  1. So, are ya gonna share them with us or what?
  2. those danged "Jones's"... they always show up at the most inopportune times....
  3. Nuthin wrong with this advice .... except....be very selective of the people you go the extra mile for...pick the ones who can do the most good for YOU.
  4. hehe.. no I didn't but I can tell ya, it's not an uncommon attitude. Further to what someone else said here... "co workers are suck-ups" and "watch your back" ... how very true that is... I've been stabbed in the back and had the knife twisted by a few so-called "friend" co-workers over the years and I've seen it happen to others also. DON'T TRUST ANYONE that you work with is my motto. Never give out any secrets about yourself and never confide in a co-worker... it will come back and bite ya right in the tush one day. You're number ONE... so look out for yourself FIRST coz everyone else does for themselves. Gawd, am I tainted or what? LOL I have a really good job now that I hope will take me thru to retirement. I do my "thing" and stay the h3LL out of office politics and don't make friends with anyone else who works there. I look after ME. I do my job, get my pay, and go home at the end of my day and forget about it.
  5. Instead of pushing it, he probably pulled it over on top of hisself and is stuck there...
  6. I don't think you're losing air....are you? When you switch the key, the display just zero's out coz it's not set at either front or rear. Just press the appropriate button to see what you got. Well, I'm sitting here at work and I think that's how that goes.... I never really thought much of it so kinda going from what my "memory" serves.
  7. thanks... figgured that's what you meant... aka a "come-along" ... cheap like borstch at Walmart or Crappy tire. I'm now wondering if those ratchet-type tie-downs might also work..??
  8. OK, I'll bite... what is a "4:1 purchase" ?
  9. awrite spear... just exactly what do you mean by "professional services"??? hehehehehe (gawd I got a filthy mind) :rotf:
  10. That's a great idea... I'll be keeping that concept in mind for when I retire. Have a great winter!
  11. That has been circulating as an email for a while now and even though it is legitimate, the fact that there are so many links within it, it tends to hang some peoples computers up. They all share a common link... http://www.northpole.com/Kitchen/Cookbook/ and you can get to all those recipes from there without the mess of all the links listed one after the other and that each link opens in a new window, takes longer to load than accessing them from the actual web site. I posted this separate just in case the original thread did lock someone's PC up.

  13. This probably won't provide you with much direction on this but if you don't mind, I'd like to share some of my thoughts. First of all, one of the things I've learned over the years and working for many different companies and bosses is this... no matter how much "extra" you give ... they will only remember when you screw up. When you give extra to try and impress the "boss", are you being paid? In many cases, we do these little extra things, work longer to "finish up", take the night deposit and drop it off on our way home, etc, etc.... outside of our regular shift... all in the name of being the "good guy" ... What happens is they then expect this of you and the more they can get from you, the better for them....you give an inch, they take a mile... for all the extra you do, it makes your boss look good in the eyes of their boss...and so on. Once in a while a person comes across a boss who really appreciates this sort of thing and rewards you for it and treats you with dignity and respect. It's been my experience that is a rare find. My philosophy is do the best you can within your paid shift...if they want anything extra of you, let them ask and ensure they will pay for it. Make sure schedule changes, duties changes, or anything else that changes is somehow clarified and documented. Most "bosses" will not jeopardize their position for the sake of their staff member, especially if they've only held the "boss" position for a short time. As for advice, try and work through this with this new "manager" and if you aren't getting anywhere, go over their head with it. I may well have a sceptical approach to such things but quite frankly, I am willing to bet that I have worked for more employers than anyone and I have for many years been mr "good guy" and done all those "extra" things....only to find out that, in the end, it RARELY pays off. For the past 20 years, I was self employed and during that time I swore I would never again become someone's "employee"....but, things change and here I am working for someone again. Only this time, I don't give those little "extra's" without ensuring that both of us are clear on what I am doing and how much I'm being reimbursed for it. That I learned from so many let downs when I was employed before and during the years of self employment, ensuring both myself and my clients knew exactly what I was doing for them and for how much. Well anyway, sorry for rambling on but... this is what I "think" about this stuff. Hope it all works out well for you...I can certainly empathize with your frustrations.
  14. SilvrT ... short for Silver Tongue Devil .... given to me by a certain lady friend cuz I smooth-talked her into dating me. The signature... There's an old saying that you can fix just about anything as long as you have a ball-peen hammer. Silicone works wonders and has to be one of the greatest inventions since sliced bread so, .......
