  1. could it be a rush of air when the fan comes on?
  2. Thinking back to when I test rode my '87 before I bought it... Overall looks ... was it dingy or clean...was the chrome in good condition ... engine guards all corroded or crappy looking ... condition of paint, visible signs of cracks or broken plastic, etc The ride ... did it feel solid or loose... unusual or concerning sounds from engine or trans...did it shift smoothly... did it run smoothly...braking and condition of them Electrical, etc... did everything work. One thing I knew at the time was that the trunk base was cracked and repaired. There was a lot of "rattling" coming from the fairing when going over bumps. I found out later that some of the inner fairing plastic pieces were very loose and some of the various tabs were broken. I didn't see it at the time but both bags had cracks in them. ABS stuff can easilly be fixed.... mechanical must be solid... electrical, depending on what it is can also easilly be fixed. Thankfully, I got a solid bike with the exception of the ABS which I later fixed and repainted.
  3. I've had an '85 and then an '87 ... loved both bikes but I wanted something new or almost new so I got my '06 RSMV. LOVE the bike! Love the looks, love the ride, love the lack of all that ABS...so much easier to work on. Wife loves it better too. The Whine and engine sounds are annoying but livable. I found that I don't ride it as aggressively as either of my 1st gen's nor does it have the "OOOMPH" that they did but it's quick enuf! LOVE the BLACK but a real PITA to keep clean. Go for it! Ride before you buy.
  4. Funny thing about all this is, it's essentially the same engine as in the 1st gen MKII. My '87 engine was TONs quieter and NO WHINE. Yamaha must have changed engine parts suppliers somewhere between the end if the 1st gen and the beginning of the 2nd gen. And now, there's even one more whine .... me whining about this!!
  5. I did get an opportunity yesterday to ride a fellow member's 1999 RSV and all I can say is, I'm happy my whine isn't like his. He tried mine out to see if he would like the RK's so maybe once he installs them, the whine will be less noticable.
  6. nice bike but since when does a cat require a key??? 1972 bike
  7. It may for some but did absolutely nothing for me...just an FYI for those who have read all the rave reviews and are expecting good things.
  8. izzat the one that is standing out "like a sore thumb" ???
  9. get some anti-squeal brake lube and put it between the pads and the caliper ... that is most likely what is causing it. The stuff comes in a small tube. Apply it to the points that rub together between the pad and the caliper.
  10. Crap!!!... now I'LL be looking to see if mine points to the right!
  11. get him to throw them in and then sell the fishtails...you might want the w/s
  12. Really sounds to me like the forks are twisted somehow. Without re-reading all your info, is the top triple on the right further off than the bottom on the right (or left). Thinking it thru if the top is off less than the bottom (right side) then the forks are twisted (not necessarilly bent)and that would explain everything you see (bars, fairing, etc) to appear to point to the right (I think...)
  13. IMHO there is no comparison to the others you've had. You'll LOVE this bike WAY BETTER! (I tried to come up with some real good constructive feedback...that's the best I can do) But, if at all possible, you should RIDE before you BUY
  14. I know this has no bearing on what you're describing (maybe it might) but... for a long time I thought my bike was pulling to the left. I could feel it in the handlebars and when I took my hands off, it would veer to the left. Dealer said nothing wrong.... another member suggested I was sitting off-centre and my weight was causing it.... well at first I chuckled at that but then I tried adjusting my position... like no more than an inch and voila` ... no more pull to the left. I was amazed that this would make so much of a difference....it's probably due to the way the bike's centre of gravity and top heaviness is...I'd never experienced that on other bikes.
  15. I used a file to smooth mine .... had several comments that it looks "factory".
  16. Look at it this way... you've just become a magician ... you can cut a windshield without cutting it LOL
  17. Have you had this bike since new? If not, has it been in a collision that might have caused the forks to be bent? (just a thought)
  18. Probably the switch at the kickstand needs to be cleaned up.???
  19. I stand corrected... the blade wasn't as small as I thought ... but it is a "fine cut" blade.
  20. I'd say you run the saw too high speed and moved too slow. Not sure what kind of blade you used but mine was a very small blade with lots of teeth for very fine cutting. Been a while since I did mine but I'm pretty sure I ran it about 1/2 speed and I moved the saw forward as quick as I could. Never had any of the "melting" issues you mention. Main thing is tho...that you "got 'er done".
  21. do you have the box that your computer came in?? .......
  22. Been a long time since I messed with a water heater but... seems to me they have a thermostat don't they? Maybe it's faulty?
  23. as long as I don't have to wear that danged DUNCE hat again... OK
  24. so.... you're saying all we have to do is CLICK the LINK that is in our EMAIL message... right?? (just razzin ya but I get the message...)
  25. This gives me an idea.... maybe everyone who has the appropriate technology should make a vid or do a sound recording at least (without the tunes playin) so that we can all hear what everybody else's "whine" sounds like. The one on your bike doesn't seem all that bad at all.
