  1. Exactly "LAN" means Local Area Network or "in-house". This is solely for communicating back and forth between users and primarilly for supervisors and myself to communicate with users. I don't know about Yahoo but years ago, I setup ICQ on a LAN but it was pretty flakey.
  2. hmmmmmm MSN on a LAN? does that really work (I've never tried it)?
  3. hey all you guys 'n gals working in the technology field.... I'm looking for a replacement for our LAN messenging program. We currently use RealPopup which is an enhanced version of WinPop. This program is freeware and unsupported and it's causing me a lot of headaches lately. Frankly, it's a neat program with just the right features for us but with the implementation of recent software, it appears to be clashing and crashing. anyone got any suggestions? We are prepared to pay for software if we have to. I have evaluated a few and the one I found that seemed to be best suited was Softros Instant Messenger. Would be interested in knowing what ya'll might use and/or suggestions. Thanks a bunch
  4. logic tells me that if the idle speed is too low, the vacuum is insufficient to get a good reading on the carbtune. Having the idle up to appx 900 would ensure proper vacuum. I'm just guessing here but to me, it makes sense (logically speaking)...
  5. I have to agree, they are a good shop.
  6. According to my calculations, we're now at $4.50/US gal ($1.19/litre) ... that's a drop of about 97 cents/US gal since summer prices of around $1.445/litre According to recent info, gas prices in Ontario are below $1 / litre and they say we out west pay so much more because of a lack of bulk storage and refining facilities. That's such B/S when the stuff comes out of the ground in both western provinces. Taxes, taxes, and more taxes!! Free Trade??? Democracy??? Competition??? all B/S! They will take from us as much as they can get for as long as they want and when they want more, they will take more.... the longer they can keep us in the poor house, the longer they have control over us and the poorer we are, the more control they have. well, that's my rant for today
  7. I've ridden a few 1500 & 1600 cc Nomads .... IMHO, they're pretty smooth for a V-twin and I never really felt a marked difference except when I lugged the Nomad or when it was idling and even at idle, the vibration was very minimal. Depending on the comfort of the seat, I don't see riding long distances being much problem as it pertains to vibration or power pulses. At least for me. I agree ... I really like the looks of that Voyager and am anxious to test ride one. Speaking of which, Harley Demo dayz is on this coming weekend here so if the weather isn't too crappy, I'll be testing one of the '09 Ultra's.
  8. I believe that is an optional item..possibly 3rd party, I'm not sure. "The intercom headset-compatible, 40W, twin-speaker audio system features a three-band (FM/AM/WX) radio that is also compatible with an iPod, a XM radio tuner or a CB radio unit. The audio system (and iPod) can be operated by an integrated controller on the left handlebar. Besides volume, the rider can adjust the bass, treble and balance levels of the system."
  9. ya mean you didn't put the snow tires on the scoot??? SNOW!! aarrrggghhhhhhhhhhhhh I hate the thought of it!!
  10. Guy walks into an elevator...a gorgeous blond comes in behind...door closes...she looks at him and says ... TGIF! He says TGIF???? She says..yes.. Thank God It's Friday He says... $H!T !! She says... $H!T???? He says... Sorry Hunny, It's Thursday! Have a great weekend ya'll !
  11. UPDATE Sometimes things just don't turn out the way you "planned" them.... I am the Tekkie geek for my company. We share a server room in our office with IBM who has 2 racks of servers and from that, supplies our VOIP phone systems and email app. When things go wrong, I am the guy on call and have to respond. So, 3:23 this morning I get a call....the air conditioning unit failed and the server room temp is too high. OK, on with my clothes and off I go... 4:05 AM I arrive and the temp is at 43 celcius (109.4 F)...normally its around 21 celcius (69.8F). We call in the A/C repairman and the IBM rep... get all the servers shut down... A/C guy arrives..does his thing and we boot everything up again and test....we're about to leave... that was around 9:30 or so... check the room...A/C shut down and temp rising again... call the A/C guy back (he'd left about an hour earlier)... bring in a portable backup unit...shut all the servers down again... 1PM rolls around and we've got it all back up and running...away I go heading for home...ooops...phone rings... IBM forgot to power up a certain server... back I go to let them in (see, I have to give them access to the offices and the server room...it's a security thing)... 2:05PM and we're outta there and I'm on my way home.... exactly 10 hours from the time I first arrived... I'm tired, extremely cranky... and, what was supposed to be a sunny, warm day has now turned into a cloudy, cool day.... GGGRRRRRRRRRRRR so much for my riding plans today. Think I'll bang back a few R&C's and pass out!
