  1. Before this get's into a "bashing" game, I want to make it perfectly clear that that is not my intention... I am in no way bashing Harley or for that matter any other brand.... I just found it a peculiar "oddity" is all. I reference the post by wpredock .... his first words are "a harley rider..." ... why didn't he say "a motorcycle rider..." ??? I simply find this very interesting.... some kind of phsycological thing.... (I guess)
  2. In the situation I'm referring to, it's not so much the Harley riders buying into the "hyped image" (although many of them do), it's most of the other's...even us here but in a lot of cases, the media as well. We all say "Harley rider" .... rarely, if ever, would we say "Yamaha rider" so it's really us who buy into that ..... ya think???
  3. This past Saturday, Nina & I were out for a ride... came up to a red light, we're first out with a looooong straight stretch ahead of us on a 4 laner. Another rider pulls up behind... he just happened to be on a Harley (Dyna / Fat Boy / Deuce ... something like that). Light turns green... I crank it to the red line, no-clutch shift into 2nd...check my mirrors....he's right on my a$$.....redline it, shift again (no clutch).... check mirrors.... hmmmmmmmmmm.... he's fallen a ways behind.... redline it again...shift to 4th..... well, he's a bit further behind but seemingly holding his own.... crank it almost to redline in 4th but then had to shut 'er down...big corner coming up ... tight "S" turn onto a bridge.... wooooooooo what a rush... no idea what speed I got up to but that "one-up" Harley rider...oooops, I mean "motorcycle rider" had no hope of catching me up to that point but he was sure tryin. As we head into the turn, he's in the outside lane almost beside us. Around the "S" we went and I cranked it on some.... hey!!... where'd he go??... Onto the bridge..check mirrors...ahhhhhhh there he is....seems he couldn't handle that "S" turn so quickly! I LOVE MY 1st GEN!
  4. come to think of it.... I really don't know...
  5. yesssss... a motorcycle ride! that will do it! Now if only I wasn't at work! hmmmmmmm.... my son's scoot is at my place... I could go for a Harley ride this evening!
  6. It struck me today that whenever anyone brings something up about motorcycle riders, if the person happened to be on a Harley, they say "Harley rider" but whenever it's some other make involved, they generally only say "motorcycle rider" or "guy on a crotch-rocket", etc.... Why not "Yamaha rider" or "Kawasaki rider" or "guy on a Ninja", etc??? Why do we single out certain ones such as "Harley" and not the others? Better yet, why pay so much attention to them...why not put them in the same class as "motorcycle rider"??? awrite... it's pretty obvious.... I'm bored!
  7. I've posted several times about refinishing my scoot with spray cans .... you can achieve pretty decent results. Check out this product for clear coating... http://www.u-pol.com/countries/en/navigate.htm When I did mine, I had an auto paint supplier fill a spray bomb with automotive paint.... did a great job and I used that clear. You will have to power polish it after it cures to get the best results; however, it's pretty decent without the polishing.
  8. Unfortunately, sooner or later all of us will either have to accept Vista -OR- switch to MAC or Linux ... and unfortunately, MAC and Linux will get "some" but most will be going to Vista... Next year we will be replacing all our workstations and I'm sure not looking forward to that although we may well just re-use our Windows XP and sell off the old PC's without an OS or maybe stick Linux onto them. We have no choice other than sticking with Windows (something) due to the design of our network and the apps running on it.
  9. I don't use Vista but in XP, if you don't want a password, do the above but for the new password, don't enter anything... then, when it boots and prompts for a login, just hit Enter (no password required)
  10. ...or as the Italian guy said... "you toucha my ride .... I busta you face" ...another one... "surviving trespassers will be prosecuted"
  11. Dang!!! this made me laugh! :rotf: (thinkin about my son here LOL)
  12. Somebody go key this guy's scoot...
  13. too much information!! LOL
  14. Yup... that's gotta be it... c'mon RAIN... I need more WET WEATHER riding time!! Actually tho, this summer is turning out great! I'm luvvin it!
  15. Maybe for some but I've red-lined my scoot and done the no-clutch shift a number of times...no problemo...ya just gotta make sure you have good pressure on the shifter (not so much that you'd be bending anything) and a full follow-through on the upshift. It takes a very small "backoff" on the throttle but watch out!... in some cases you'll pull the front wheel up. Soon as the shift grabs (which is almost instantaneous), roll on the throttle.... it's a rush! I've no-clutch shifted almost every bike I've owned. I do it under "normal" riding as well as when I'm "cranking it on"; however, I almost always use the clutch between 1st and 2nd. It works the opposite... as you're decelerating, put a little down pressure on the shifter, crack the throttle as though your speeding up....it downshifts... although this is a bit trickier to get the hang of, it does work and once you got it figgured out, not all that difficult to do. I don't do clutch-less downshifts much at all tho on a regular basis.
  16. That sucks big time... I feel for ya Don. A couple months or so back there was a "keying rampage" going on around here. Some idiot(s) were keying hundreds of cars in various parking lots. The insurance co was going nuts, not to mention the body shops. Take a relatively new vehicle (or any vehicle for that matter), key it along the side...front fender, doors, rear fender... that adds up to a lot of bucks to repair! Someone finally caught the jerk doing it and attacked him... beat him up some before the cops arrived LOL (well, that's the story I heard...hope it's true). I tell ya, if I came across some punk doing that, I think the cops would find him in the emerg!
  17. Ditto on the tires! Mine whined on right hand curves at higher speed (ie. 40-50 mph & up) ... Had a reasonably good Venom X ... got a nail in it so changed it to new one...same kind... whine gone... got about 8K on it now... whine is coming back.
  18. so does this mean in all aspects of your life... you'll be swinging to the left?
  19. well, it's got wheels on it... I guess ya could TOW it !
  20. Speaking of which, what's the "normal interval" one should consider syncing the carbs? It's good if you have your own carb-sync tool...you can check it any time you want but when you've gotta take it to a dealer or get a buddie who has the sync tool, one would not want to be doing that every other day (so to speak).
  21. the first quote sounds more realistic to me. I've only had carbs sync'd once and that was on my last scoot (the '85 VR) way back when I got it (around 2000). Seems to me it cost around your first quote figure at that time. Based on the time and current shop rates around here, that's pretty much in-line. (just my 2 cents)
  22. COOL!!!... my question is tho... how the heck do you carry that JACK around with ya?
  23. heck, I'd GIVE mine to ya.... but then, my scoot would fall over ! .... sorry ;-)
  24. .... and you know this... HOW??? :witch_brew:
  25. I concur... mine is around 4200 @ 75mph yet my '85 would be closer to 3600 or somewhere around that so I'm thinking my rear end is from a vmax. Ok...Ok... not "MY" rear end... the bike's!! geeez
