You and I are not in sync LOL ... I am going here... http://www.signaldynamics.com/products.htm is that not correct? att'd is the screen(s) I see ... and I don't see anything like you mention. I went to both the 3" and the 6" light bars sections. -

are you sure the part nbr isn't 02041? I couldn't find 02241 -
nahhhhhhhhhh ... you can't improve on perfection! :rasberry: ummm weren't we talking about bikes? somehow this has taken a side-turn
-
hahaha ... I can think of at least one other way I'd prefer to "get lucky"
-
All would be a lot "weller" if I didn't have to work and could be out ridin LOL Just a dumb thought I had but, I'm curious if a used basket out of a wrecked scoot might work? I wonder if the basket is the same from a 1st gen? In any event, I'm takin her back and getting the original basket put back in ... dealer is only gonna charge me $50. any more than that and I'd do it myself but for that price, it's worth saving me the hassle. Dealer name is GA Checkpoint Yamaha ... they seem to be real good folks ... the service mgr has been there 29 years ... real nice guy to deal with.

Good input... now how do you fix it?

Went out for about 15 min after the oil change... did not notice any difference. I was running Rotella T dino oil 15w40.

Very cool idea... I've been racking my brain for just such a solution. THANKS! -
I'm envious ... firstly about the fishin trip and secondly, that you could at least see the bridge (it was covered in fog when Nina & I went across it last year) LOL. And hey! .... I see you were even powered by YAMAHA!

Well, about all I have in the left saddle is a few "emergency" tools. Not a lot of weight there. As for the "bent frame", I am hard pressed to believe that this scoot has been in an accident or has come from factory with such a flaw. Having said that tho, I suppose there is a remote chance (even with only 1300 kms when I bought it) that the PO did smack it up and it was repaired but I've done some pretty close inspecting of this bike, had the fairing off several times, gas tank off, side bags off, rear wheel off, seats off .... absolutely no sign of any damage or repairs of any kind. Other than a bit of dust, it looks very "factory" to me. Let me clarify; however, just in case some are hearing more than what I'm saying ... the pull to the left is VERY SLIGHT ... but it is there and it is noticeable. Come to think of it tho (and I just now remembered this) .... neither my '85 or my '87 would track straight when I took my hands off the bars but I never felt any need to compensate while driving them. This may just be one of those "natures of the beast" things that a person has to get used to. It appears I'm not the only one who is experiencing it.
-
heh ... you don't look all that old to me ... heck, I'm 62 and after 3 wives tryin, I'm still not house broken LOL (altho Nina is making progress)
-
Regarding the wandering ... check your air pressure in the tires and bump them up a couple pounds and see what that does. It helped mine. heh ... yup, keeping these "black beauties" clean is a never ending chore. I hate a dirty bike and black has to be the worst color for easilly looking dirty IMHO. I am dusting/polishing/cleaning this sukkah constantly! I agree with the "monkey butt" .... after a long ride, my tailbone tends to get a wee bit sore, after the numbness disappears LOL. I think I'm going to do some seat modifications PDQ!

WOW! ... lots of input... thanks guys and it's good to know I'm not just imagining it. Regarding the "road crown" scenario ... as I mentioned originally, this extra "pressure" I feel in my hands is there all the time regardless of the road or where I am on the road, including when I make right-hand turns at any speed above, let's say, 20-30km/h. So, I highly doubt it's a "road crown" thing. Regarding all the other possible fixes, This bike was virtually new when I got it (had 1300 km on it) last Nov. Everything is completely stock (tires, etc) and it's still under warranty so, I'm certainly not going to be the one to invest ton's of time and effort checking all those possible "fixes", albeit they are good suggestions. I think Yamaha should be doing all that under a warranty claim. However, and thanks RossKean for your "hijack":D, it appears Yamaha has no solution to this "not so uncommon issue". Along with the clutch whine (no solution) this appears to be yet another "flaw" that there is no solution provided by Yamaha. Guess I'll just have to learn to live with it. I'm wondering if anyone who has had this problem noticed a change when you got rid of the stock tires and put something else on. Speaking of tires, I now have 13,400 km's on the scoot and the front tire is cupping. When I had it in for the clutch basket swap, the mechanic noticed that and questioned about air pressure. I told him I am running the tires at mfg spec (36 front) so he told me to add 2 lbs. I did that to both front and rear and I immediately noticed that the bike did not try to go with the various cracks and grooves and parallel high/low spots in the road surface as badly anymore. In fact, it hardly does it at all now ... but the pull to the left is still there. Oh, just to mention it, I don't run any air in the front shocks. I did try running it with 5lbs each side (and I do have the hand pump which I got from the Harley shop) but I didn't notice any difference as it pertains to this issue. Don't get me wrong tho when I speak of "flaws" ... I love the bike, I think it's awesome and I enjoy riding it.

