  1. How often do we change plugs on a car nowadays? Seems to me it's several thousand miles...like 30k, 50k, 100k? N-E-Wayz, my point being, why would we change the plugs on a M/C more often than in a car? I put the Irridium plugs in mine... I don't plan on changing until they cause a problem...seems to me if they're working fine, then why change them "just cause"... (if it ain't broke, why fix it?) Similarly, I put new plugs in my '85 when I got it and ran those for 4 years (roughly 30k kms and then went to Irridium). When I changed them out, they looked very "normal" and the gap was still correct.
  2. We were all grumbling when Yamaha failed to upgrade and "modernize" the RSV for 2008. Look at what Honda is doing now... an AIR BAG for the Goldwing!!! That's it then...Yamaha is waiting for that technology to "catch on" and then we'll see a new RSV with front, rear & side air bags, anti-rollover, and a 6 cassette surround sound system with a high output grammaphyncal anti-woofenbacher!
  3. Speaking about barking... I used to have a dog named sex. One day he got lost. I went out looking for him and as I walked through the neighborhood, I called out his name. Several time I would call out "here sex... c'mon sex... where'd ya go sex.." It wasn't long before a cop car came along..... Seems some of the neighbors thought I was a bit crazy.
  4. dem durned freakin noises can driv a feller crazy. Mine would squeal (high pitched whine) going around a right turn at high speed. Changed wheel bearings front & rear, changed rear pads, changed rear rotor, lubed axle, etc... tire had lotsa tread..... nada! Tire got a nail so put a new one on...same brand/size (Avon Venom). Squeal gone!
  5. Why do we keep doing anything we love to do? Because those are the things we love to do. It's as simple as that and as long as we're able to keep doing those things, we will.
  6. Can't do without those "flyin snacks" eh? LOL
  7. PST (BC Provincial Sales Tax) is 7% GST (Goods and Services Tax) which is Federal is 6% so it's actually 13% now.
  8. In all my years of riding, I have to say that this past "riding season" has, IMO, been one of the worst insofar as weather is concerned. It's been cooler than usual and wetter than usual. This is probably the only summer where "going to hang out at the lake" hasn't even entered my mind. Friday (day before yesterday) was clear and sunny. Generally that's a work day so I normally wouldn't have been able to enjoy it but I was lucky to have scheduled that day off and got out on my scoot for a while. The first time in 2 weeks. Yesterday and today we've had non-stop rain. From the long-range forecast, and the fact that my insurance runs out on the 18th, I'm pretty certain that Friday was my last riding day until next season. I sure hope it's a better one than this past one has been. If I was retired, I'd for sure be living in a warmer, dryer climate.
  9. I'm pretty much sold on the RSV. I prefer it's looks to that of the Wing and I've never been one to want a "cadillac". Either next summer or the following one, I will be searching for "my" RSV, most likely I'll be bringing it up from somewhere south of the border. It will be exactly what I want and will be the last scoot I will buy.
  10. Thank gawd!! I was having trouble keeping track of all your posts! just ribbin ya Kit... truthfully, you should write a book coz it would be one I'd probably not be able to put down until I finished.
  11. I don't have this so-called whine primarilly because I ride a 1st gen! All kidding aside though, both my 1st gen's have their own bothersome sounds .... the 85 had a real bad whine at a certain rpm range (I think it was 2900-3000) regardless of what the speed was. My 87 has a deceleration whine. My Gold Wing ('83) had a rear end whine. I've come to the realization that regardless of the bike, there's always going to be some kind of bothersome sound simply because all of the mechanical components are out in the open. The best way I found to overcome these bothersome sounds is... a) put on louder pipes -or- b) wear a 3/4 helmet that covers your ears -or- c) crank the tunes up -or- d) put ear plugs in. Methods c & d being the least expensive.
  12. In defense of my statement, I was never a supporter of slick 50. Back in the day when the product was being pushed by everyone's next door neighbor, I generally scoffed at their "claims". I mentioned "slick 50" because it was the first thing that came to mind. (a testament of their advertising LOL). I did google it and was very suprised to find that it was manufactured by Quacker State, a company who's oil was always highly respected and widely used. This thread is very interesting and it never ceases to amaze me the wealth of knowledge such threads can provide. ps, do y'all like MY FONT?
  13. I'd still think a multi-viscosity oil would be best; however, possibly a 20w50 weight or maybe some kind of additive such as slick 50 or the like. If only the tranny's were separate from the crankcase eh...
  14. I don't know about others but mine consists of a hole reamer, a plug tool, some plugs, and some plug cement. All of which are available at places like Canadian Tire, Walmart, etc. Oh yea, and a bottle of RideOn. Speaking of RideOn, when I had my tire replaced, the guy at the shop was a little PO'd that I didn't tell him about it. Apparently it splats all over when they break the bead and remove the tire! Said had he known, he would have put rags around.
  15. and that was on a 20% grade...with a tailwind to boot :D
  16. If you wind her out side-by-side with a 1st gen, when you can't go any faster and the 1st gen is showin you his taillights, then that's as fast as an RSV can go! :rotf::witch_brew:
  17. That sure sounds inviting! Unfortunately, I've used up all my holiday time so the only other option is to quit my job, retire, rack up my credit cards, and head on out (yeahsureright!).
  18. I'm on my way ! (I wish)

  20. is it me or??? those links don't work and I logged in. I get the message "The topic or post you requested does not exist" ....??
  21. That's great! I don't mean to "rain on your parade" but... that sorta reminds me of the time I was coaching Bantam league softball... my team won first place in our division... the deal was tho... we were the only team in "that division"! LOL I cherish that trophy to this day.
  22. ahhhhhhhh whatever would we do if it weren't for Ontario? :witch_brew:
  23. I tried that but I still prefer BBQ'd skunk thighs...
  24. They will have as much luck proving collusion amongst the automakers as they do (did) with the oil companies... Now I wonder how much of our TAX DOLLARS are being squandered on this?
  25. Thanks for the info but I already know how it works.
