Values, but that goes along with a change in low and Midrange Power, which is not the Target of most our Riders here. Because is causes a little Lack of get-up where we ride most of the Time. That said, it may be different on the 1Gens. That's because the when you cut out some Corners, the Collector will have better Flow and by this allowing to make up the lost Values. It's a matter of trying it for yourself. The Ride will change, yes, but for better or worse in your Purpose is rather unkown. -

Wow, indeed sad News !! I'm sorry to hear it's taking them so long. I'm not willing to hurt you in any Way, but, when you combine the downside of of having the Bike out of Duty for such a long Time and the Bill the Dealer will present you, i'd rather have a used Engine mounted and be riding around since 9 Weeks or so. Probably at around the same Price ... -
I'd never use a Scissor-Style Lift with our Bikes. Ok, it works, as we all know, but it's just me and my personal Fear of seeing a Bike lying on the Ground. The higher you elevate the Table, the smaller the Base on the Ground gets .... I also have a HF Style Table-Lift, probably coming from the same Factory in China and i served me well for more than 4 Years. Then a remaing Filing from the Center Bore inside the Cylinder got loose and not only ruined the Seal but also left a good Gash in the Cylinder Wall. I put the Cylinder (Steel Tube) on the Lathe and enlarged the Bore, made up a new and better Seal, honed the Cylinder and now i'm looking froward to get another 10 Years out of it. The original Seal was Kind of a bad Joke. Looked dangerous for teh mechanically inclined, but seemed to work just fine, probably would have worked for a loooong Time if it weren't been for the loose Filing.

Don, i don't remember who it was, but we had a Member telling us about getting K&L Dealer Discounts about six or eight Weeks ago ... it was quite a lengthy Discussion, about 25 or 30 Posts long and the Member got Price Quotes for two or three other Members here. Those K&L and are by far superior to anything what HF or similar sells... But they know it and everything from them comes with a rather heavy Price Tag ...

If you find your rear Brake sensitive, go with EBC organic Pads. If you rear Brake Feeling is ok for you, EBC HH would be the best Choice, performance/wear/money-wise.

I think you meant parallel to the Battery, because trying to read Voltages with the Meter inline means forcing the Smoke out of the Meter ... -

Gary, why in the World are 25 AH not enough ? The stock lead-Acid Battery provides 20 AH. The Cyclon Cells come in 8AH, 12,AH and 25 AH Capacity, the big one is way more than only adequate for the the Application. On the 1Gen Max, a Hawker SBS 8 works for starting the Bike and holds up around 3 or 4 Years. These are 8 AH Batteries. Over here, you can get them used form Ebay from very little Money, these are used in Backup Systems and have to be taken out when they're due, wether they're ok or not. I'm sure a mid-size Shorai 12 V Battery would be up to your Task also.

No Way Mini, I'll be there to give a true Statement ... btw, do you know the Difference between Friendship seen from male or female Perspective ?? If i'd call 10 Friends of my Wife, eight will say that she didn't saw her over the last Days. Two would say she had been with them until 9 p.m last Night. If my Wife would call ten Friends if mine, 10 would say they've been out with me last Night, 7 of them would say i left just an Hour ago and three would say i'm still at there Place looking at something in the Yard or Garage ...

NOt a good Idea, Battery and other Items of heavy Weight should be put in the Center of the the Bike, preferable as low as one could get them in there. Gary, take a Look a Hawker 2 Volt single Cells. We can use Hawker SBS-8 Battery on the 1Gen Maxxes, that would also be an Option.

Thanks Goose, got a good Laugh out of your Posting :crackup::crackup: I can say almost the same Thing for the brand new, for the '09 VMAX exclusivly developed Tire BT 028 from Bridgestone. The Tire is OK for the Longevity, but the wet handling causes a Lot to desire when you're familiar with recent Tires and then some Guys just might need fresh Underwear when caught in Rain and/or freshly paved Roads. What i'm trying to say is, don't believe too much in the Manufacturers recommend Tire, there will be something better to have, often for less Money or at least for Less Money per happy Miles ...
