  1. In most cases where the things you love about something/someone are far greater than the things you hate, one learns to focus on the former and the latter tends to "go away". I too find that the only thing I dislike about my RSMV is the clutch basket "whine", but I am learning to ignore it, focusing on all it's other great aspects, the enjoyment of the ride, the scenery, etc, etc ... in so doing, I am not noticing that "downside" so much anymore. I experimented with this concept a few times and found that if I focused on the whine...it got worse and worse to the point I just wanted to get off the bike ... then I woud shift my focus to those many other things ... and voila`.... it was as if the whine "went away". (in reality, it didn't) Granted, this won't work for everyone but maybe it's something you could try before you make that decision.
  2. AWESOME job there Sonny ... that's one very unique scoot now ... something I think all of us aspire to (making our scoot unique) :thumbsup2: That "marbelizing" useto be known as "saran wrap mural" and it's something I did a few times back in the day when I had a body/paint shop. One of these days I'll scan some pics of the jobs I did and post them. That was around 1981. Prior to that (around 1972) I had done a "lace" job down the side of a 58 Dodge ... sure set it apart! GREAT JOB!
  3. To expand upon the idea ... one guy has a "spare" basket .... he sends it to "Bob" .. "Bob" tries it ... it either works or it doesn't, regardless, his original whined so he sends his (now a spare) to "Fred" ... "Fred swaps it out and send his on to whoever...maybe back to "Bob" if his is still whining. Not sure how payment for baskets would work but I'm still "imagining" this ... something like the "Ride Like a Pro" DVD swap idea I suppose although I haven't really delved into how that is done.
  4. I'd say the pic alone tells it all .... IT'S TOO SMALL. Imagine an RSV sitting on it (and the size of the RSV) ... now put that scale into perspective.... that would be one monster trailer having 30+ inch wheels!
  5. I've been wondering....since the swap out of the baskets is such a "hit and miss" situation and under warranty it apparently can only be done once ... if there is an opportunity here for those interested to have a "clutch basket swap" whereby we swap clutch baskets back and forth and maybe eventually we'll all wind up with one that works. It's just a thought I had....no idea on the logistics/process of it, but I figgured if I had access to, let's say 10 clutch baskets and the odds were 1 in 5 that I'd get one that didn't whine, then I'd almost be willing to tackle the job on my own. The way I see it, any given clutch basket that whines on one bike might well mate better with the primary gear on a different bike and...problem solved! "Bob" might get it on the first swap wheras "Bill" might have to swap out 4 or 5 before getting a match.
  6. I think he missed a zero or 2
  7. to save a lot of reading, why can't they? venturerider.asia (for example) is a valid and available domain.... (inquiring minds want to know...)
  8. If you do get a medal, then there's 3 that are owed to me!
  9. IMHO, you generally can't go wrong with either a Mazda or a Toyota product; however, certain Mazdas are/were manufactured by Ford (make your own conclusion from that).
  10. Hey BJ ... how about an update on this after you've put a couple thousand Km on it. Hope it's still as good.
  11. No problems accessing them from my location and I tried with 3 different browsers.
  12. A "whois" lookup of venturerider shows the following... DOMAIN AVAILABILITY Registered Domains venturerider.com venturerider.net venturerider.org (above belong to Freebird) Available Domains venturerider.info venturerider.us venturerider.biz venturerider.in venturerider.mobi
  13. From my limited knowledge of domain name registration, all domain names are "centrally managed" meaning that if a particular domain name (ie venturerider.org) has been registered, then no matter where in the world you are, you will not be able to "take" that domain name. Having said that, other similar domain names (such as venturerider.com, .ca, etc) may well not be registered and therefore are available. I doubt very much that any domain registration company would attempt to advise the owner of xyz.org that somebody else is registering xyz.com and that's mainly because you can register an available domain name "on-line". This is the way I understand it...maybe someone else has a more in-depth or different explanation. In any event, the email appears to be some kind of spam attempt at getting money out of you.