Pretty much since day one that I got this scoot, I've noticed that it seems to want to steer to the left. If I take my hands off the grips on a flat, straightaway (and I've done this on several of them and at different positions in the lane), the bike will sart going to the left and I have to body lean (no hands remember) to the right to keep it straight. I also notice I'm constantly pulling a bit with my left hand and pushing a bit with my right (counter steering) as I feel the pressure on my hands to keep the bike on a straight line. similarly, when I take a right hand corner, it takes more counter steer pressure than it does on a left hand corner. I raised this with the dealer and they road tested it...said it was hardly noticeable and offered no explanation or cure other than to suggest my handle bars were a bit "twisted" (yeahsureright). Said because they are rubber mounted, they can get that way a bit. I chalk that up to the "pull/push" added pressure I am constantly applying to keep it going straight. Any ideas about this guys?

I'm gonna recant on my original statement (I'll accept it as-is and just ride) ... we put on another 300+ km's yesterday and the route required a lot of slow riding in 2nd & 3rd gear following slow moving vehicles up mountain highways. The whine was almost unbearable at times so, I'm either taking it back to the dealer and get them to put the old basket back in (coz it sure didn't seem to be that bad) or I'll do it myself if they'll let me and the cost for them to do it is too much. Time to punch those baffles out of the RK's I guess. BTW, ran into a couple riding a new Kaw Voyager. They'd just got it and absolutely love it. It's quiet yet has a nice throaty sound (heard them go by while we were stopped beside the hwy), the guy says it's a great handling bike, much better than the 4 Nomads he's owned, has lot's of power and torque but has a bit more vibration at lower rpm's than his older Nomads and they both feel it's very comfortable.

Got some Mobile1 MX 4T 10w40 after work today at Crappy Tire (Canadian Tire) and changed out the oil & filter. It was due anyway.
-
From a lot of the things I've read and seen, I figgure you guys in the US have a much bigger Walmart that offers a lot more than what we do up here in CanNuhDuh .. eh I'm gonna check our local Walmart this week for that oil.

WalMart has the "Racing 4T" Mobil 1 oil??? hmmmmmmmmm EDIT: yep, I found it on their website! They refer to it as "Mobil 1 MX4T 10W-40 "
-
I also found this on their site... so there is a difference between "racing oil" and "4T Racing" ______________________________________ Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 is recommended for four-cycle motorcycles which specify the use of a 10W-40 engine oil. It provides excellent performance in motorcycle engines that are designed with a common engine/transmission lubrication system or where the engine lubrication system is separate from the transmission system. In the case of the latter, follow the manufacturer's recommendation for the type of fluid to be used in the transmission. Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 engine oil is also designed to provide the proper frictional characteristics necessary for wet-clutch engine/transmission systems. Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 exceeds the requirements of API Service Categories SH, SG/CF, CD, JASO MA and has been fully tested, both on laboratory dynamometers and in the field, to provide optimum horsepower and acceleration. Fully synthetic Mobil 1 motorcycle oils are specifically engineered for use in motorcycles. The formulations are based on the proven technology used in other Mobil 1 automotive products, yet they are optimized for the unique requirements of a motorcycle engine and/or transmission. You can use them with confidence, knowing they will protect your bike in extreme situations where conventional motor oils simply cannot compare, including extended high-speed operation and prolonged idling in summertime traffic. Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 was previously known as Mobil 1 MX4T 10W-40.

can you be more specific on this oil ? is it called "4T Racing" or? ... is it synthetic or ? What weight did you use ? I found this on the Mobil website... "Are Mobil 1 Racing oils compatible with a wet clutch engine? These oils are not recommended for wet clutch applications due to their high level of molybdenum."

nope, it ain't the final drive, I'm certain about that... it's that clutch basket ... and I'm certain about that too. Like I said, certain rpm's (about 3000) is when it comes in and it's much more noticeable in 1st thru 3rd at that rpm ... once into 4th (and the speed is up around 80-90 km/h), I hardly notice it and then into 5th (over 90), about all I hear is the wind, the RK's and the tunes. I'm good with that. Oh yeah ... I occasionally hear Nina ...

Successful carb sync
SilvrT replied to Jethroish's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
heh ... maybe it's not the bike that's whinin... maybe it's ME! seriously tho, you've got a valid point ... the Vmax final drive would put the rpm's a bit higher at normal cruisin speed but once I'm into 4th or 5th, I don't notice the whine much ... it's most noticeable in the lower gears and at slower speeds ... I guess I'm "with the sound" then rather than "ahead of it" ...??? -
a very clean looking machine for sure ... congrats! I have to say tho, I've never seen a redder red or a whiter white! WOW that sukkah really stands out!
-
Joe... you'll never know if you don't try! Go ahead and "git 'r done" ... it might be different for you. You can always have the old basket put back in.
