Them HD "stealers" around here aren't so generous I've found. -

All that is needed is a bracket and clamps. Clamps are commercially available and I think the brackets are too although I made mine. So, what "mods" are there? None. Somewhere in here is a link to different muffler sounds ... I have it at home but won't be there until later so will post it then if nobody else has. -
I noticed a clicking sound yesterday. My scoot only has 7500 Kilometers on it. Found this thread (and a couple others)... jacked her up and pulled the wheel... sure enuf .... there wasn't enuf grease there to ... (you fill in the blank!) Cleaned everything up and greased properly....no more clicking!

This is WAY COOL to find out what ya'll do and that there's so many with such a vast assortment of specialties and knowledge! Compared to some of you, I feel like such a "little guy" in this IT world but hey .... we all play a role and we're all "geeks" to some degree ... until I got into computing I worked at tons of different jobs, never really being totally satisfied. Once I started with computers, I didn't know where I was going, I just went where it took me and I never once got bored or disinterested, nor have I ever looked back. I've never had trouble finding work and when I was self-employed, there were a couple or three years when I made a 6 figure income (but I had no life at that time either LOL). What I have found over the years is that IT folks in the USA get paid a whole lot more than us Canucks to do the same job. Was a time when I even considered moving but other "stuff" got in the way. Regardless, I'm happy here and that's all that matters! Great write-ups guys and gals!

oh yeah? does it fall of completely or just partially? (my hair fell off completely...what are you talking about?)

cool...so for me, the question still remains...is there any advantage to going from Amsoil (non diesel) to Rotella Synthetic Diesel and what, if any, difference might there be? As for 10/40 or 20/50 and associated temps, we do get pretty warm in and around these parts in the summer .... some areas we travel are over 80 quite regularly (now don't you sutherners wet yerselves laffin!!!) :rotf:and even get up to the 90's a few times. Funny...maybe it's cuz of my age going up and memory going down but I can't recall exactly what I ran in prev bikes (10/40 or 20/50) duh!
-
Are you saying that Rotella Diesel oil is synthetic? If so, then from what you say, there shouldn't be any problem going from Amsoil synthetic to Rotella Diesel (if it is, in fact, synthetic) ??
-
at least 2 of you posted that you use 20/50 weight oil ... have you ever used 10/40 and if so, what differences have you noticed? Why do you use 20/50 as opposed to 10/40? Anyone?

Ecks recent post about a virus got me to wondering how many of us, including myself are IT "dudes" or "dudettes" and what's everyone's background / specialty / length of time? For myself, I am mostly self-taught. I started toying with computers around 1984 and by 1986, I sold my 3rd computer for a bigger, more powerful one with 2...yes two 3.5 inch floppy drives (no hard drive yet)! I made a deal with the purchaser that I would teach him how to use it and since he owned a hair salon, I developed a program for him to track his clients, etc. He paid me with haircuts for 2 years (yes, I did have hair at one time:D). I was out of work at the time and he suggested I put an ad in the paper to teach people how to use computers...so I did...and that's when it all started. I then got into contracting to computer training companies. At the same time, I was advancing my knowledge of database development and picking up a few clients here and there. Demand from them got me into networking and eventually becoming a full solutions provider including hardware. As time passed and word got around, I kept getting more customers and their demands forced me to continuously learn new technologies and methods to provide their solutions. I never did get any official schooling or designations or certifications...never had the time but over the years I've taught many folks who have them (surprisingly to me, I knew a whole lot more than they did about stuff). After working for myself for 20 yrs, I finally got tired of the "brain drain" the technology explosion was causing and got a "real job" working as the only technical resource for a small, in-bound call centre with a long-term, solid government contract. There was still a lot of learning to do when I came aboard but at least it was very specific. In a nutshell then, my specialties are database development, desktop support, software instructing & courseware development, and small biz networks incl forests/domains, managed routers & firewalls, etc. (no, I'm not writing my resume here .. :rotf:nor am I looking for a job )

CB/Radio/Cassette not working
SilvrT replied to BJB's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Barry.... did you disconnect all the associated wiring and put some dielectric grease on them? According to other posts I've read, this helps. I haven't done mine yet but next time I have it apart, I plan to. Having said that tho, when I was monkeying with the cassette removal, etc, I've disconnected everything at least a couple times .... no problems so far (touch wood) -
Not meaning to hijack yer thread but I'm wondering what the implications might be going to the Rotella deisel oil after running amsoil synthetic for 1 oil change?? keep in mind that there's only been 2 oil changes on my scoot since new and because I bought it after the first change, I have no idea what the PO put in it before I got it. It was changed at 1000 km (600+ miles) and then I changed it to Amsoil Synthetic at 1300 km .... it's now got almost 7400km on it and due for a change (geeez...can't believe I've put over 6000 km since last Nov)

Mounting Luggage Rack?
SilvrT replied to craigatcsi's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Follow the directions CAREFULLY is my advice. I did my install about a month ago. It's a wee bit "tricky". Couple of points... 1) measure 3 times, drill hole once 2) keep in mind that the holes are at a bit of an angle. I found that after I drilled the holes, I had to file them open a bit to finally get the bolts in because of that angle. Do the forward holes first and make sure that fits including installing the bolts, etc before marking / drilling the rearward holes. Afterwards, find something to cover the exposed bolt heads inside the trunk otherwise, if you put a helmet or such in and close the lid, you might find some unwanted scrapes on it. The rack should be about an inch or so away from the backrest. Oh, and one last thing... be VERY CAREFUL as you position / re-position, mount / remove / remount the rack otherwise you WILL scratch your trunk!!! (no, I didn't but it was danged close!) hope this helps. -
:rotf: :rotf: :rotf: now THAT is a GOOD ONE!! (talk about a mental image or what!)
-
IMHO, there is no such thing as a new scoot with a reduced warranty so that it can be sold cheaper. They're either B/Sing as a stalling tactic or they're plain clueless, they need to be educated the hard way.

no biggie Curt... this is how we learn stuff and I'm a glutton for knowledge! and... I do run a 10 gauge wire from battery to fuse block Thanks for all your input and thanks to all the others. It's all good stuff!
-
Awrite...those of you "in the know" ... will that fuse block handle a 30 amp fuse/load?? (oil be durned ifn I know)
-
See post #10 in this thread... that's the fuse block I have...you're telling me it's only good for 10 amp fuses .... yet what's that fuse in it? (looks like a 40 to me) ?? And post #13 is showing 2 - 15 amp fuses ...?? http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=29737&highlight=fuse+block

COOL ! I think I'm "up" to this ... I enjoy wiring stuff and the answers provided here pretty much concur with my own thoughts ... just needed to hear it from others. here's a pic I did for how I figgure the Kuryakyn box to be wired... Curt, does this appear similar to what you did?

Is my 2007 Midnight Venture still a Midnight ?
SilvrT replied to Hummingbird's topic in Watering Hole
Do you still have the various emblems on it? If so, then according to them, it is still a MIDNIGHT Venture .... but nobody would believe it! They'd think you robbed the emblems offa one! -

There are no stupid questions... only stupid answers and I am the ONLY ONE QUALIFIED to answer! The answer is YES, as long as nothing comes in contact with those areas....