  14. We (well, at least I ) will be looking for a full review/report on the new Nomad including pics. Congrats... I agree...they are sweet lookin bikes! ... always have been IMHO.
  15. This 2nd gen is the first scoot I've ever owned that has a spin-on filter. All other bikes were of the canister type with a rubber O-ring. I've always only used grease to get them to stay in place. Coat the O-ring with it first before seating it into the groove. I would not recommend silicone because you then have the issue of cleaning that off the next time you change the filter and that can be a PITA. Back in the day when I pulled wrenches for a living and Chevvy engines used a canister oil filter (among numerous other vehicles), we did it exactly the same way....grease the O-ring first. Now, don't do like I did with a spin-on filter. First time I changed mine on this scoot, it was so tight I couldn't budge it even with a filter wrench so I drilled a large hole thru it and used a prybar. Later, when I was emptying the drain bucket, I found all these "metal filings" and freaked coz I'd forgotten about the drilling and thought they came out of the engine!! :rotf:
  16. Not exactly true (assuming this qualifies as being "built over water") King Pacific Lodge, British Columbia, Canada Built atop a floating barge, King Pacific Lodge enables guests to experience pristine wilderness without sacrificing five-star comfort. The hotel is accessed via a floatplane, and is towed in to Princess Royal Island from May to October.
  17. ... I won't even ask why you'd think of THAT!

  23. Just wanted to share our 3 day weekend trip (Aug 1 - 3) with ya'll. We left Vancouver around 7:45 AM headed for the Langdale ferry leaving Horseshoe Bay @ 9AM. Being that it was a long weekend, the linup for the ferrys was extremely long but around here, if you're on a scoot, you go past all the cars, campers, motorhomes, etc and get right down front. It's a "first on - first off" for bikers. Met another couple riding an '07 RSMV from Kamloops doing the same trip. The "trip" takes us up the "Sunshine Coast" via 2 ferry rides to Powell River, across the straight on another ferry to Comox, south down Vancouver island via the "old" coast highway to Victoria and from there back to Vancouver. We took a side trip to Saltspring Island to visit with Sailor and his wife. Those not familiar with this route can google it and take a look ... it's one of the best 2 or 3 (or more) days bike trips around here. Lots to see and do and the scenery is amazing. A word of warning tho... make hotel/motel reservations on a long weekend or you may just find yourself riding a lot further than expected (don't ask how I know this LOL). We hooked up with Sailor mid-afternoon Sunday and after a short rest and a drink or 3 at his place, Nina & I headed down to the lake for a refreshing swim (the lake is just down the hill from Sailor's house). Then it was back to his place for more R&R, drinks, story telling, jokes and so on ending with a feast of BBQ ribs, salads, and an amazing chocolate raspberry "OMG this is so good" dessert. (it was raspberry, wasn't it? ... I think I was slightly "overserved" by that time LOL) What a host/hostess he and his wife Janet are! I just can't say enuf good words about them ... truly awesome "real" people! Monday we headed off the island to ride out to Sooke and hook up with my nephew who was out fishing with his daughter and her boyfriend. While at it they set a crab trap and got a good mealful. Plans are to go over there for the long weekend in Sept for more fishing and partying. My nephew is sure in his glory with his new, all aluminum fishing boat. A few pics for ya'll to check out here.... enjoy! http://s393.photobucket.com/albums/pp16/SilvrT/Aug2009LongWeekend/?albumview=slideshow Hope you can access these...
  24. I have a very hard time refusing to lend things to my kids .... NOBODY else. For quite a while I failed to lay down the ground rules to them... once I did, I got stuff back... but time passes and somehow the rules get forgotten ... then I have to impose them again BUT, that surely doesn't always ensure that what got lost when the rules were forgotten will get returned. For some strange reason, the kids (and they are all grown) seem to adopt this mentality of "what belongs to mommy and daddy will eventually belong to me so I guess I can keep it indefinately" LOL
  25. Not only do I hate losing tools (generally by misplacing them) but I hate it even more when I lend a tool (or anything for that matter) and that person looses them (or fails to return them) GGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
