  3. Steve like has been said dont give up yet my grand ma had the same but she fought it kept saying the doc dont know what they talking about and only gave her 6 months well 12 years 3 months 1 week and 2 days later she finaly had enough and told the nurse to tell doc that he has finally got it right but he needs to get the time line down she passed with a smile 12 years later saying a prayer for you and many more miles of riding
  4. yes i can put the stand down in gear and it does not kill the engine with the relay back in i have no spark pull the relay i get spark but the tip over switch has to be unplugged to with the tip over switch plugged in i still get no spark i played with it many ways to figure out and make sure of the problem its a weird problem or just maybe its age and every thing held together till now scratch that the side stand is now working i can still kill the bike putting the side stand down now not sure what why but after the rain storm from Tropical Storm Andrea i went to the store put the stand down in 1st gear and all went dead
  5. :whistling::rotf::rotf::rotf:
  6. yep thats the culprit Gary mine is still attached as i cant get my hands in there far enough but when i get a new used one i will have to take everything apart to get at it i will take it apart to look inside like you did and i will take pics to
  7. yes Gary i have it unplugged taped up and tucked out of the way but i had a 2 fold problem tip over unplugged no spark pulled relay with blue connector tip over switch plugged in no spark pulled both i have spark and took it for a nice test ride today i never knew this bike would run so smooth on all 4 for the longest time i was running 3 and thought it was normal all 4 pipes were getting hot # 1 was dropping out on an intermittent basis and i didn't know i guess the cause of the old TCI on its way out anyway it ran nice and smooth gas consumption seems a little more but not sure yet going to reset the trip meter top it off and then gauge it from there its tweetys old new heart in a 1200 it definatly has a lot of get up and gone not go but gone :whistling::rotf::rotf: i did have one hick up at 3500 rpm where she dropped but picked right up my tip over switch was wrapped with elec tape (got broken wires at the plug connector) got home and tape came off i think it may have grounded and caused the hick up re wrapped it tight and tucked out of way and no problem since hence the get up and gone:322::yikes::bikersmilie::happy-emoticon:oh that ride was fun :rotf:

  13. thanks KIC the switch is behind the headlight below and behind relay row i pasted a link that has a pic of one hard to get at too if you have big hands http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1984-YAMAHA-VENTURE-XVZ1200-EMERGENCY-STOP-SWITCH-/350721121890
  14. i never been to one to use i know i got about 15.00 in pennies but i think the bank wants them rolld up not sure will be checking in the morning
  15. thanks Jeff i plan on it just have to call them back now and set up a new date and time and then get up there.. got to take all my pennies i saved in the change jug and hit up one of those coin star machines so i have gas money for the trip up and back:cool10::322::322:ill be riding again
  16. OK i tested the pick=up coils the CORRECT:whistling: way this time :rotf: and i have 115 to 120 on all 4 :cool10: everything was good and my ignition coils are still showing 4 to 4.5 but good news its running now can anyone explain why when i pull the relay with blue connector it runs and when i put it back in it wont the tip ove switch is mounted good noting lose i checked it with key on bat hooked up put my leads on it and it cuts the bike off as if the key was turned off and when i do get a reading its 0.7 v dc strange i think it is the culprit with it unplugged and relay in it still wont start so i know the relay is fried and the tip over switch is part of the problem
  17. have a safe trip over Annie i hope to see and meet yall on your travels through the states
  18. summer vacations big oil wants your money you saved they dont want you feeding your family i have noticed it as well since i have no income and really have to watch every penny i spend
  19. Frank thank you for your support on this borrowing a friends car unfortunately is not an option as all of my so called friends that i have helped out in the past can not help some of them that would help if they could just cant as that's all they have and need it to get back and forth to work im set on running the bike as i was able to afford the gas on it 40 to go to Tupelo the last time for testing and 20 to get back and that was with a stuck float on the first leg of the trip up reason for the 40 cost i when i go this time it will definitely be on a wing and a prayer since i don't have any more money and im fighting unemployment and im not one to ask for any as i know how hard it is to work for what little we all do get from our jobs and or retirement and i really don't want people thinking the wrong thing about me (leach or freeloading bum i think we all know a few of these) i don't know call it stubborn pride i was always taught to be the one people could depend on and provide for my family from the school of hard knocks (we all have been to that school) and i feel like i have failed at that as for the reason to get this bike running so i can get another job to provide for myself and my family as for ignoring it i don't plan on that if i have to i will walk the 300 mi. it may take me 5 or 6 days but i would do it if i have to i really don't like putting my personal business out there but honestly this is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg with what im going through and lie Squidley said to me if it wasn't for bad luck i would not have any at all enough venting i think i will be on the right track to get the bike running now but can anyone tell me where the tip over switch is and if that is my problem is there a way to bypass it to get by temporarily till i can get a new one i will be testing the pick up coils in the morning the correct way this time :detective::detective:i do want to thank everyone for there suggestion ideas and tips in helping me to figure out this problem you have all been a great help more than you can imagine
  20. ok im simple got to be specific or i dont understand i do better with hands on and watching others do things in some cases but i just got clairification on what i am doing wrong with my testing i feel so stupid after reading the directions and not comprehending until some one points it out my black lead needs to be on the black wire from the plug ok i see but that is what i love about this site thank you
  21. i did the check with the TCI off the bike sitting 10 feet from it on the table black lead of my meter on the neg- battery lead with the key on and key off battery was also sitting on the table next to the TCI. i am going to do the check with my black lead on the pos+ bat lead key on and off just to see what happens on the 6 wire plug t the TCI. i figure it cant hurt
  22. with another check it still the same OL. on pick up coil and 4.1 and up on ignition coils ... i was hopingthe would show up correctly if i gave them a chance:fingers-crossed-emo to straighten their act up :rotf:
  23. ok got some readings that are not in spec 200 scale on my greenlee DM-60 digital meter with fresh new battery primary ignition coil black lead on pos battery lead battery unhooked key off orange 4.1 ohms gray 4.1 ohms yellow 4.6 ohms white 4.2 ohms battery hooked red/white on 8 pin connector showed 11.6v dc the same as my jump box battery checked with another battery 12.9 on battery and same on red/white wire 3rd bat was 12.4 and at wire 12.4 key on battery unhooked 6 wire connector black meter lead on neg bat connector key on on 200 scale next step up is 2k on my meter pick-up coil resistance orange OL gray OL red/white OL green/white OL edit pick up coil reading checked at both plugs sorry been up all night reading everything in 1st gen teck library and was checing 8 in connector this time it was 6 pin and 5 pin by the seat and now Toyota called me wanting to reschedule for tomorrow that's not going to happen now i have to call them when i get the bike fixed if that's possible. can the pick up coils be fixed without having to replace them or am i a sitting duck dead in the water also the volt gauge was showing normal charging and works properly so my R/R should be ok going bac out to check one more time thats all plug wires and caps hooked to new spark plugs all 4 gapped .31 to .35
  24. check your coils wires and caps thats what im dealing with now and all 4 were way out of spec going back out to check my readings for a 4th time to make sure i got it right