  12. I think it's hard to make an assessment based on a picture. One has to ride it themselves.
  13. Oh sure.... give me all the fun stuff...
  14. I agree with paying cash...if a person can BUT.... The interesting thing about this is, you're still making payments even though you're just paying your savings back, it's still payments. If a person doesn't winn the lottery, how do we accumulate a large reserve of cash?... we make payments whenever we can to our savings or some other "place'. Over time, we build up a bunch of money... let's say $15000 ... how long did it take? 3 years...4 years...or more? So, in all that time, you didn't have whatever it is that you were saving it for...in this case, a new scoot. Meantime, I got some bank to "loan" me the money and during those 3 or 4 years that you were socking your money away into your savings, I was out enjoying myself on my new scoot. No matter how you look at it, you're still going to be making payments to somewhere. The only 2 "real" differences are: a) one method you make a little interest versus paying a little interest and b) one method you can enjoy the purchase NOW versus waiting 3 or 4 years. Is the extra interest paid worth the enjoyment NOW... you bet it is because, heaven forbid, half way through those 3 or 4 years of saving, I could DIE. I live for today...not tomorrow and I want to enjoy as many toys as my income TODAY will allow me. Furthermore, that loan I took out... it's LIFE INSURED which means, if I do die, it's paid off and my beneficiary now has my scoot free and clear.
  15. well, I bet that was a real "Venture" LOLOLOL
  16. course, I'm better lookin than you but hey... one of us has to be LOL
  17. geeez... the guy with the blue shirt...for a minute I thought I was looking in the mirror!!! Too weird!! ya, had my wife take a look... wow... from middle of the nose up, man... you're ME buddy!
  18. Good point and what I didn't mention... these programs that "clean Windows"... can cause a lot of damage if not used properly. Still somewhat skeptical tho about somke of them and I figgure the reason is, some of them just go ahead and "do it" without you even knowing what the heck they're doing... in other words, they don't give you any choices. One of my best pieces of advise is..."read the screens" and if in doubt, don't proceed (unless of course, you have a fail-safe backup plan).
  19. ok, here's a link.... http://www.techzonez.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3975 I believe I've used this method at some point in the past and I was surprised how easy it was. Worst case scenario is yes, you may lose what you haven't backed up. Chalk it up to a "lesson learned" and move on .... been there myself a time or 2.
  20. It's possible, if you find a boot CD, to restore the "boot partition" which is probably what's messed up, without loosing everything else. I'll look around for this info on how to d it as I'm certain I have it somewhere.
  21. ha! ... by the time I drove to wherever there is an O'Rileys, my Iridium plugs would cost me about $100 each
  22. In my somewhat limited experience, re-jetting is usually only necessary if you install some kind of performance headers (and I don't believe there is such a thing for our scoots).... simple muffler and air filter changes won't necessitate the rejetting. How to tell?.... run it as is (with the RK's and the K&N's) for a few thousand miles... pull the plugs and see what they look like... if normal, no rejetting req'd... if black and sooty, it's too rich...if white, it's too lean...reject accordingly. Of course, after installing the K&N's, re-sync the carbs & set the idle properly. All should run fine. (IMHO)
  23. Can't help you further with your problem other than what's been already posted. What I can say is... I am VERY SCEPTICAL of these so-called "Windows fixup" programs that seemingly are a dime-a-dozen on the 'net. I took a quick look at that site and immediately got outta there. There is only one Windows "cleaner" that's free off the 'net that I'd recommend and that is CCleaner. Personally, I use a program called Fix-It Utilities that I've been using since Windows 98 and still works on Windows XP and surprisingly, on Vista! I haven't even upgraded to the latest version. The only part of it I use is the registry cleaner and it has never failed me and believe me, I've used it on hundreds of systems over the years. Really wish I could offer more help but yu really need a boot CD.
  24. Sorry, just have to comment on the above. It is a great thing if a person has enough money "on hand" to go out and pay cash for such things. Unfortunately, most of us don't. Therefore, it makes sense to borrow the money so we can have and enjoy what you lucky people in a minority group have. This does not mean we cannot afford it, it simply means we don't have that much cash laying around. When we can't afford it is when our monthly debt exceeds our income or, commonly referred to "negative cash flow". To blatantly state that those who borrow "can't afford it" and infer that those who do are "dumb" is just a bit ignorant and suggests an "I'm better than you are" complex IMHO. Do you own your home? If so, did you pay cash for it? I think not. Sorry for venting a bit...I know, it's a dirty job but someone has to do it.
  25. Sunny and warm today, tomorrow, and a few clouds coming in sunday. By warm I mean 15 celcius for the high's....not many of these days left this year so I will definately be taking advantage of the weather...riding my scoot and waddya know...gas prices have dropped significantly so I'm not gonna worry about "conservative riding" ... I'm gonna crank that sukka to the max! yeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!! c'mon you hardly riders...I'm gonna be lookin fer ACTION! :thumbsup2:
