Inexpensive whine/chirp fix
Squeeze replied to remmertb's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I really saw this coming ... :whistling: To answer your Question, no negative Effect, nada, zilch .... But these are is the cheapest Parts of the Transmission Clockwork, therefore i used the Shift Forks as Example. Here's the Holder i fabbed in 20 Minutes http://www.gkvgmbh.de/imgsq/Tools//Kupplungsnabenhalter1.jpg http://www.gkvgmbh.de/imgsq/Tools//Kupplungsnabenhalter2.jpg http://www.gkvgmbh.de/imgsq/Tools//Kupplungsnabenhalter3.jpg -
Need a 1st Gen MKII front rotor
Squeeze replied to dingy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Gary, a FJR 1300 rear Rotor is the same Size and Bolting Pattern as the Vmax rear, so this one should work also. Imho, it looks nicer than the 1Gen Vmax Rotor too. I got one on my 1Gen Max along with FJR Rims and radial Tires .... The "Spokes" on the inner Ring may be of some Importance when you use the Rotors on the front, but using any of these Rotors on the rear will cause no ill Effects. There much less Braking Power at work, so the Spokes will up to the Task even if they're facing in the "wrong" Direction. -
Inexpensive whine/chirp fix
Squeeze replied to remmertb's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I wouldn't use an Impact Wrench on the Main Nut of the Clutch Basket nor would is stress the Tranny and middle Drive Gear with using the rear Brake to hold the Traby Shaft. A working Clutch Holder Tools is cheaper than a one single Shift Fork, and much cheaper than a Set of Gears .... I made a Clutch Holder Tool out of Vice Pliers and two Strips of 4 mm Sheet Metall. WOrks just as good and is even cheaper than buying the Tool. -
Sounds like your Bike needs a heavy Dose of Sea Foam Treatment.

Hunt for a Boost Sensor

That's definetely a Sign of a lean Condition or a Vacuum Leak. If you checked everything for Leaks, it's a lean Condition in the Idle or above Idle Circuits withing the Carbs. -
Strange situation on bike today
Squeeze replied to WAC1972's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
There's teh Fuel Pump Relay which is a Safety Device. It allows to Pump to operate for 5 to 10 Seconds once you turn the Key on. After that, it starts pumping again only if the Flywheel is turned be the Starter Motor or the Motor runs, because the FPR uses the Ignition Signal to determine weather the Motor is running or not. So, in other Words, if you want to try to check the Fuel Pump for longer Time, you need to energize it with flying Wires(12Volt). Or turn the constantly on and off, or push the Starter Button and let the Crank turn 2 or 3 Times each Burst. -

I'm glad that you've been able to avoid being sandwiched !! :thumbsup2::thumbsup2: Thanks for the Story Mike, it made me laugh, but it isn't funny for sure when your in the middle of such a Mess. -
You definetely need a Gasket between Casing and Stator Cover. Otherwise, as you exprirenced sadly, the Starter Gears will lock up. Regarding the shifting Issue, if you try to shift without the rear Wheel turning, you'll most likely end up not able to shift all Gears. It's just the Nature of the Tranny. If you want to shift through all Gears, you need to have someone turn the rear Wheel while shifting.

Any Number of Days multiplied with Zero Hours is still Zero Hours per Week ... I'm surprised Swifty did need to confirm this with a Calculator.

V-Max final pinion galling.
Squeeze replied to Condor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Good Morning Folks, I also didn't see something like that too often. Out of the three i saw over the last Years, two have been fine to use, one started to give the Owner Problems about a Year after we had the final Drive apart. Mind you , this was on 1Gen Vmaxxes. They usually don't add up the Miles as much as the Venture Riders in US and Canada. That's mostly because the Distances are not that great in Europe, on the other Hand, usually the Riders are a bit tougher on the Throttle than the Venture Riders. Jack, depending if you have some Testing Time before you're heading out on a big Trip, i would mount the final Drive as it is, ride it hot and for about 50 mls and change out the Oil again. Then, aquire the (FJR und 2Gen) specific Gear Oil(9079E-SH001) from Yamaha and fill it up(it's not cheap, take your Heart Pills with you). Then go for a test Ride or two. If there's no Problem after 300 mls, i'd call OK, for now and head out as planned. If there's little to no "testing Period" possible, it's either aquire another Gear Set or leave the Bike like it is for now and test it later. -
Lynn, I really didn't say nor meant to say you've been a "tough Customer". We talked a Lot about improving the Braking Performance on your Ride, and while you believed most of what i said, i heard some Doubt ringing through your Words about the Brake Master Cylinder until you actually did it. I'm glad it worked as i said it would and i honestly believe, everybody should consider this rather sooner than later. These Bike are heavy, and most Riders tend to put a Lot of Weight on it, be it Riders and Passengers, Safety Chrome, Luggage .... Along with steel braided Brake Lines, it makes world of Difference, and it's a real Improvement in Safety. You said this after you completed the Mod and i sure toot in the same Horn.