  15. dang... and all this time I thought the "Lead" part meant... Lead (pronounced /ˈlɛd/) is a chemical element in the periodic table that has the symbol Pb (Latin: plumbum) and atomic number 82. A soft, heavy, toxic and malleable poor metal, lead is bluish white when freshly cut but tarnishes to dull gray when exposed to air. Lead is used in building construction, lead-acid batteries, bullets and shot, weights for model railroad cars, and is part of solder, pewter, and fusible alloys. Lead has the highest atomic number of all stable elements, although the next element, bismuth, has a half life so long (longer than the estimated age of the universe) it can be considered stable. Like mercury, another heavy metal, lead is a potent neurotoxin which accumulates in soft tissues and bone over time. :rotf::rotf:
  16. To a large extent I wholeheartedly agree...but how do we fairly compensate for those others who do similar work but get little or no tips. ie the "Golden Arches" worker (just an example). I note from that website you posted that the reduction to $6.95/hr from $8.00/hr is for "Liquor Servers"... not just "servers". From reading that ....and correct me if I'm wrong... it means if you work in a place that serves food only (no liquor) then you get $8 but if the place goes out and gets a liquor lic and starts serving beer & wine then your wage is $6.95 . I guess the govn't thinks that drunk people tip better!!!
  17. You're doing what I WANT to do! Good on ya! What kind of place do you live in in Texas?... your own house, rented place? mobile trailer? tent? friends?
  18. The best time is in the early spring when snow skiing is best coz Lake Louise is famous for it's snow skiing. Seriously though, late July, early Aug is probably the best for summer as the weather is the warmest then.... as for weather, it can vary a lot in spring, summer and fall; however, it's generally not bad once the spring rains have passed. I lived in Calgary, Alberta from '82 thru '92 and rode my Wing through Banff / Lake Louise many times on my way to British Columbia to visit in-laws. Never really had a need to stay overnight there but it's definately beautiful country and if you're into nature & hiking...you can't go wrong there.
  19. After polling the girls, their average sales for a shift is around $950 and their average tips are around $100. So that would suggest that the average tipper tips around 10%. Of course, these girls only give superlative customer service so having said that, I am must be in the "average" category. I guess they're not doing very well then......or maybe us Canucks are just cheap...
  20. Sorry, I was PMSing when I wrote that....
  21. Grease??... what grease??? I think I'd be screaming at Yamaha about that!
  22. heck, I'm already addicted to these forums LOL.. I'm here reading and posting almost every day.... if I go to the chat too, they'll be coming in white gowns to haul me away... LOL just kidding of course.
  23. Good post..we certainly need a "reminder" sometimes. It's sometimes difficult to take an unbiased approach to things you strongly believe or disbelieve in. One of the problems with what we type is exactly that, "what we type". Meaning that it is sometimes very difficult to read in a tone that it was intended due to our own feelings at the time, the writers inability to effectively articulate, and many other reasons. There is no "realness" to the typed words other than that which we conjure up in our minds, which can be adversely affected by our mood.
  24. That then being correct, at that wage ($6.95/hr)... working full time all year long, the max wages she'd earn is around $14,500 for the year. 10% of that is $1450 for a total income of $15950. Now, I've been in business for myself for 20 yrs, took personal and small business tax prep courses and done my own taxes for all those years plus taxes for others. If this is the correct scenario (I'm reading you correctly), then that 10% will amount to next to nothing in additional tax and being that she's a liquor server, I doubt very much that she'd ever make less than that ($1450) in one year in tips. That's like getting $27 in tips for a whole week and I know for a fact that is highly unlikely that anyone serving liquor would make that little in a whole week (at least not around here). My wifes twin daughters (they're 23) are both waitresses and both have their bartender's licences. They both work in "trendy" restaurants that have bars and it's not uncommon for them to make $150 in ONE EVENING in tips. So, I guess what I'm trying to say here is... if all you have to do is report an additional 10% income on a min wage of $6.95/hr and you're making decent tips, then that little additional tax you have to pay is really nothing to be quibbling about. Having said all that, if I offended you, please accept my apologies. The fact that those girls can make $150 in one evening in tips brings up a whole 'nuther take on this discussion. Did they make that because they are exceptional servers or does it have more to do with the establishment and the clientelle?
  25. There are 3 reason's why I don't come to the chat room... 1. I much prefer spending my evenings with my wife. 2. I spent so much time in chat rooms between the years 2000 & 2005 it was unbelievable. I was a "chataholic". I chatted with so may people from all over the world...even met a few of them. I believe it was one of the "catalysts" in the breakup of my last marriage. 3. By the time you start chatting 9pm eastern, I am fast asleep here on the west coast.
