Really hard to find one of these for sale around here and if it's a private deal, I don't want to bother the owner just so I can get to road test it. I have looked at a new ones but never road tested. Eventually tho, I will. Got at least a year before I'll be ready to get a newer ride. Just doing a lot of comparisons for now. Cruise control.... heck, I've used the cruise once...no, twice in the last 9 or 10 years... once on my '85 and once on this one.... both times was when I was on a major freeway with minimal traffic riding solo doing 140 plus. Fact is, most of my riding rarely takes me onto such highways (when there is minimal traffic). The freeways around here are so busy, cruise is useless. I never noticed any pinging on these 2 bikes. Aside from fuel injection, from 2005 on, the engines are 1600 cc (not 1500), have hydraulic lifters, and crank balancers... they are fairly smooth for a V-twin I thought.

Went and road tested a couple Kawasaki Vulcan Nomads on Sat. First one was a '08 .... not a bad price either ( $11,700) brand new. Second one was a '06 for $8,800 ... had 19k km's on it...very clean and the only extras were Vance & Hines slip-on's and nicer hand grips. I like the looks of these scoots and have been toying with the idea of getting one. They were quite comfortable to ride... even Nina was impressed...we both thought they would be considerably rougher. She liked the rumble of the V-twin and the V&H slip-ons. I did find them considerably under powered tho...a lot less than I expected for a 1600cc V-twin and no match... not even close to my VR. Am wondering what improvements can be done power wise... I know I could get a power commander or something like that. Anyone have any thoughts on this. Was also wondering why these bikes which are fuel injected have a manual choke???

DITTO! Insofar as "engine braking" goes, it should be taught to drivers from the beginning, even with auto trans .... over use of the brakes causes them to wear out pre-maturely, not to mention possible fading due to excessive heat. I can't believe the numbers of people nowadays who ride their brakes unnecessarilly. Such habits cause confusion and sometimes accidents to the drivers behind. For instance, driving along the freeway the other day, a driver changed lanes from left lane to right lane...as soon as he got into the right lane, he applied his brakes (just enuf for the brake lights to come on)...yet there was nothing immediately in front of him. I was a couple vehicles back, in the left lane... the 2 drivers behind the guy that changed lanes also applied their brakes, just because the first guy did...because, they were confused ...thinking the first guy was slowing down... this caused a bit of a chain reaction whereby the 2 cars behind actually slowed, causing all the other traffic behind to slow a bit... it's like a freight train effect... I've seen the traffic on the freeway come to a complete stop yet there is absolutely nothing hindering the normal flow...and its usually because of something like this. I hate those kind of drivers!

Water pump knock
SilvrT replied to MasterGuns's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
LOL!! well, in my case, it isn't the collector coz I put a new one on my '85 and on this scoot, I've gutted the collector. -
I did it on my Honda 500-4 with one gauge... took quite a while as I recall but I did it.

Water pump knock
SilvrT replied to MasterGuns's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I get that noise too... but it doesn't happen all the time... seems to happen most when I've been riding it hard and only is noticeable at idle... I had the same thing on my '85...on it I rebuilt the water pump...made no difference. I've also noticed that when the oil gets below the half-way mark on the sight glass, the noise doesn't happen so... I've deduced that it's not really the water pump (although it sounds like it) but something else (clutch maybe) that is close by and the sound emulates near the water pump and is dependant on how much oil is or isn't in the bike. So, in my case, I just ignore it...chalk it up to one of those "peculiar" 1st gen sounds. ps, I've been riding this scoot now for 3 summers with that noise so IMHO, it ain't nuthin to worry about.\ -
What's that old saying... something about 98% of the things that happen we have no direct control over.... I've learned from numerous such experiences that ... a) getting all wound up about it only makes MY life miserable... nobody else's b) all things happen for reasons... trust life and don't sweat over the little things. (just thought I'd share this with ya...)

My son has "stage 1" Screaming Eagle (I think it's called stage 1).... anyway, apparently all that is is some added chrome trim, pipes, and "Screaming Eagle" labels. For the "real" performance parts, one needs "Stage 2". (as I understand it)
