Last Friday I changed out my Amsoil synthetic 10w40 oil and put in Amsoil synthetic 20w50. Thought maybe it would quieten the engine and the clutch whine. Around here, that oil costs $19.95/litre and it takes almost 4 litres with a new filter so, all tolled with taxes it came to $101 and change. To my dismay, the engine actually seemed noisier and the whine louder. I also noticed the temps on the gauge getting up to between 220 & 230. Yesterday morning I decided to go get some Shell Rotella T (non synthetic). I got the 15w40. I'm happy to report that even though I virtually wasted $100 on the Amsoil, the engine is quieter, the clutch whine is quieter, and the temps are sticking close to 210-215 on the gauge after a couple days running around the city in 30 degree celcius weather.. I drained the Amsoil back into the containers and kept it for some other future use. Think I'll be sticking with the Rotella T.

Would you please either type them out or post a link to these "rules". Folks who don't know them might be well served to have them "in front of them" and read them a few times. Speaking for myself, I don't ride in groups a lot so a good refresher of these rules would be handy. I led our M&E ride last Saturday and seeing this post makes me think "I should have done that".

Today was quite warm (around 28 celcius) and we were on the "Ride for Dad" run. The first leg of the route took us thru downtown Vancouver, across the Lions Gate bridge and into West Van. There were over 2000 bikes! ... I barely got the bike out of 1st gear during that time and my temp gauge was pushing 230. I wasn't concerned coz it would get up there and then drop back down a bit so I knew the fan, etc was doing it's job. Besides, there's got to be some room for error on a gauge set that costs $39.95 for the whole set. Generally tho, it sits right at 210 on a warm day at highway cruising.

Well, two full days of riding and 20w50 oil makes no difference in the chirp/whine as far as I can see.

Just an FYI ... you can do a clean, fresh install of Windows and add nothing and those "cleaners" will find "errors". A lot of it isn't errors per se` but just registry entries that are "pre-set" for future installations of applications, etc but at the time, they don't exist so therefore, they are redundant and show up as "errors". Cleaning them out won't hurt a thing.

I know mine has it too ... funny thing tho, I've found when I'm wearing my skull cap the chirp/whine isn't quite as annoying ... except when I'm driving within the city and am constantly going thru the gears... out on the hwy at around 100 km/h and up...don't really notice it that much. this is something that I learned to live with when I had my '85 coz it had a similar whine. I guess that makes it easier for me to get used to it ... but it does get annoying sometimes. It is weird tho...it does change pitch under different conditions. I can be going along within the city...up and down thru the gears and the chirp/whine is very clear and annoying. Stop somewhere for coffee or whatever...get back on the scoot, fire it up and crank away and...sheesh...where'd that whine go? My plan is to ride it this way thru this summer...then take it in for the I-basket change (if it's still bothersome). I just tonight changed the oil to 20w50 so it will be interesting to see what effect (if any) that has tomorrow.

heh... I've been at this location/job for 3 years and she's been there for 7 .... it's only been within the last year that we even started speaking to each other and that was business related. I've always found her to be "unapproachable" when ya don't "know" her. oh well.. to each their own ... aside from the "Wing" attitude, she seems like a nice person.

Actually, I am retiring as of May 31st. I will be collecting my Canada Pension benefits effective June. But.. who can live on that? ... so I am going back to work July 1st (same place). In reality, it's a technicality in order to qualify for CPP, a person has to STOP working and have no income for at least One month, that being the month they begin receiving CPP benefits. So, that's what I'm doing. And that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

A bit cornfuzink to me (but I'm from CanNuhDuh...eh) ... j/k One thing I notice tho ... the choice for UN-insured and UNder-insured motorist. Now, wouldn't a person who is UN-insured also be UNDER-insured?

I know some of you ride Wings but I think you "came" from a Venture so I know you aren't like this but it seems lately the Wing riders I come across seem to have a bit of a "chip on their shoulder". For instance, one of the security guards in the building where I work (a very nice lady but...) rides on her hubby's wing with him and have been riding a wing for many years ... anyway, she sure seems to get "snobbish" whenever I start talking motorcycles with her. "Oh, we tried a Yamaha once...it was terrible!" .. "We never ride in groups!" (yet she showed me pics of a few folks they ride with a lot) ... "oh no...we won't do the Ride for Dad charity run... we already gave to charity and there's too many Harley riders there" ... and so on, and so on... Maybe I'm reading it wrong but her tone, body language, and words are sure giving me those "snobby" vibes (btw, she's older 'n me and is about to celebrate her 45th wedding anniv ... good for them!) On top of that, she can't tell the difference between the 1500 style of Wing and the 1800 style. Showed me a pic of their "old" bike that they traded for a "new" one (pic of that too) and according to her, they traded an 1800 for a 1500 but you couldn't tell her that. (she was adamant that the old one is the new one...geeesh now I'm confused LOL) Well, I'm bored, tired, too warm, and anxious to see the work day end coz starting June 1st, I am off work for an entire month! yyeeeeeaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh .... (maybe all the above is just my "chit")

COOL! ... but not the V-twin clamps for that price?? Dang, if HD dealers "down south" are willing to sell off these RK mufflers at that price, maybe one or more of you guys should go out and buy a bunch and sell 'em off for a wee profit eh? Heck, I paid 50 bucks for a used set and $25 to get them shipped to me ... I'da least paid that much for a new set so that would have been a $40 profit for ya.

could you or someone please explain this and maybe provide pics?

Chrome gas tank would look good with those chrome side covers! heck... might as well chrome the fenders too...

One sure-fire cure to cleaning whitewalls... you'll NEVER have to clean them again.... Don't put 'em on!

I currently use Amsoil synthetic 10w40. Got my '06 last Nov with only 1300 kilometers on it (that's 808 miles) and it had just had it's first service ... I drained that and put in the Amsoil with a new filter. Seems to work just fine and it's now due for another change so I think I'l put in the same only 20w50 this time (coz the temps are movin up).

I tried 1 bottle ... didn't work ... then I tried 2 bottles... still didn't work ... then 3 .. 4 ... then I lost count and didn't give a Sh$t anymore... :rotf:

I'm not dragerman but since you posted this in the open forums, I figgure anyone (including me LOL) can respond. For years and years ... ever since it first came out ... I've always used Fantastic for cleaning whitewalls. Many years ago I managed car rental operation so was involved in cleaning cars and trucks a lot ... and let me tell you, those things get real dirty...some peaple are major PIGS and just run the crap out of rental vehicles. Fantastic was literally my saviour when it came to cleaning anything rubber, vinyl, plastic, etc and I've cleaned whitewalls that were so dirty you couldn't hardly tell them apart from the rest of the tire .... Fantastic brought them back to near perfect.

I also wear fingerless gloves and my fingers get black too but it's not from the grips, it's from the brake and clutch levers...the aluminum. Thought about polishing them up and then applying a couple coats of clear.

What mufflers are you running
SilvrT replied to Deacon's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I don't know but I do live by the rule of "anything is possible". If nobody has done it, that doesn't mean it can't be done. If it's never been done before, that doesn't mean it shouldn't be done. Surely somebody has done this...but if not... you be the first and tell us all about how! -

You'll also want to find a set of V-Twin #31-9920 chrome clamp to mount HD mufflers .... retail should run you around $35 for a pair. (that's what I paid here in Vancouver)
