1. What's it like you ask? REJUVENATING EXHILARATING IMMEDIATE PMS CURE A RUSH
2. Went and got the Apple keyboard that Brian mentioned. Plug and Play ... works like a hot damn! Awesome feel, compact although the keys are bigger and nicer spaced. Love it! Thanks for the tip on that Brian!
3. ... and thanks to you and guys like you who take the time to explain things and share your experiences!
4. I'm happy with a minute and don't have an SSD. I did know about the mouse wheel "trick" .. kinda cool.... try it by holding the wheel down and moving your mouse now.... :cool10:
5. MUCH SLOWER?? 60 seconds here from the time the OS starts loading until I have my desktop. After Windows, this is like light speed! I don't recall exactly how fast Ubuntu or Mint took to load but neither seemed much different.
6. oh, I wasn't complaining about the price of the keyboard ... just showing that it's available and at what price .... heck, $55 is very reasonable ... it was the TAX I was growling at LOL As for the typing vs riding, Not until I retire will I be riding more than typing ... unfortunately, it goes with the job
7. $54.99 at BestBuy here in Burnaby .... PLUS 12% tax! ggrrrrrrrrrrrrrr http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/apple-apple-wired-keyboard-mc110ll-b-white-mb110ll-b/10176384.aspx?path=c5ccf556be431dad405ffa0b56b58153en02
8. That's very interesting... I'm going to get me one! Do the "Command" and "Option" keys work and what do they do in Linux? I see there is no "Alt" key ... what replaces that? In RoboLinux, I can use the Ctrl+Alt+ Right or Left arrow to toggle between desktops ... what keys do that with this Apple keyboard?

Strike

I'm sitting here wondering WHY I'm reading this senseless thread.... Wait a minute! ... it just STRUCK me ..... coz I have nothing better to do!
10. Avast is a decent FREE anti-virus program and I've used it for several years on my Windows machines. NEVER respond to those "popups" that say anything like "your computer has been compromised ... download this app to fix it" ... that's one of the oldest "hooks" there is and nothing but big problems will come of it.
11. Been a few days (or weeks) and still running RoboLinux. Similar to Brian, search seems useless. Haven't been able to get my Canon Pixma scanner to work via scanning software; however, it is recognized as a printer and I can print to it. That wasn't an issue with Linux Mint. The Windows 7 VM Installers (which they want a $2 donation for) install fine but I've yet to get Windows to install in the VM. Again, I haven't had this problem on other Linux distros although I've only tried it on a couple. SAMBA ... yes, it's a b#tch to configure but it does work once you get it right. I use Webmin. http://www.webmin.com/samba-howto.html This is a very comprehensive configuration tool and it's not limited to just Samba. As for a web browser, I use Maxthon. http://www.maxthon.com/ I've been usng this program basically since it came out when it was called MyIE (back around 2000). I use it at home and at work. Don't like Firefox or IE. Maxthon is also available for Linux but it's a beta release at this time. I'm using it and it seems to be fairly stable. Something to keep in mind when entering commands in the Terminal window ... things are case sensitive. For example, if you have a folder named Documents (everyone does lol) and you type cd documents (cd means change directory ... as in the old DOS days), you'll get an error "no such file or directory" but if you type cd Documents, it will get you into that folder. so, keep that in mind as you get further into Linux and reading some help system that tells you to type stuff into a terminal window. Additionally, get to know some of the terminal commands that do stuff. Things like su or sudo are very helpful.
12. In the "old days" there used to be 1 or 2 LEO's sitting a bit up the street from a corner, nabbing those who didn't come to a complete stop. Now, I can't remember what the "fee" was then but consider this .... if they did it that way today, and you got a $100 fine ... would you be complaining about the fine or the cost to you, the taxpayer, for those 2 LEO's time? Cameras are a cost effective way to "police" drivers breaking the law. How do we stop people from such things? By catching them in the act and fining them. The more that get caught and fined..... well, maybe eventually people with get the idea. The lack of traffic cops is because it's not economical these days (like it was in the old days). As such, people step over the line and the more often they do that without getting caught, the more it becomes habitual. This is why there are so many BAD drivers these days .... they don't give a crap because nobody is doing anything about it. Well, some do and that generally results in road rage. This does not only apply to drivers ... pedestrians are just as bad. Jaywalking everywhere, disobeying Walk/Don't Walk signs, walking against a red light... why? Because nobody is catching them and fining them. If nothing is done, we'll have streets like they do in China ... people driving all over the road, cyclists everywhere, pedestrians weaving in and out of vehicles ... and accidents all over the place. I say .... ERECT TRAFFIC CAMS ON EVERY CORNER and nail the hell out of those who don't obey the rules! :witch_brew:
13. This and the so-called traffic violations should be irrelevant. When various levels of govn't continue to take a REactive approach to such things ... this is what happens and they should be held accountable IMHO.
14. If it was a 2012 then it would have the 5 yr. They discontinued that in 2013. I could only get 2 yr on mine and that's all they're offering on the 2014s Having said that, I believe you can purchase a 3rd party extended warranty but from what I've heard, there are so many caveats that it's not worth the money. Guy on the Vic site just found out his shifter fork was bent ... he had one of those 3rd party warranties ... they wouldn't do anything for him coz he had installed a Power Commander. This was on a 2011 model.
15. Rattle can job?
16. All I can add to this poetry... Is life's a Venture on my Victory
17. FWIW ... Victory does not have a 5 yr warranty. That only applied to a specific year as a promo.
18. You can lead a horse to water....... As puc says.... be there for them, support and love them, be a role model, try and educate them to the best of your abilities .... but generally speaking, kids will learn their own lessons. Turn them over to the law? That's a damn hard thing to do. My son has had more than his share of drinking, partying, and drug use. At 45 he's learned a few lesson's the hard way (I won't go into details but at least nobody died) and is finally taking those lessons seriously and straightening his life out. He's quit the drugs a few years ago, doesn't drive when drinking, has seriously reduced his consumption to weekends only, and is into a very healthy eating and exercise regime. Somewhat like me, I knew he would "grow out of it" in his 40's. I am so glad nothing serious happened along the way.
19. When I had my RSMV, I would generally not go into 5th until appx 110 km/h. Now, we know 80 km is 50 miles so ..... Can't remember at what speed I would change out of 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 4th. Where in BC are you? I'm in Burnaby. Wife and I were out riding for almost 5 hrs yesterday. Weather was great!
20. It would appear that it's no longer available as I can't get it anymore either....
