Sears Motorcycle/ATV Jack
SilvrT replied to dlhoulton's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
heh... makes me think of a jack I was looking at in Princess Auto... it was a display unit...there was oil all around the base of the hydraulics... lol ..sure makes for a godd "selling job"! haha Wonder why nobody makes a good screw jack for the bikes. My jack that comes with my truck is one of the best screw jacks I've seen...so easy to use and has no problem lifting the whole front end of the truck off the ground. hmmmm...wonder if I can modify it for the scoot?????- 26 replies

Sears Motorcycle/ATV Jack

Aside from the fact that it's black and chrome, it's much the same as the "red" one at Sears and our Canadian Tire sells the identical thing. Canadian Tire price is $119 CDN and generally goes on sale in the spring for around $79 bucks. I'm waiting for that!- 26 replies

I realize this ain't bike related but I know some of you work in the corporate IT field and am hoping to get some guidance / feedback. As many of you know, I am the "network admin" at my company. We are running an out-dated version of Symantec Antivirus. It's a corporate version centrally managed on a server. While the software is out of date, I can still get updated virus definitions but I'm feeling a bit "insecure" about it. I'm wondering what ya'll are using in your corporate environment ... pro's/con's ... any info you can give me. I prefer not to again use Symantec or McAfee.

Sears Motorcycle/ATV Jack
SilvrT replied to dlhoulton's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks Dennis... but I believe that's a US site... the Canadian site doesn't show them (at least I haven't found them). Pls correct me if I'm wrong but if I'm right, those prices being in US currency just don't compete with other outlets such as Canadian Tire up here for essentially the same product. We're at close to 20 cents on the dollar exchange rate so, $120 jack would cost me $144 (plus or minus) and shipping.- 26 replies

I'd like to know where in Sears you find these jacks... I've searched their on-line site...no matches found. Got a product number or something?- 26 replies

I seem to be the bearer of not so good news lately!
SilvrT replied to sarges46's topic in Watering Hole
Sorry to hear this about Pete. It kindof "brings home" that we shouldn't pass up an opportunity to meet up with those whom we've come to know on this site when that opportunity presents itself. I had that opportunity 2 yrs ago..to meet Pete...but it was just a "little" out of my way en route to Biggar, SK. I regret not taking the time. Glad to hear though that Pete is still with us and I may get that opportunity again. Pete... wishing you all the best and a speedy recovery. -Rick -
OH gawd... here comes the 1st gen / 2nd gen bashing again... hahahaha cabin fever syndrome or PMS is rampant.... c'mon warm weather... we need some healing!!

I forgot to mention that cooking is one of my hobbies...in fact, it's a form of "therapy". When I get home from work, nothing (except riding the scoot) relaxes me more than banging back a few rum & cokes and cooking up a great meal... oh yeah... there's the eating part too! heh heh
-
interesting how a simple question about price on a 2nd gen turns into a battle (friendly of course) between 1st & 2nd gens LOL N-E-Wayz ... I got my 06 Midnight last Nov for $12,900 and that's here in Canuck-Land and it only had 1300 Kilometers on it.

maybe that's APR (Above Prime Rate) ??

dang man...you musta really been flyin on that Honda...no wonder it wasn't a comfortable ride.

I hate Rap, it ain't real music it's crap, I hate Rap
SilvrT replied to Midrsv's topic in Watering Hole
I don't mind some of the rap "music" at all... what pi$$es me off is the kids who sink ton's of money into high-powered sound systems in their cars...the kind that cause the whole car to vibrate...and then drive down the street with it cranked to the max and all the windows down. 'nuther one... anyone who rides public transit with an mp3 player or whatever wearing crappy ear plugs that everyone can hear their music. IMHO, these kids are a) inconsiderate and b) have no idea what they are doing to their hearing....they'll all be deaf long before the grave. -
My specialty is automation and I use VBA for that. As for formulas, again, I custom design a lot of that with VBA. I tend to stay away from Excel for "data tracking / storage / reporting" and use Access or MySQL and/or Visual Basic for that...Excel is used where further analysis / what-if's or speed of number crunching is necessary...but, clients will be clients and if their thing is Excel, then that's what I do. Having said that, I've designed and enhanced so many different Excel spreadsheet applications it boggles my mind when I go back and look at them...I think to myself "I did THAT!" LOL N-E-Wayz, we're (or should I say I am) hijacking this thread .... so, if at anytime you got a Q / problem needing some solution, gimme a holler...be glad to assist. As for me, I only work for one company now and so far, haven't come up against a brick wall.

