  1. speaking about taxes, I heard the Tax department is running out of ideas on what next to tax us on. Someone came up with the bright idea of a "peter" tax. Size would dictate (no pun intended) the amount of tax. Lucky for me, I'll be in the lower tax bracket! :rotf:
  2. A very interesting read. My neighbor just recently bought a new Toyota truck. He saved over $8000 by purchasing in US. After reading that thread and what my neighbor told me, all the more reason to SERIOUSLY consider purchasing my next "yammie" south of the border.
  3. Well I'm sure this will open up a "debatable can of worms" but... I believe if anyone checks the statistics, they will quickly see that, in comparison to the USA, the above statement is totally blatant. The median household income in the US is higher than that of Canada while at the same time, the cost of many things in Canada is much higher. What that equates to, to me, is that in general, folks in the US have more money to spend. :witch_brew:
  4. So-called "get rich" schemes. Here's one... http://www.secret-biz.com/bhmacdonald?gclid=CLTs0qPI5I4CFQ-1YgodKk9vPw There are lots of them out there. I've checked a few out, even tried a couple. Concepts seemed viable...but I gave up (too soon maybe?). Does anyone know anyone who actually "made it big" in any of these so-called "schemes"? They always show "success stories" but I'd sure like to speak directly to a real one if for nothing else but to prove to myself that not all of these are SCAMS.
  5. THAT is VERY GOOD. I emailed that to all in my address book with a request for them to send it to all in theirs. THAT is one piece of "chain mail" I will promote.
  6. dang... my eyes are goin on me... I thought it said "retarded" so I came in here..... no, NOT retired...yet! Frankly, unlike many folks but like many too, I never planned for retirement so I guess I'll not be retiring. I will; however, collect any retirement income (Canada Pension Plan) I have coming to me. What a crock that is eh? It's gotta be the lowest paying insurance scheme there is going. And "scheme" is an understatement...we are forced to pay into it all our working lives and when we collect, we get below poverty payments and they find every way they can to deduct from it. Meanwhile, they squander it away on poor investments almost to the point that there isn't any left to pay out. ggrrrrrrrrrrrrr here I go again.... no hair on back of neck gettin raised.
  7. DITTO ALL OF THE ABOVE! And I won't say any more coz I can feel the hair on my neck starting to stand up (and I don't have any hair there).

  10. It amazes me that a bike can be 25 years old, ridden regularly, and have only 22,500 miles.... what do some folks consider "regular" riding... daily trips to the corner store a block away? call me a skeptic...
  11. Wonderful "memories" I bet! lol Frankly, after 6 years here on the coast, I'm gettin homesick for the good old interior... more sun, hot summers, a "real" winter.... (just to name a few of several reasons) ... I notice the Toronto area has been basking in some nice warm weather lately but there's NO WAY I'd move to that place! (nor would the other half).

  16. A while back I posted about a whining sound I would get going around a right hand curve at speed. Well, I cured it! Turns out it was the rear tire. Even though the tire was not worn out, I had to replace it due to a leak from a nail. I put the same brand/size back on (Avon Venom X) a couple weeks ago and I no longer hear that whine. On another note (and referencing other posts) I also had a whining gear noise during deceleration. Others have stated they have this too. Well, I cured that also! Yesterday I went out for a ride and I donned my wife's helmet (3/4) instead of my own (1/2) and I could hardly hear the gear whine on deceleration! Guess I'm in for a new helmet
  17. hehe ... are you saying your son isn't talking about this "thrill" as fast as you???
  18. Good that you mentioned that... I never used to but while on a group ride back in the spring, one of the other riders in front of me suggested it (over the CB) as my headlight didn't appear very bright. I switched to high beam and he said "they can see ya coming now". I've been doing that ever since.
  19. I use hand signal often...it's the same one all the time... (single finger salute)
  20. (or not see them at all until it's too late) There are a lot of "judgement calls" on our part and in some cases, there is no one rule that is necessarilly the best. What is the best is brainstorming, taking in this information, putting it into practise, and being constantly aware of all the good information on this topic that we share with each other.
  21. Sounds like it's running too rich and the exhaust gases are "exploding" in the collector. Do you have any cracks/air leaks in the collector coz if there are, it will suk in oxygen rich fresh air which might cause some afterburn also.
  22. Danged lucky for you! Just curious, was this a 2 lane road/street or four lane?
  23. There is one more thing I'd like to comment on. That has to do with the left hand track, 2 lane road / highway. First of all, on a 2 lane highway, traffic coming towards you, no traffic in front of you. IMO it's better to be in the right hand track because that puts you into the view of the oncoming driver who is pulling out to pass someone sooner. If you're in the left hand track, that driver has to get out farther into your path before he will see you. Better for you to increase the "angle of view" than him. Approaching a left hand turner. Again, if there is any traffic going in the opposite direction, and you have no one in front of you, if you're in the right hand track, that on-coming left hand turner will see you sooner. Perhaps just right of centre would be better that way they don't get the idea you're turning right. Eugene mentioned the "zig-zagging" and that's a good idea as well. One thing I've noticed about many left hand turners and that is they sit there, partially turned into on-coming traffic, with their wheels turned. IF, for example, you're in the left hand track as you appraoch them and somebody hits them from behind, they're into your path NOW! Whereas if you're over to the right, there's more space for their reaction to hit the brakes and/or more space for their vehicle to come to a stop meaning less need for defensive manoeuver by you. IMO, the majority of drivers, if they can see you, aren't going to make a left hand turn into the path of an on-coming vehicle anyway, even if they figgure that vehicle is going to turn right simply because we are all taught that you don't turn into the path of an on-coming vehicle. Especially if you think they're turning right because they just might change their mind and then what? In both of the above scenarios, if you're in the left hand track, you are much more "hidden" by the oncoming traffic and in fact, can sometimes be "blended in" to it (as seen by that oncoming driver who is pulling out to pass or looking for a "hole" to turn left) just my $0.05 opinion. One thing for sure, it never does harm to open up such a discussion because if nothing else, it gets your mind thinking defensively and makes you more conscious of the need to be constantly aware of the other drivers around you.
  24. That's an interesting site and even has locations in Canada. It allows you to enter comments as well.
