  1. I think the ban should apply to all activities NOT ASSOCIATED with vehicle operation...at the very least, using a cell phone in any way while driving (not limited to texting). This ban should be in place everywhere.
  2. http://blogs.carpoint.ca/2009/08/texting-tow-truck-twit-splashes-down-in-pool.html Typically, a tow truck is called in to cart off the vehicular casualties of an accident. Alas, such was not the case recently when a Lockport, N.Y. area tow truck driver needed to get his rig towed – out of a private swimming pool. Worse, it was the tow truck’s mindless behaviour that caused the accident. Authorities identified the driver of the tow truck as Nicolas Sparks, an employee of Adams Towing. According to reports, the tow truck was traveling down Tonawanda Creek Road when it struck a car at an intersection in Lockport near a residential area. Sparks rear-ended the back of a car, causing the vehicle to swerve out of control. The car slid into a nearby trench prior to crashing through a resident’s backyard fence. Meanwhile, the car and motorcycle that Sparks was towing on the back of his truck flew off, obliterating a residential air conditioning unit and the gas lines of a house. But Sparks wasn’t quite done yet. After damaging the structural integrity of a house and smashing through a backyard fence, the tow truck finally came to a soggy stop after it plunged into a backyard swimming pool. Luckily, nobody was taking a dip at the time. Hey, accidents happen. But in addition to dangerously tailgating the vehicle in front of him, police confirm that just prior to the mishap Sparks had been talking on his cell phone and text-messaging simultaneously. (The phone has been confiscated by police to investigate the call history.) It would all make for a comedy of errors except for the fact that the woman driving the car had to be transported to Erie County Medical Center via trauma helicopter for serious injuries. Her passenger, an eight-year-old girl, was taken to Women and Children’s Hospital for her injuries. The car was a write-off. As for Mr. Sparks – the newest poster boy for distracted driving insanity – he’s been charged with reckless endangerment and tailgating.
  3. forget it... it's back to normal now... I did nothing...I swear! Weird these computer gizmos!
  4. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, all the posts (the ones with multiple lines of text) no longer fit within the width of the screen and I have a horizontal scroll bar at the bottom and I have to scroll right to see all the text. ... ???? It wasn't like this, this morning or ever before. Yes, I am a computer tech but when such things happen "out of the blue", I have no immediate answer. Nothing on my system has changed (that I know of). Any ideas out there?
  5. hmmmmmm.... can't say as I heard that b'fore ... as previously said... "ya learn sumpin new every day" .... I'm gonna give that a try!

  9. Ammonia will etch plastic ... here is a "blurb" from the Windex site ... at one time their site actually stated "should not use on plastic surfaces" _______________________________ What ingredients are in Windex® Glass and Multi-Surface Cleaners? All but two Windex® Glass and Multi-Surface Cleaners contain detergents, solvents, fragrance, Ammonia-D®, and alcohol. They should not be used if ammonia is not recommended for use on surface. (Windex® Multi-Surface Vinegar and Windex® Outdoor Multi-Surface do not contain ammonia. They are safe to use in these cases.) _____________________________________________ However, in this day and age, it's possible that not all "plastics" can be harmed by a product containing ammonia. (I had to put this disclaimer in for self-protection LOL) Possibly a ClearView shield, for example, is OK ???
  10. Just don't use the Windex on the windshield (unless it's ammonia free Windex)

From Wikipedia... A possum (plural form: possums) is any of about 69 small to medium-sized [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arboreal]arboreal[/ame] [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marsupial]marsupial[/ame] [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Species]species[/ame] native to [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia]Australia[/ame], [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Guinea]New Guinea[/ame], and [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sulawesi]Sulawesi[/ame] (and introduced to [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Zealand]New Zealand[/ame] and [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/China]China[/ame]). The name derives from their resemblance to the [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opossum]opossums[/ame] of [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Americas]the Americas[/ame]. (The name is from [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algonquian]Algonquian[/ame] wapathemwa, not [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_language]Greek[/ame] or [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latin]Latin[/ame], so the plural is possums, not possa.) Possum is also used in North America as a short form of [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opossum]Opossum[/ame]. A possum's diet is mainly plant-based i.e. leaves, fresh gum tips and flowers, however they also occasionally eat insects, eggs and meat. An open compost bin in a backyard becomes an enticing smorgasbord for a hungry urban possum.
  12. Don (Freebird), if you feel this to be a political post and has no place here, please feel free to delete it and I apologize for using this forum for it. Having said that, I invite all my fellow British Columbia Venturerider members (and anyone else for that matter) to join me (and many others) in protest of our government's plan to bring in the HST (Harmonized Sales Tax). Following are some links on this subject including an on-line petition. It doesn't matter IMHO who you voted for, this particular petition is being put forth by the offical opposition party. I have never before spoken out or up or have been so "active" in any protest be it political or otherwise in my life but this continual tax grabbing by governments, etc has got to stop somewhere. http://www.bcndpcaucus.ca/en/node/2748 http://www.bcndpcaucus.ca/en/