hey Curt... I'd love to challenge ya on that one ... I been programming, teaching, and developing custom apps in Excel since it came out and before that, I wrote a lot of macro scripts in Lotus 123, not to mention converting 123 spreadsheets and macros to Excel. Been doing this as a part of my computer consulting business for over 20 yrs. I always love a good challenge and learning new stuff is what keeps me going...perhaps I could pick up a few new ideas from you or vice versa. OK.. did I say one of my hobbies was programming? Actually, I don't do it as a hobby anymore...haven't since I found out I could get paid for it LOL

For some reason, I've grown out of many of my hobbies. About the only thing I still partake in is shooting pool but even that I don't spend a lot of time at anymore. Once the warm weather comes around, I spend most of my spare time riding. Hobbies I was involved in a lot are... Repairing and painting vehicles (still tinkering with this one) Various building projects...mostly interior renovations Cabinetry work Camping, fishing, hunting Model cars Computers (started as a hobby...became a 20+ yr career)

I'm ready to buy a trunk rack for my '06. Found the following and was wondering if that's a good place to get it & is the price good? http://www.stadiumyamaha.com/pages/catalogs/detail/26/198/398/20151/3/0/0/1/4/90/69/338/trunk-rack.aspx I recall a place being mentioned in some other post that is in the Seattle area that was apparently one of "the best" places to get such things but can't recall the name... anyone able to point me to it?

Yes and If you've never done this before, don't be intimidated ... it's very easy. The only "tricky" part is the chrome piece at the bottom of the windshield. When you put the fairing cover back on, make sure the edges are a snug fit before putting the screws back in. The first time I did mine, I must have had something mis-aligned or maybe a wire had gotten in the way coz one edge of the fairing didn't seem to want to fit right...I pulled it back off and re-positioned it and made sure it was fitting properly before putting the scews in. All-in-all, I've had my fairing split 3 times already since I got the scoot last Nov LOL ... it really is quite easy ... heck, it's so easy, I think I'll go do it again just for fun!

I remember when I bought my '83 Aspencade back in '86. I looked at a few bikes, one of which was a 2-tone blue Venture. I think it was an '84...it had no stereo and gawd it seemed big and heavy...sorta awkward in comparison to the Aspencade but it was intrigueing... I bought the Aspencade even though it wasn't in as good condition and had a lot of miles. Never rode the Venture. Then about a year or 2 later, I spotted a brand new Venture at a Dealer...she was 2-tone red/burgundy I think...gawd it was gorgeous and they let me try it out... I loved it!..and I wanted to buy it soooo much...but I couldn't afford a new bike at that time. That was my first "introduction" to the Venture. It wasn't until about 1996 or 7 before I actually bought one and that was my '85.

I'm not sure about Keith but here in BC, it's Government run insurance ... no competition ...unionized...they charge whatever they please more or less.

Our rates are about the same here in BC; however, I discovered something about the difference between Specified Perils (basically fire & theft) and Comprehensive (basically anything other than collision or liability). If your vehicle is stolen (or for that matter, catches on fire)... if you have Specified Perils then it has to be a full write-off to have any coverage whereas if you have Comprehensive, any damage suffered is covered. I found this out when I went to insure my scoot for the winter and was discussing the differences with the Ins agent soas to see what the pricing difference was.

I just bought an '06 RSMV last Nov ... haven't had much riding time yet due to the cold and snow but from what riding I did do, I am sure looking forward to nice weather and long days in the saddle. Mine has a bit of a whine but I'm not finding it to be much of a bother. I've added the Road King mufflers just last week...don't even know what they sound like on a ride yet LOL but they sure sound good sitting still. I've been riding Ventures (an '85 & '87) for quite a few years...they are amazing bikes and the engines sure can take a beating so you can't lose with a proven design. Buy one... you won't be sorry.

This is almost the middle of February ... we've had snow on the ground since the middle of Dec. .. this is Vancouver folks... snow NEVER stays on the ground longer than a week usually. Global warming they say???... yep... I've seen warmer temps in the YUKON & ALASKA than we've had here so what that tells me is it's warming up in the far north and pushing all the cold down south. At least the snow is slowly disappearing and my street doesn't look like this pic anymore.
