  1. I did the same to mine and never even thought about putting anything back in. One of the main things I took out was the center baffle coz it was loose. Never noticed any performance change but the exhaust is certainly quieter (no more pieces rattling around). BTW, that metal is stainless steel so needs proper welding. I wouldn't be painting it unless you're going to show it off in a bike show with a mirror underneath...
  2. Kit, I really enjoy reading your posts. You have a lot of good stuff to say so don't ever stop. However, I just can't agree with you on this one and I felt the need to voice that. For the most part, you're right but there are times when it is totally unavoidable and in those cases, it is not "our" fault. Sure, we need to be accountable for our own actions (or should I say lack of actions) but a person just can't possibly anticipate everything beforehand. I just watched a movie last night called Next with Nicolas Cage. Now, if we had that ability, then your statement would be 100% true.
  3. I've got several bulbs that go dormant over winter and wonderful plants pop up in the spring... each one is very light but put them all together and they're heavy....
  4. and one more (me) to state that he thought we were referring to a ceiling lightbulb (not a headlight lightbulb)
  5. congrats on the new scoot but ... DITTO BuddyRich... what the h*&%L are you doing on here???
  6. hhmmmmmm do I smell a Forum Lurker???
  7. My last 3 bikes have been '83 Wing, '85 VR, and now an '87 VR. It was 5 years between the Wing and the '85 VR. I had trouble getting used to the weight and top heaviness of it. Once I did, it was great...even 2 up. I test rode a new RSV back in June and had the wife on the back with me. I am a slender guy, 5' 11", small boned, weigh appx 150. She's 5' 10" and weighs a few lbs more than me. I had no "real" problems with balance on the '07 RSV, even at slow, parking lot speeds and manouevers. What I do recall though, when I was still learning the balance thing with my '85 is that for a while, I was a bit scared of it (the top heaviness) and found that it took me quite a while to overcome that. Once I did and gained confidence, I could go just about anywhere with that scoot and absolutely loved it in the twisties, even riding 2 up. I guess what it all boils down to is getting to know the characteristics of your scoot and how to counteract, becoming one with it and having confidence.
  8. dang, I almost forgot about this one... I was around 18 at the time. My friend had a scoot of some kind and he took me riding one day. We were at the local beach where all the "kids" hang out and he was "cruising" along the beach, chekkin out the babes. Can't imagine why but he forgot I was on the back ... Being the show-off he was, he cracked the throttle. I was also chekkin out the babes and wasn't holding on and there was no sissy bar so, when he cracked the throttle here I am, teetering on the back edge of the seat, arms and legs flailing trying to balance and stop my impending fall...to no avail. I fell off the back of the bike, landed flat on my back in the sand and watched my friend carry on his merry way totally oblivious to what had happened. Course, all the babes and any guys that were around were killin theirselves with laughter.
  9. I had an '85 VR before. When I sold it, I knew I would buy another...and I did. I've sat on RSV's, test drove them, read all the posts in here about them, watched a video of one, ....heck, I even dream about an RSV so, there's no doubt in my mind that I will be getting one when finances are in place (either next summer or summer 2009).

I couldn't hear it but that scoot sounds good!
  11. As you may recall, Nina is 5' 10" and yanno what?... she can kick muh butt too! (beginning to wonder if maybe I like it...)
  12. ssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...you're exposing my secret and those environmental cops might be watchin!
  13. OK, you know in those western movies where the cowboy takes a flying leap and lands on his horse..... Tried that once but the horse was my scoot and I approached it from the left side. Yep, I landed on the seat alright but the momentum caused me and the scoot to fall over on the right. Of course, I was a bit inebriated and showing off... my buddies all got a good laugh outta that!
  14. Many of the places I've lived, there aren't too many choices. In some cases, there's one road in and one road out and one road to follow. The destination never changes. Down in this part of the Province (lower mainland of BC), there are several different routes one can take to eventually get to the same place which, in many cases, is inevitable coz it's the only route you can go to get beyond there. For example, if you want to get to the interior towns, you either have to go through Hope, BC or Whistler, BC. There's only one route to Whistler. You can take a number of different routes and back country roads on your way to Hope but eventually, there are only 2 ways into Hope, and 2 ways out. One bypasses it and you can head north (Fraser Canyon) or you can go into Hope and head East. The other is a freeway that bypasses Hope. From there you can head North or East. Hope is a small town that is very busy with summer traffic...people stopping for gas, food, etc... almost all bikers stop there on their way into the interior or vice versa.
  15. I use a round drain pan I got at Canadian Tire years and years ago. It's about 4" deep and has a "V" lip on one side for pouring the old oil out. Disposing of the old oil is a bit of a problem tho because you just can't dump it anywhere.
  16. Since we are on this topic, I just thought of something which relates. Do those of you riding a 2nd gen who have or still own a 1st gen find the 2nd gen heavier than the 1st gen?.... more difficult to lift off the sidestand? .... easier or harder to get on and off the bike?? Got me wondering now what to expect when I move up to a 2nd gen.
  17. hey Jack... I met you and your wife... remember? Now, I don't wanna get anyone in trouble here but she didn't look anywhere near 180 to me.... startin another family???
  18. DITTO that. I also steady the bike by pressing my thighs against the bike so I not only have my arms holding it steady, but also my legs. As for balancing at a stop sign, my wife is very good at knowing that she should not be "jerking" around. I complimented her on that yesterday. Told her that of all the people I've had on the back of a bike, she is without question the best. What's amazing to me about this is that she only started riding on a motorcycle with me 2 summers ago...she'd never been on one before. Only once got into a sandy situation where I almost lost it. Again, she was good because she did not try to do the driving by counter reacting but instead, sat still and let me do the man-handling.
  19. :witch_brew: I'm curious how many of you that are against helmet laws or the wearing of them have or do work in some kind of industrial environment where it is mandatory to wear a hard hat? Do you have the same opinion about wearing those hard hats? The fact is that the wearing of hard hats and the wearing of helmets SAVES LIVES and PREVENTS SERIOUS HEAD INJURIES and in so doing saves all of us from FOOTING THE BILL to look after you when you are all screwed up after a serious head injury. That costs all of us in one way or another. hey, just stirring the pot here but that's a fact.
  20. yes, thom is right... let's not put down those folks who choose not to protect themselves from the dangers of living for it is only those people who will suffer the consequences... or is it? unfortunately, thom has a valid point when put into his perspective.
  21. I don't know any different than riding with a helmet. It's always been the law here and I can't recall a time when I saw anyone riding without one. Those who do have nothing in their head to protect anyways so all I can say to them is... PUT A FRIGGIN HELMET ON!
  22. I'm just a bit concerend about a guy who wears a bra.....
  23. it does? must be something wrong with my fridge!
  24. Came across an '06 RSTD with 800Kms on it yesterday. Dealer was asking $12,500. They also had a new ('07) Midnight Venture with price of $20,488. How do these prices stack up against those south of the 49th?
