Greasing the shaft
SilvrT replied to MikeM8560's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Dang... the title of this thread sorta threw me off... LOL Well anywayz... if I'm reading this right, you gotta pull the pumpkin (differential) to grease those splines and that is extra, after the wheel is off. If you're talkin about the splines inside the wheel hub, that can be done when the wheel is off and nothing extra needs to be dismantled but you should check the (I call them "dampers") while in there. Frankly speaking, when you have the wheel off, you should go the extra distance and pull the pumpkin and check/grease the driveshaft splines, both front and rear. It's not a major job. (just my $0.02 cents) -

I see a lot of reference to "billet" chrome items. The only definition of this I can find is that the part in question has been machined from a metal ingot (aka a billet) rather than cast in a mold. Is this the right definition for those "billet chrome gizmos"? -
Further to Rod's post, I've always heard that you should never connect the negative cable direct to the battery. Connect it to a part of the chassis or the engine. Reason is, if you get a spark (for whatever reason), it could blow up the battery. Additionally, never connect the cables when the vehicle is running. I've also heard that there is a possible danger of blowing up the on-board computer of the "donor" vehicle.

Interesting... on page 20 & 21 it says when adjusting the air pressure in the shocks, there should be no weight on the wheels ... yet in the owners manual, it doesn't suggest that at all. (or am I reading this incorrectly?) -
From it I got answers to two questions, one of which seemed to be befuddling others. The location/position of the Cylinder Head Cover Plate (that was in the way of accessing the seat nut) ... According to this manual, it appears to be on the right rear cylinder and the lip is facing upwards at the rear, thus getting in the way of accessing the seat nut. The PO gave me this little bag with a very small allen wrench and screw...he said he had no idea what it was for. This manual explained that. Both above answers are on page 8 of the manual. EDIT... here I go, getting my left and right mixed up .... I meant to say LEFT above...am I right?
