17th confirmed bird strike of the year
SilvrT replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
:thumbsup2: :thumbsup2: and just how many hours out of your work day did THAT take? -
I remember a thread about this quite a long time ago... like a couple years. Seems the general consensus was that even the supposed best gauge was not necessarilly "accurate" when tested against another similar one. I use a dial gauge....the kind that ya have to push a little button to release the air... dunno if it's right or wrong but I've used it for years. Checked it against a couple other different gauges, one brand new and none gave the same reading although they were close.

For me, the older I get, the warmer and nicer the weather has to be .. I generally look for temps to be about 10 celcius (appx 50f) or better. Can't stand cold no more.

I dunno how long it takes to ship .... I hope not too long as there's probably not going to be many more riding days left before my insurance is ended for the winter (Oct 17th). At least there's always a "day permit" if we still get some nice days after that. I dunno why I waited this long!

is there anything about this that relates to "picking up chicks when you got a bike"?? (methinks yer confused and are getting the wrong kinda "birds") -
A little bit of "Photo-fixing" ...

What I did for my Sirius XM radio was remove the fairing and connect a wire directly to that power source to a similar adapter. I then plugged in the Sirius power convertor and feed it out and up the handlebar. The Sirius convertor wouldn't stay in the stock power outlet...vibration kept knocking it out.

Motorkote comments and tracking??
SilvrT replied to Judes Dude's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
First testing of Motorkote ... I added it to the existing oil which was Mobil 1 synthetic 10w40 ... I did not feel there was any improvement. Saturday I dropped the oil & filter and put in Castrol 10w40 (non synthetic) 10w40 and added 8 oz of Motorkote. Oil level at the 1/2 way mark on the sight glass. On a scale of 1-10 (1=no change, 10=dramatic change) I will give it a 3 ... maybe even a 3.5 rating. It seems that either the fresh oil helped and/or dropping the synthetic. The whine is definately less and doesn't seem to be quite as loud. Sure love those drilled out RK's -
ya... when I first found it, I stuck my cig in it and......NOTHING!! (piece-a-crap!) LOL

DITTO ... think I'll save my holiday time for Western rallys and split it up a bit.

if you're riding a 2nd gen (1999-2010) it's on the inner left side of the fairing just above the left lower. Get down thar and look and feel... you'll find it

As for "summer" being over....it's just the date. Weather around here certainly doesn't recognize it... sunny and warm...might even break some records. All in all, this spring/summer/ and now fall has been one of the best I've experienced as far as weather goes for many, many years. It's been long overdue.

Before I bought my '06 I thought about buying a Valk Interstate. Saw a couple really nice ones....really like the green and cream but, a 2001 Valk for 13grand ... wow ... couldn't justify it. So, I went for the '06 midnight ... couldn't have made a better choice!

ok, I think I missed something... where is Potato Creek?

hmmmmmm.... not a bad idea I might test that method out but forming a new habit may take some time. I just hope we don't get confused in the process and wind up doing what you did. My normal routine is 1. stop the bike 2. plant both feet 3. let the wife off 4. turn off the key to stop the motor 5. put the sidestand down
-
BUMMER! ... dang that must be embarassing! Curious about "putting sidestand down" before your wife gets off. Do you set the bike on the sidestand and then she gets off or do you just hold the bike upright while she gets off and if so, why put down the sidestand before she gets off...??? This is a different method than I do so just curious.

The best place for the oil level is at the middle of the sight glass. (according to all that I've heard and read) :rotf:

I've got the Stratus 5 on mine. Comes with a "car kit" and has mounting brackets that hook into the dash vents...works great on the speaker grille...I just zap-tied it to ensure it didn't vibrate off. Works great!

Overall height is not a reliable "guide" .... what's your inseam size is. You could be one of those guys with short, stubby little legs and an extra long torso with long arms .... kinda like a chimpanzee yanno.... :rotf:

I noticed his odo reading stated kilometers ... so I dropped him a Q about it.

I'd like to buy another 1st gen and paint it ...again ... I'd love to experiment with House of Colors ... painting vehicles is/was a passion and specifically I enjoyed doing custom work. Ahhh but if I only had the time, the bucks, and the shop.... Waiting to see your end result... should look awesome!

That's how I did mine.
