    Insurance

I've rarely had collision insurance on a vehicle...ever. About the only time(s) were when the vehicle was financed and the bank had a lien on it and forced me to have collision coverage. Collision coverage only protects you against yourself. You have an accident and it's wholly or partly your fault, it covers your damages. If it's totally another person's fault, then it doesn't matter if you have collision insurance or not because the other person's insurance company has to pay for your damages. Since this bike is financed and the fact that even a small accident can rack up big bucks in repairs and it doesn't take a lot to write it off, I certainly don't want to take any chances. I'd hate to crash the bike, have it written off and still have to pay the bank. Once it's fully paid for, then I'll be dropping the collision coverage. I used to manage car rental operations years ago. We were always "self insured" meaning we carried a large liability policy but nothing else. On a fleet of 100 vehicles, we saved enough money from what the premiums would have been to afford two writeoffs a year. If I personally had saved the money I didn't pay out in premiums for collision over the years, I could afford to not carry collision on this scoot today....and then some...maybe even retire LOL

My discount is 43% but it doesn't apply to all parts. FYI, my insurance runs out Oct 17th and I don't renew until mid April...only insure for 6 months. Currently I pay $192/month... when I renew in April it will be $179 so it has gone down a bit. If I remember correctly, storage insurance is about 50 bucks ... PER MONTH! geeeesh!

    Insurance

I know there are several threads on this but just wanted all you folks down south and those here in Canada that still have private insurance to feel good about your insurance rates. I just got my renewal notice for the scoot... 1 million 3rd party liability Underinsured motorist protection $1,000 collision deductible $500 comprehensive deductible Vehicle licence fee Total for one year = $2,071 (this has gone down since last time) Now here's the kicker... I have a clean driving/insurance record which means I get a whopping discount. If I did not, and if I had to pay the full rate, I'd be paying..... $4,162.00 ya'll feelin better???
  6. LOOOOKINGOOOODDDD :thumbsup2:
  7. ooopsie ... guess I didn't "read" it right (not sitting out in the sun) ... dang these cheapo readin glasses anyhoo!!
  8. Nina & I are wishing all the best for you and your's Don. Hang in thar! -Rick
  9. If the air temp is above 90f and sun shining, I'd suggest anything that is metal would feel that way. Ever set your bare arm out the window of your car only to scream and jump when you realized how hot the metal is? oowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww....
  10. :rotf: for some reason the word "blond" comes to mind here...
  11. You have a twisted mind.... mine went to "shindig" aka "hoe down" :rotf: and if you believe that... hey, I got some oceanfront property in Saskatchewan for sale if yer interested.... LOL
  12. Same for me but when I first got my '06, I only did toe shifts...had no problems but trained myself to do the heel also... now it's "natural". I also found that when I mounted my highway pegs, they interfered with up shifting using toe only so, was sorta forced to learn to use the heel.
  13. HEY!! watch out for this guy... he's a cannibal !! :rotf: we do a lotta ribbin 'round here
  14. I intend to do that and that will be this winter when I get rid of the stockers and put on Avon's .... can hardly wait to see how she feels after that and especially with a 130 front.
  15. These days is generally cool overnight (around 10 celcius) so definately I have to choke mine although I've noticed on those RARE HOT DAYS (20 celcius or better overnight) that I don't need the choke so ambient temp has a lot to do with it. I ride mine weekends only with the odd time during the week for evening ride.
  16. Unfortunately, that's about where the "whine" is at it's worst ... I try and stay away from that by being in a gear that produces a higher rpm. Exception is 5th.
  17. There's so many variations .... must be an individual bike thing... just like the whine LOL ... main thing is that, as stated, when you crack the throttle it doesn't crap out / cough / hesitate ...once that's ok basically yer good to go. Mine seems to take 2 or 3 min.
  18. and the pumpkin and lean angle are easier? I have to lay on the floor just to check the danged thang! On my '87 I didn't have an angled one and I checked and filled it from the right side as that always seemed the easiest....even when on the centre stand. hmmmmmm... could it have anything to do with being right-handed I wonder?
  19. One of the things I like about the RSV is that it is not only a long distance tourer but a person can still do some "bar-hopping" on it .... rip around the city some ... short runs back and forth to work or whatever .... I don't think a GW lends itself well to that and that is why it's probably a better bike for LD touring only. RSV = great all-around bike oops... almost forgot ... welcome aboard!
  20. All of this "tire pressure gauge" stuff brings to mind a "why'd they do that" .... Why did Yamaha put a 90 degree valve stem on the rear tire and then ANGLE IT TOWARDS THE LEFT SIDE??? (or is it just mine that's like this?) duh!
  21. Is there a tech article on this showing what is done? .... and the reasoning?
  22. My thoughts exactly. See my other post on choke use thread... [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41155]Using the choke - VentureRider.Org[/ame]
  23. are you sure it's a valve that's ticking... it could be the cam chain adjuster. From what I understand of it, it works on a hydraulic "valve". Mine has been doing this since I got it with 1300 km on it. Even adding Motorkote doesn't change that although the ticking seems to go away quicker now.
  24. When the bike is cold, I pull the choke out about half way ... start the bike, wait about 30 seconds and then push it in to the point that the rpm's drop to just above idle (appx 1000-1200 rpm) ... then I let it warm up for maybe 2 or 3 min, then I push the choke off.
  25. :thumbsup2: thanks for the laff !