Couple years ago I was riding in the dead of night, super dark out (no moonlight), bright on-coming headlights of a transport blinding my vision and just seconds before we met, my headlight (and his) illuminated a dead deer in the middle of my lane (2 lane hwy) ... well, before I even realized what happened or even thought about my actions, I'd swerved around it and was past both the deer and the semi... THAT was about as close to running over anything I ever want to come! From that point on I was just a wee bit "edgy" to say the least.
  14. heh, it's probably a good thing there's no audio ... I have such a crappy "monotone" voice that oftentimes my spoken words are taken out of context and that isn't even mentioning my expressionless face and lack of body language LMAO!! ... and then there's my total lack of tact and diplomacy!
  15. Pictures are worth a thousand words and are generally not a true indication of the actual object. In reality I would not even attempt a guess by looking at a picture. Having said that, I could "venture" a guess of 101k but one might think I cheated LOL Seriously tho, from the pics, I'd guess about 1/2 of that. (did I just contradict myself? LOL)
  16. I'm sorry and, meaning no disrespect --- I am in disagreement. I have been riding for over 40 years (not that it means anything) and a bike with 130k on it, meticulously maintained can look just as good as a bike with 30k and in fact, imroperly maintained, ridden, and stored, etc, 30k means nothing IMHO ... further, without having some history of the bike, something with 30k on it could mean more trouble than one with 130k. Personally, I would not buy a bike in excess of 20 yrs old with only 30k on it UNLESS the seller could provide proof of it's maintenance, how it was ridden, length of times it was in storage, what was done while it was in storage and what was done when it was taken out of storage. Case in point, my '87 had 57k KILOMETERS on it when I sold it. It was a very clean bike and it ran very good. Other than a paint job (different color), It would be hard to tell if it was 57k or 157k. In fact, it had 157k. btw, welcome to the site and I hope my comments aren't taken badly as they aren't intended to be ... I just like to express my opinion's strongly sometimes LOL ... and I do hope this '87 you're getting (note, I said "getting") is as good as it appears coz that's a good buy if it is.
  17. I said it before and I'll say it again... it just blows me away to hear about these bikes ('83 - '89) with such low mileage. 30k on a 26 yr old bike? ... that's almost unbelievable! What would concern me about buying anything that old is, is it 30k or 130k ... there's no "real" way of being certain that I'm aware of so, when one is advertised as having 30k, I am always skeptical about that. Having said that, I guess it would apply to any scoot or vehicle that does not show the 6th digit on the odo. Unless a guy has owned the scoot since day one and has documented all the maintenance, showing the mileage readings and dates, how could anyone actually prove it. On the other hand, and in self defence I guess, if it's in premium condition, then who really cares if it's 30k or 130k? It would still have tons of life left.
  18. I put RK's on mine and after a while, I found a carb sync made a world of difference ... re-jet??? HA! they just want to take ya for some cash ... it ain't needed!
  19. Sounds like a good deal to me... I sold my '87 for $3800 Canadian and it had almost 100k miles on it and I thought I was taking a "hit" but to be honest, it went to a good home and I wanted to sell it so both me & the buyer were happy.
  20. Name of Restaurant Bon's Off Broadway Street Address 2451 Nanaimo St City Vancouver State or Province BC Website (Optional) - Quality of Food Good Quality of Service Good Biker Friendly? (Parking, Trusted Location, Etc.) Yes Kind of Food? (Mexican, Chinese, etc.) Western Alcohol Served? Yes Additional Comments Nostalgic, old, good food and a cheap price. All-day brekkie for $2.99. Coffee is extra but the refills are FREE. There is almost allways a lineup to get in which indicates it's popularity. Wait times are often long so be prepared but the breakfast is good ... far better than you might get in your "restaurant chains" for twice or three times the price IMHO. The ambiance of Bon's is quite an "interesting" experience. We go there for brekkie very often. http://bc.hihenry.com/vancouver/bons-off-broadway-2694/

AND... a testament to the outstanding comeraderie of the members of this group. I have been around here for about 3 years ... Learned a lot, got a lot of help, met an awesome group of FRIENDS, and when I could, helped out others. There's just no better than here IMHO.
  23. Thanks a bunch Don and all you guyz for your comments and clearing this all up. It wasn't a "biggie" for me...just curiosity. Ya'll ROCK!
  24. Get a new "garage door opener" .... (geeesh... she'll be whackin me in more places than the back of the head for that suggestion LOL!) ouch! OUCH! ouch!
  25. Nope, never is ... but our govn't is introducing yet another new tax called the HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) .... and, according to them, it's all in the name of providing more money for such things as health care .... yeahsureright ... and I just got off the cabbage truck! HST now means that we will pay 12% tax on EVERYTHING! Eventually the only thing left to tax people on will be .... (hint: it will be called the "Peter Tax") ... and women will be exempt. (thankfully, I won't have to pay a lot)
