I had a similar issue on my '87. I decided to switch to full synthetic (I know...BAD idea). Immediately after that I noticed clutch slippage under hard acceleration in either 4th or 5th gears. It wasn't doing that before. I (almost) immediately changed the oil back to non-synthetic "motorcycle-specific" oil. Clutch continued to slip and I did the 3000 mile trip to VWIV (Los Osos, CA) and back... clutch still slipping under heavy accel in 4th or 5th. Now, I gotta wonder about this "change the springs" thing.....why would an oil change weaken the springs? It would seem to me that the synthetic oil somehow ruined the friction discs and changing out the springs really is not the cure...changing the discs is...wouldn't ya think?

3000 miles between changes is "old school" ... oils are much more technologically advanced nowadays and so are the engines and filters, etc... 5-6000 miles is more appropriate... unless of course, you're driving an "old school" vehicle such as something 25+ years old. best car I ever had was a 1965 pontiac parisienne convertible. never needed and oil change .... it went thru more oil in a month than what a full oil change would take :rotf: just my 3 cents

actually, almost all of the so-called "low mileage" bikes I've seen ads for are from the USA. My last 3 bikes all had close to or over 100,000 km's on them when I bought them. My current '87 has 153,000 kms and my last one (the 85) had 170,000+ when I sold it some 5 years ago. To me, that's about normal for the year so when I see something with 68,000 km on the ODO and it's an '83, I tend to question it. Granted, we're talking kilometers but quick math says the miles.

One thing I dislike about the ODO on these bikes (and maybe it's the same on others, I just haven't looked) and that is they don't display anything beyond 99,999 so how does one really know on these older bikes if it's 68,685Kms or 168,685 ?? Condition alone is not going to prove anything. Having see so many ads for these older bikes with low, low mileage.... in many cases I find it extremely hard to believe.... for example, an '85 with only 9,000 original miles ... my grandfather owned it and it's been sitting for the past 10 years and he only drove it to the grocery store and back... yeahsureright.... I think I'll change my ad for my '87 and see how the responses go.... (am I in a grumpy mood?) :think:

To the oncoming driver, it might appear as though the headlights are on but those are just "running lights" and don't provide enough illumination to see nuffin once it's dark out. Besides, it's the government that forced them to .... blame them LOL As for the drunk driver, everyone knows ya can see ten times better after 6 beers... errrr... well, at least "certain things" lOOk a lot better :rotf:

I would buy the Venture simply because I prefer the looks of it over the Wing. There are other reason's but that one alone is enuf.

I have to envision myself owning it in order to want to test ride it. If I don't think I'd like to own it, I'm usually not too interested in what it sounds like, rides like, etc but, that doesn't mean I close the door coz every ride is a thrill. Well, there was one that really wasn't....a few years ago I test rode an Indian...now that was one bike I just couldn't wait to get off. Funny...I haven't really felt like test riding a Gold Wing :think:

Mebbe nobody is employed at those shops! Well, to a degree, I agree with you but one thing that bugs me when I'm "tire kickin" and that's some overly aggressive sales person tryin to fiddle with my "impulse buttons" LOL Having said that, last weekend I visited the Harley shop and the folks there were real nice...they have lots of staff, they don't "bug" ya...are very friendly and approachable and they all seemed to really like being there. I honestly can't say I've had anywhere close to as good of an experience at any other bike shop.

Well, after watching those vids for an hour and a half, the appearance starts growing on ya... and from all accounts, it appears to be a very impressive ride. Now, I'm not saying I "like" the looks of it....

Not s sure about the quality of accommodations / camping around Creston but staging the rally around the Nelson area opens up numerous possibilities for day rides. One great route would be to take the ferry across the lake from Balfour...ride down the lakeside to Creston, over the Salmo/Creston pass and back to Nelson. Gorgeous country. I first travelled that ferry route when I was a young boy, in the back seat of my parents car. That was the days when the ferry was the only route. There is a house made out of glass bottles along the way that has been there since before my first trip with the parents. I always stop there if for nothing else but the memories.

I have to agree... I've ridden these areas many times and it's absolutely the best. New Denver, Nakusp, Silverton, Slocan, Kaslo, Nelson, Balfour, Kootenay Lake, Ainsworth Hot Springs .... crap, brings back so many memories especially since I was born in Trail, BC and basically grew up in that area. I have no qualms holding a rally there....I'd just be concerned about those folks east of the rockies being able to make it. But, if they could, it would be well worth it for them.

Vic... there will definately not be a Vision in our future... but, there's a very good chance we'll be riding either a new Ultra or one of them Voyagers next summer. Worst case scenario, we'll be on an 02 (or thereabouts) RSV or even worse case scenario to that, our current scoot. Don't get me wrong, we love this '87 but we want to move into a much newer bike and get it paid off before we retire so that we have something fairly new, low mileage that will last us the rest of our days.

I had been thinking RSV ... around 2002 to replace my '87 but wife and I decided to go for new and that leaves out an RSV because the new ones just don't have anything "NEW" to offer so we're looking hard at the '09 Ultra and now also, the new '09 Voyager. Thanks for sharing your experience on the HD.

Good suggestion....wonderful area for sure....personally tho, I would like to see this event take place somewhere in the Kootenays simply because it makes it easier for everyone to get to it (I'm referring to those from Alberta and east of there) ... IMHO.

My last 4 bikes had frame-mount fairings....I am so used to them that fork-mount would seem weird to ride methinks.

years ago, when I lived in Kamloops and after that, in Mara, the "biker rally" in Falkland coincided with the Falkland Stampede....and it was predominately a Hells Angels kinda biker rally. Don't know what it is these days as I haven't been around that area for about 10 yrs. One thing is certain, there are a lotta biker "rallys" in the Thompson/Okanagan/Kootenay areas of BC.

isn't that a Goldwing rally at Merritt ...GWRRA? Besides, Merritt (I think) would not be central enuf for many and not really far enuf for me LOL. So, I won't vote for Merritt LOL
