Thanks for verifying my own "thoughts" about this. I have also discovered that having an HD "box" will improve the quality of non-HD channels because the box can convert the analog feed into digital signal which the HDTV works best on.

I read through a few threads but couldn't come up with the specific answer although I'm pretty sure what the answer is, just need someone to verify my thoughts. HD TV .... does not need HD cable feed for TV...can use standard "cable TV" ... correct? 'nuther question... when viewing standard cable TV feed, is the clarity of the picture as good as or less than that of a non HD TV?

Parking in marked stalls..ediquite and safety
SilvrT replied to tony h's topic in Safety and Education
I'd think you'd have to look into your local by-laws for that. In any event, that really sucks. We have a "town" near here that is quite popular with tourists and locals alike as the main "strip" is right on the beach. Lots of clubs, dining, picknicking, shopping,.... They have actually put in smaller parking spots just for motorcycles. Of course, 2 of those spots make up 1 regular car spot. And yes, each have it's own meter. -
geeeesshhhhhh.... the way these "cream puffs" are bein snatched up, there won't be any left when I'm ready! :crying: congrats on the "new" scoot... I am envious!

Tools? you actually carry tools? I would have said to them "Tools? what are those? Never, ever, ever would I need tools riding a YAMAHA!"

During that whole trip, I did not see any 2nd gen's .... prolly coz they knew they wouldn't be able to keep up with me so they just didn't try. :witch_brew:

Good GAWD!!!!!!! that's almost 100 kilometers per hour. You musta been FLYING to maintain that average! Now, in the case of the 1st gen, was it really the bike that crapped out or the rider? It's important you know to clarify this as we don't want to be falsely implying that a 1st gen can't keep up with a 2nd gen yanno!

I left Vancouver, BC at 11AM Friday, Aug 17th and was in Biggar, Sask 24 hrs later. A total of 1734 kms (1077 miles). I seriously doubt I will ever attempt that again.

My feelings exactly. Sometimes we are all too quick to "point the finger".

Several years ago I bought a new truck. I pulled off the freeway on an off-ramp onto a 4 lane street. Once on the street, I needed to get over into the left lane. I checked my mirrors, looked right, looked left, it was clear so I changed lanes. At the same time, I could hear a motorcycle. When I looked (mirrors, right, left, etc) I didn't see anyone. Next thing I knew, I could hear a crash...I looked again and here was this biker floped over on the center median behind me. I stopped, checked that he was ok (thank god he was) and I helped him get his bike up and back on the street. He wasn't hurt, the bike was ok. I talked with him a bit and discovered that he was a new rider. I had cut him off. He was coming up in the left lane faster than me and when I began changing lanes, he "froze"... in other words, instead of taking evasive action ie braking, etc... he just froze and hit the curb which knocked him off his bike. OK, so I screwed up because I wasn't familiar yet with my new truck's blind spot. He also screwed up coz he didn't react and brake. Thankfully again that he was ok. I immediately purchased some convex mirrors to put on my side mirrors. The point here is that in some way, we were both at fault. Now, hypothetically, if that person had somehow fallen badly, broke his neck and died.... am I a low-life? should I lose my license for life and go to jail? ...exactly what punishment should I receive which would be in addition to the guilt and memory of what I'd done which I would have for the rest of my life? ... Had he died, would anyone know of his inexperience and that instead of braking to avoid me, he "froze" and hit the curb when in reality, he had sufficient time to brake and avoid that (his own admittance)? Because of the above, I do not agree with that petition. Each and every "accident" is as individual as our fingerprints and each one has to be treated that way. We can't just globally increase the punishment "just because" someone died or "just because" it was a biker.

There are a number of bikes including the 1st gen that have the mirrors mounted to the fairing which is frame mounted. Many other bikes including the 2nd gen have handlebar mounted mirrors. One thing I really like about frame mounted fairings with fairing mounted mirrors is that regardless of the direction of the front wheel, the mirrors are always showing what's directly behind. Having ridden such style of bike for a long time now, I'm wondering how easy/difficult it will be to get used to the handlebar mounted mirrors again. While there are pros and cons for both mirror styles, I feel I'd have less visibility with the handlebar mounted mirrors and since they are positioned more to the side of you than the fairing mounted ones, it causes your eyes to look further away from the center in order to see what's behind thus in effect, taking your eyes "off the road ahead" more. Anyone have thoughts/opinions about this?

Has Anyone Cleaned Out Their Collectors?
SilvrT replied to 86er's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I did the same to mine and never even thought about putting anything back in. One of the main things I took out was the center baffle coz it was loose. Never noticed any performance change but the exhaust is certainly quieter (no more pieces rattling around). BTW, that metal is stainless steel so needs proper welding. I wouldn't be painting it unless you're going to show it off in a bike show with a mirror underneath... -
Kit, I really enjoy reading your posts. You have a lot of good stuff to say so don't ever stop. However, I just can't agree with you on this one and I felt the need to voice that. For the most part, you're right but there are times when it is totally unavoidable and in those cases, it is not "our" fault. Sure, we need to be accountable for our own actions (or should I say lack of actions) but a person just can't possibly anticipate everything beforehand. I just watched a movie last night called Next with Nicolas Cage. Now, if we had that ability, then your statement would be 100% true.

I've got several bulbs that go dormant over winter and wonderful plants pop up in the spring... each one is very light but put them all together and they're heavy.... -

My last 3 bikes have been '83 Wing, '85 VR, and now an '87 VR. It was 5 years between the Wing and the '85 VR. I had trouble getting used to the weight and top heaviness of it. Once I did, it was great...even 2 up. I test rode a new RSV back in June and had the wife on the back with me. I am a slender guy, 5' 11", small boned, weigh appx 150. She's 5' 10" and weighs a few lbs more than me. I had no "real" problems with balance on the '07 RSV, even at slow, parking lot speeds and manouevers. What I do recall though, when I was still learning the balance thing with my '85 is that for a while, I was a bit scared of it (the top heaviness) and found that it took me quite a while to overcome that. Once I did and gained confidence, I could go just about anywhere with that scoot and absolutely loved it in the twisties, even riding 2 up. I guess what it all boils down to is getting to know the characteristics of your scoot and how to counteract, becoming one with it and having confidence.

dang, I almost forgot about this one... I was around 18 at the time. My friend had a scoot of some kind and he took me riding one day. We were at the local beach where all the "kids" hang out and he was "cruising" along the beach, chekkin out the babes. Can't imagine why but he forgot I was on the back ... Being the show-off he was, he cracked the throttle. I was also chekkin out the babes and wasn't holding on and there was no sissy bar so, when he cracked the throttle here I am, teetering on the back edge of the seat, arms and legs flailing trying to balance and stop my impending fall...to no avail. I fell off the back of the bike, landed flat on my back in the sand and watched my friend carry on his merry way totally oblivious to what had happened. Course, all the babes and any guys that were around were killin theirselves with laughter.
