Grounding Passing Lamps
SilvrT replied to LilBeaver's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Why not just run a good sized (say 16 or 14 gauge) wire from the battery negative post to a "block" inside the fairing that has a threaded post on it. Then, all things you add that need grounding can be connected to that. -
Just a thought comes to mind... a person's overall height is not necessarilly an accurate "gauge" but rather, their torso height... the height from the bottom of their butt to the top of their head when sitting would be a better comparative method because many folks of the same height will have differing leg and torso lengths and that's what is more applicable for this purpose.

Grounding Passing Lamps

wwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy over my head! I also used the tube frame inside the fairing for a grounding point for my little "running" lights as well as my gauges and I'll use that same ground for anything else I hookup on the front. -
Cool... first place I looked was here... http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showcat.php/cat/11 Then I looked here... Goes to show ya how my mind works! LOL Thanks for posting the thread link.... it does make it a lot easier for SLACKERS LIKE ME! :rasberry: :rotf:

Could you not ask the folks at Showchrome which method they use for that measurement? As for myself, I cut my own down. Basically, I sat on the seat as tho I was riding and fixated at a point on the w/s where I figgured I wanted it and marked a dot. I then made a template from a filefolder to get the angles. Dropped that down to the dot I marked and drew a line from the template. (a bit more involved than just that but...follow that video) The trick was to not cut it too low the first time...then, if it's still too high, ya can do it over.

Great... can we start with the "smart remarks" now??? ....make sure the vent isn't clogged so that any buildup of gasses can pass from your rearend.- 10 replies

Motorkote comments and tracking??
SilvrT replied to Judes Dude's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Got the MotorKote in...drove about 15 miles ... seems a bit better... maybe too early to tell. Wasn't able to get it beyond 4th...rush hour traffic too slow. ... mostly 3rd. 2nd and 3rd don't seem to sound much different. Will wait until this weekend when I can take it for a good ride of a couple hundred miles. -
cool .... remember years ago the product MacTac ... just about any pattern in a stick-on roll .... I think I wood-grained everything in those days! LOL

Dipstick for Rearend
SilvrT replied to Sheradan's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I don't recall having to use a dipstick on my rearend .... in fact, I don't recall ever having a dipstick for or in my rearend... I think ya check it with any old "rear end dipstick" aka a piece of wood and the level should be about 1 inch down from the top (izzat about right boyz?)- 10 replies

No problemo... bring me your scoot.... :rasberry: -
The "bike" mfg's are not in the lubrication business...if they were, we would not have the plethora of over-the-counter "additives" that we do. And I'm not just talking about oil additives.... do you or did you ever put SeaFoam in your gas? (not "you" Curtis ... "you" anyone)
-
I would suggest that BOTH numbers are important. For the most part, 10w30 or 10w40 is fine just about anywhere, anytime with a couple exceptions... If you live in the north (Canada) and you ride in the winter, use something that starts with 5 If you live in the south (Texas) and you ride in the summer, use something that ends with 50. Simple.

Motorkote comments and tracking??

So.... who's gonna be the "brave one" and tear their engine apart to see what it looks like after having MotorKote in it for a couple thousand miles??? :scratchchin: (not me!) -
Seems most of you changed your oil at the same time you added the MotorKote (is that correct)??? My oil is not due to be changed...it's synthetic....and I don't want to fork out the bucks to change it just yet. Has anyone added the MotorKote to the oil that's in the bike without changing it? Would this be ok to do or not recommended??

Here's a couple of REAL bikes... note: they're both BLACK!!