So, i guess the Shift Drum was the from the old (mounted) Gear Set ?? I mixed up Gearsets between a FZ750 and a YZF 750R Motor. Which are supposed to be the same except 1st Gear Ratio and also fitting to the FZ Motor. Well they are, but there where slight Differences and in the End, we took the Shift Drum which gave the best Clearance and shifted the best. What I'm trying to say, these Trannies are like a mechanical Clock Work, if you mix up Things inbetween two Gear Sets, take a very close and a second AND a third Look before you call it OK. I'm very sorry this happened to Wizard's Motor, but it look like you're on the right Way. -
Just listen to what Pegscraper has to say. I guided him through all this, and he just wouldn't believe me until he mounted the 14mm Master. It makes a tremendous Difference. It's not only the the Piston Diameter on the Master but also a different Leverage between Lever and Piston Rod. Most People which are already happy with the Way the 5/8" Master works will be really happy Campers when they mount a 14mm Master. Please notice, i said MOST People. I know two Guys which liked the kinda "digital" Feeling on the Lever more than the powerfull and controlable Feeling of the 14mm Master. Pegscraper went the extra Mile and got semi-floated 298mm Rotors instead of the stock rigid Discs and this gave an extra Boost over his already much better Setup.

Squeeze replied to Wizard765's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Try to put a little upward and downward force on the Shift Lever while the Tranny is in neutral and with a little Clutch engaged. Within the Theory, the Noise should go away when the Shift Fork moves the Gear a bit and would getting worse when forcing the Shift Shaft towards the opposite Direction. But please take it easy on Clutch and Tranny .... -

Squeeze replied to Wizard765's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
That would be my Guess too. Something's wrong with the Shift Cam Shaft or one of the Shift Forks is pushing a Gear/partly engaging a Gear. Or did you mix up Parts from different Gear Sets ? -
It's a major Thing within Islamic Religion that the Burial should been held within 24 Hours of the Death occurred. Our Media says, out of Respect of this they did this within teh time Line. On the other Hand, a Muslin should buried in Land, with the Face looking towards Mekka. They did not uphold that Rule. Understandable in this Case, but why respect one Rule and void others ?? There allways will be Rumours. It's like an Religion too, anyone will believe what he/she wants to believe.

OK this is my Final question....
Squeeze replied to Condor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The Shock-Stud in the Vmax Housing is dismountable. Just use a Vise Grip or put it in a Vise and turn it out. But the Thread (btw M10x1.25) has to be closed somehow, as the Hole goes all the Way through the Housing allowing Final Drive Lube to come out if the Stud isn't there anymore. -
Aftermarket TCI available!
Squeeze replied to tvking63's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Sounds more and more interesting for me .... Most likely i'll go for a Ignitech when i get to finishing with my Injection Project one Day in somewhat distance Future. Gary, I'm glad you have been able to pick the System up. Much easier Task than fitting all the Yamaha Black Boxes, ending up with almost nothing to adapt and adjust. -
GoPro recently started to offer a Display which seems to fit on teh back of the Camera. Not that cheap, i believe it's around 80 Bucks.

Here's Pic of said Suspension Parts ... As i already said in the other Thread, Pegscraper flipped the trinangular Parts over and raised the Binke about an Inch, if i recall correctly ... http://images.powersportsnetwork.com/fiche/images/YAMAHA/1996/motorcycles/18007_reararm.gif http://www.partshark.com/fiche_image_popup.asp?fveh=18007§ion=676834&year=1996&make=YAMAHA&category=motorcycles&dc=5364&name=REAR+ARM -

It's not like a Slip Clutch (btw Slipper Clutch has another Meaning when talking Bikes), it's a centrifugal Clutch, the faster the Clutch Hub(the inner Part of the two) spins the more the Weights forces the Clutch Package together. http://www.wildbros.com/images/lockup1.jpgThose six Bolts on the Ends of the small Levers are the Weights, the Levers clamp the Package. If you pull the Clutch Lever, even while under full Throttle, the Levers are forced back to disenage the Clutch. Works great. -
Hey, are you implying that you actually believed anything what i said ??:crackup: Honestly, i try hard not to give wrong Informantion, but every now and then, i go only from my long Term Memory and have a different Pic in Mind or remember Values from another V4-Bike or something along that Line. Happens, i try hard to not let that happen, but sometimes Time is rare and i just type away in an eager to help and mix up Information. :250:

Rick, it's Kinda hard for me to describe. There are Weights attached to the Pressure Plate inside the Clutch Hub. Once you release the Lever, the Weights start to clamp down the Pressure Plate by the centrifugal Force. The stock Springs stays in Place, but since the Clutch doesn't rely on Spring Force anymore, i put in the weakest Spring i had lying around. Who makes them ... There's french Company called OTEC who brought those up here in Europe. But their Prices are ... ridiculous ... You can get them direct from Cannes Moto Service http://www.cannesmotoservices.com/ or from Exactrep in England or from Wild Bros in US here .. http://www.wildbros.com/Clutches.html I Tend to believe these are very similar Clutches, obviously made in US, and even one without using a Clutch Lever at all http://www.efmautoclutch.com/street.shtml Since we Maxxers over here in Germany are all broke, a Guy from our Forum made very similar Clutches(not to say he copied the OTEC) for us at a special (cheap) Price. But the Source has drained out since. I Friend of mine has everything measured and put into the CAD but since the Economy picked up up at his Business, he can't get them done any Time soon.
