  1. Changing it from an '87 to an '06
  2. Good point ... thanks. I will be doing them for sure this winter even tho I'm probably about 4k shy of 16. In fact, I will be doing a lot of preventative maintenance this winter whether it's due or not...and why not...it's a good way to spend those cold, wet days, a good way to really apply the great advice and articles here, and an excellent way to reduce possible downtime due to failure when riding season comes.
  3. Considering your response here Freebird, what is your take (or anyone's) on doing them at the 16k interval versus holding off for maybe the 32k mark (or somewhere in between). 16k just doesn't seem to be enuf of a time frame of riding to cause them to start wearing, or for that matter, for the "limited factory grease" to become so miniscule that it's not doing anything anymore ... I mean, they're not like a wheel bearing where they're spinning at a high speed. (just curious about this)
  4. That's it... bigger headers? What advantage is that? (other than appearance)?
  5. Boomer... are you saying you've spent a fortune fixing your wife only to find out she's not broke??
  6. huh??? I thought your name was Lutz ... not Klutz ... or is that your "unspoken" nickname?
  7. My '87 had a Vmax rear pumpkin ... that sukkah was quick... I liked it... might even put one on my '06 some day .... if nothing else it will keep me further out of the whine rpm range LOL
  8. yup... every new version of windows states the same thing...yet it never is unless you go out and buy 2-3 times the machine you have. They're all in cahoots methinks and we fall for it (or are forced into it).
  9. Curious to know what advantage it is having a full Bub exhaust ... anyone?
  10. As many of you know, I'm a computer tech....been in the biz for 22 years and last night and this morning have been the worst experience I've ever had ... thought I'd share it coz no matter how bad something is... there's bound to be humour in it. Sunday my son brings his computer over to me to fix. It boots up with the "Blue Screen of Death" with the message UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME. No biggie...been there, done that and I had it fixed in 20 minutes. Last night I planned to take it over to his house... me and Nina would go for a ride on the scoot. I set the computer on the trunk rack...looks pretty stable... then walked away to grab some bungee cords and......OMG!!! it's sliding off!!! and before I could do anything it crashed to the floor breaking the case open, plastic front panel smashed to pieces... OH NO!!!... Take it upstairs and plug it all in.... nothing! ... nada... zip ... it has power but nothing comes up on the monitor..nothing at all. Neither the monitor light or the CPU light turn green like they normally do and the hard drive just clicks once but doesn't spin up. No bout a doubt it...the motherboard is shot! Ok, so I bring his hard drive in to work this morning to test it out on one of the PC's here... I open up one of the computers here and unplug the hard drive...then plug the hard drive from my son's machine in and set the hard drive on top of the corner of the open CPU box.. then I reach back to plug the power cord in and bump the hard drive, knocking it off and onto the motherboard. (&^$#@!!!&*... and more *&!!!@##) So I pick it up and set it back on the edge and power up the computer... nothing...nada ... no workie ... just like my son's. Ok, so I plug the hard drive back in that was in the system to begin with... same thing... nothing... Crap!!... so I open up another computer (both were working before I started this) and take the hard drive out of it and plug it into the first machine...same thing... nothing. I then test all the hard drives (including my son's) in the second machine and all are working. So, it looks like I've CRASHED 2 computers in the last 18 hours!! .... WHAT NEXT??? WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH :crying: Unfortunately, the PC at work is now off warranty to boot! Oh well, it's good for parts and at least my son's hard drive is still working so he hasn't lost everything.
  11. When I had my '87 I sat here and watched while others scored great deals on immaculate scoots ... I couldn't take it anymore ... I was sooo envious! and so I made the plunge and scored a great deal on my '06 Midnight. Now I sit here and see what a great deal you got on such a great looking ride and dang ... I'm envious again! Congrats!
  12. yup ... it's where the Kootenays are.... and, they are also as far over as what is known as South East British Columbia .... People think Texas is BIG... BC is way bigger
  13. heck... I thought EVERYONE knew where that is... only the BEST motorcycling area in all of North America! Located in South Central British Columbia, Canada ... eh http://www.kootenaysbc.com/
  14. I vote for friesman1 (Brian) ... he and a couple others did a great job organizing Kruisin the Kootenays! And on that note... I suggest that as a place (yes, I know it's far for many but it's sure close for me! ).
  15. I've not even looked at my shifter linkage so no idea if it's the same as my 1st gen's (I think it is) but... I've found that if the adjuster is out of whack it will affect shifting.
  16. Both my '85 and my '87 temp gauges ran close to the red most of the time and according to what I've read about this...it's quite normal so if someone's gauge is reading in the middle or, like your's, maybe the gauge is whacky?
  17. Thanks!
  18. That "may be true"; however they are FAR BETTER at taking a person's hard earned money!
  19. Chuck... man your situation really sucks ... I feel for your dilemma. Having said that, does one not release a shop from such liability when a work order is signed? Wouldn't a person's insurance cover such a thing...after all, it is theft, regardless of how and where.
  20. I really don't think re-jetting will do anything .... but plugging the AIS (I think that is the acronym for it) might.... do a search...I've read several posts about this. I have the RK's on mine with the baffles removed (almost like straight pipes) and I get a lot of popping on decel too. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=39167&highlight=plugging+ais http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=39124&highlight=plugging+ais http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=39089&highlight=plugging+ais these might help
  21. aka anti-squeal .... as I mentioned earlier. I had similar problems with my front brakes almost since new (bike only had 1300 kilometers when I bought it). I applied the grease (anti-squeal) between the pads and the caliper (piston area) and it went away immediately.
  22. What do you mean by "full exhaust"??? can you be more specific? Most exhaust mods don't require re-jetting (that I know of).
  23. ok so if you figgure it might be an exhaust leak, wouldn't you be able to hear it? very puzzling!
  24. glad to hear Stud is there and hope he gets his scoot back on the road quick. Hey, what is it with us Canucks when we head south of the border for a rally and we break down??
