  1. Ditto on what Don says... but, I've been down to California a couple times and found I had to put some Octane Booster in otherwise the pinging was so bad I thought the engine was coming apart.
  2. I like those "wash mitts" ....
  3. Yep, I saw your scoot ... mine is the black 1st gen to the left (in the pic) of the one with the etchings... Nina's standing by it. That black RSMV one is owned by morrell69 (Dave). Too bad we didn't connect ... oh well, another day eh? I'd like to get another meet 'n eat going for later on in June.
  4. Weather couldn't be better! Appx 1000 bikers showed up. Police escort from the Harley shop all the way out to Port Moody. Rode to Sasquatch park at Harrison Lake...lunch there...then to Cultis Lake (poker run stop)...via the back roads to Fraser downs in Cloverdale for the wrapup celebrations. BBQ burgers, beer, live band, ... this was the first annual Ride for Dad and by all accounts, a huge success! Excluding corporate donations, the bikers alone raised over $100,000. Not sure what the total raised was with corporate donations but I know of at least a $5000 and a $10,000 donation! I didn't see many of our local VR members (from this site) ... some of you were there. Only saw one other 1st gen .... there were by my count 5 2nd gen's. but in amongst 1000 bikes, I "might" have missed one or two LOL. Pics didn't turn out so great...wife's daughter had been using the camera and must have mucked with some of the settings but here some of them are... (The guy kneeling on the ground next to me & Nina was fixing a bad oil leak on his relatively new Harley Ultra ... he'd had it in at the shop the day before for servicing and whoever did it, didn't tighten the drain plug properly. Gotta watch out for crap like that...I'll bet he'll have a few choice words for that shop)
  5. Same thing happened to me and I was concerned at first. Assurances from others on here were that I just needed to wiggle the driveshaft some and it would slide in...and it did! Depending on the angle of the u-joint yoke may cause it to be more difficult. Seems I recall reading somewhere in here about using a wire or something to adjust it.
  6. Ubuntu is probably the easiest version of Linux a "novice" user could test out. I say go for it .... I use OpenSUSE myself but have tested and experimented with Ubuntu and it's variants, Red Hat, and a couple of the others.
  7. I can't comment on that hookup arrangement; however, I recently got an XM receiver for $30 and with the subscription of $15/month (that's the highest rate coz I only took it for 3 months), I get somewhere around 150 channels and I think it's great! the XM receiver communicates with the built-in stereo via an FM channel and the antenna is a very small device that sits on my dash, barely noticeable.
  8. yep... been there ... done that one too! and yep.... had a good laff
  9. If you put it in front of me... I'll eat it!
  10. Helping to fight prostate cancer... http://www.motorcycleridefordad.org/van/ I'm wondering who from this area is going to this ride? Hope to see ya there!
  11. is it another "FaceBook"? gawd I hate that program!
  12. Ride for Dad is next weekend over here. For sure we'll be attending. Will follow up with info then.
  13. I look at it this way... since I never do any maintenance to the battery...don't take it out, don't have to put it on a battery tender...don't have to give it a trickle charge... nothing...nada.... and it cranks the bike over no problem....every time....even after sitting for close to 2 month's.... then that is worth the extra expense to me. Whatever works for others is their choice.
  14. I'll NEVER be that old !! (at least not in my mind...) (61 just around the corner but I'm only 35 according to my mind...now if my body would only get on the same wave length!)
  15. uhhhh.... dumb question.... are you installing them in the right direction?
  16. ya... how does one ever know if such a thing works or not... the only way you know if it doesn't is not the way you want to find out! well, coincidence or not, I've had them on all my vehicles for the past 15 or more years and haven't hit a deer... knock on wood! On the other hand, before I started using them I never hit any deer either....????? go figgure
  17. It's hard to take...these stories that pop up on here...sometimes one a week...about someone crashing. I've been lucky. Had many close calls...especially last summer when I did a 24 hr ride out to Saskatchewan...rode thru high deer country in the middle of the night...there were a lot of deer...almost hit one that had recently been hit by a trucker and was still laying in the middle of my lane...thank gawd for the many years of riding and the built-in reactions. Can't say if they really work or not but I have those "deer whistles" on my bike ... Wishing you a speedy recovery...
  18. not a bad time to consider replacing the bearings and seals as well...
  19. I use the irridium plugs in mine and used them in my '85 also. I have no problems starting mine at all....even after sitting for almost 2 month's... full choke....crank her over...fires right up...back choke off to half way and let her warm up. She does have that real slow cranking issue when hot tho but so did my '85. She starts on the second crank every time so I don't get too concerned about it. one thing I've found and that is to not go cheap on the battery. I used to buy $90 Canadian tire batteries for my '85 ... they'd last no more than 2 years and I'd always have to take them out over winter and charge them up before using first time in spring. This one I got now (can't even remember what it is) cost at least double... I'm on my 3rd season with it...never loses it's charge...don't take it out...it's great!
  20. hmmmmmmm I notice you seem to have some spare time..... wazzzup?... yer 2nd gen broke down again?? :witch_brew: :witch_brew:
  21. Never heard of M/C inspections in Canada...at least BC & AB. We have to do emissions testing on our cars and light duty pickups every couple years but they have to be 7 years old or older. There is oftentimes random check stops for commercial trucks/busses, etc which is a good thing coz many of them fail.
  22. oh geeez.... here we go AGAIN!!
  23. Hence...more "fin count" ... which translates to better cooling.
  24. maybe his name has something to do with it...( Midnight...) ...
  25. Wouldn't a thicker core just make the rad require more coolant to be cooled? Seems to me it's the amount of exposed fins that would provide more (or less) cooling effect...???
